Alright I have finally started a story and got the title for the game.
But I wanted to let you guys and Val know how it is going.
First of all the title is
Raging Wilds
Introduction when you first enter the game:
The West was carved from the sweat and blood of the many men of the time. These men tilled the land, mined the mountains, fished the waters and hunted the plains to make their way. More than just these good people roamed the West however. Indians and criminals, all who wished to take for their own personal gain, laid wait in the wilds. However, no matter how much violence and crime ensued, there was good to conquer. Stories have been written about the most famous cowboys such as Roy Rodgers, Buffalo Bill and Adam Cartwright...
...Here is a story about one cowboy you may not know...
Your character can be either a male or a female. It is your preference. Certain options will change depending on the sex of your character. But the background is the same with a small twist as bakc in the day criminals and indians did not kill women or children. There is a special character you can get once you beat the game, as well as different costumes.
You do have the option to change the name of the character
The male character's name is
Roy O'Connell
(http://i42.tinypic.com/ddj4w8.gif)
Age:26
Hometown: Dover,Delaware
Left for the West on August 21, 1849
Background: Came from Delaware two days after the East coast found out about the gold rush. He left from Missouri, the most common starting point for 49ers, using the California Trail to travel to California. There were many hardships along the way such as famine, ox dying, Indian raids. The hardest to take was losing his sister in a raid from Indians. They took her away from him and he has yet to see her. He hopes to find her one day if he can. After her capture he rode alone along the trail staying away from others. Roy has a soft spot for children.
The female character's name is
Lisa O'Connell
(charaset coming soon)
Age:20
Hometown: Dover,Delaware
Left for the West on August 21, 1849
Background: Came from Delaware two days after the East coast found out about the gold rush withher brother. She left from Missouri, the most common starting point for 49ers, using the California Trail to travel to California. There were many hardships along the way such as famine, ox dying, Indian raids. The hardest to take was losing her brother in a raid from Indians. They killed him in a brutal skirmish. She vows to get the Indians back. After the raid she rode alone being very quiet. She has a major dislike for any Indians.
The game takes place in El Dorado County
EDIT: My bad there is a dotted line going from Shingle Springs to Coloma it is really supposed to be a dash-dot line like the other one before it

I will add more when I get more done. I'll have a list of systems up soon. Just tell me what you guys think
-
Oh yeah, man. I've always wanted to make a western game. The farthest I ever got was this one time collabing with ZKX. Had some isometric graphics laid out, some music, and a whole story. Not much past that.
-
I've been making some tiles for the game, and gathering some. Not very many western chipsets out there
-
I'd love to see a Western game. I say go for it.
-
Well, if you need any help with story or original graphics or music and such, let me know. I'm a softy for westerns.
-
Alright man, I'll look ya up when I need something. Thanks for offereing help.
-
western style game in like cowboy's ?
if so pm me when you can
i help you out big time
as i got native land's on the go may be
you can use some of the chips
i got lots of maps made but no story line
made as keep getting new story's but don't
know where to put it all in the story line
fish was saying he like to do a native Indian game
but he got warp and a lot more thing's on the go
i may make some time out on the Japanese game's
to help you out if you say you need my help or not
-
Go for it, it could prove to be interesting.
-
I could help. I'm currently working on my own games, and need some time off from that. If you could tell me the style of charsets, i could help there.
-
Western, eh? You're done imposin' some limitations there, boy. There's not much chance for monsters, or the equivalent mutants/aliens/robots you'd find in a sci-fi game. If you're making it realistic, o' course. I personally am not much of a fan of crossover Western games, like robot cowboys, which I frankly find ridiculously oxymoronic, but something like giant sand worms could be interesting.
-
Nothing person or anything i just never like Western things but its creative.
-
Nothing person or anything i just never like Western things but its creative.
...what?
No matter how I change that sentence, it still doesn't make sense
-
Clue! Person = personal

Ah...much better

Yeah, I'd say go for it.
It is quite the stereotype. I'd like to see more gun-wielding female protagonists. My main character uses a watch as his weapon.
-
Yeah, there will be guns, and some swords( it is based after civil war so swords are used among high ranking officers) Not sure about character base yet, if it will be one party or four.
I'm thinking more so one, and you can choose your sex.
Or have two main characters, one male one female but two seperate stories that intertwine ever so often.
-
I updated the first post
-
Ooh, this looks exciting. I like how there's potential for character development. How about bayonets as weapons? Pretty sure they were all the rage in the Civil War.
Good finds on the chipsets, Lonewolf.
-
Yeah bayonets wil be used. I have actually been researching for like a week on old towns and exact dates of things. All the towns are real ghost towns, or were stettlements. I'm gonna try and have a date and month system. That what like on May 30th you will here about Minnesota(i think can't remember right now) becoming a state and such.
But it is all still up in the air.
-
update i pmed you some time a go
i am hoping to get all the my older charasets remade with the help of thewerewolf
but it may be some time i also be making up some chipsets when i get some free time
i pm you when i get around getting them all made
-
Here it the map of the world. Not literally the in game map. I used an El Dorado County map and edited it to look like this The dotted line is the optional quest path for each character. You only have two times to access it. Once before you enter Hangtown, in which you preceed to Chili Bar, Chicken Flat, then Bamom. And Once after you leave Hangtown. The other line is the actual story line. I wanna add this in the game as a map(on paper) but not sure how to get it look like it is old paper and was folded up. I'll try it on my own and see what I get.
EDIT: My bad there is a dotted line going from Shingle Springs to Coloma it is really supposed to be a dash-dot line like the other one before it

Hey swords are more conveniet. This reminds me of a conversaiton me and my brother had about Zombies and weapon of choice if there were Zombies everywhere he chose a Katana unlike a gun Katana's never run out of ammo and they are fast sharp very good to decapitate.
-
Yes...but if you bring a sword to a gunfight, you're going to lose your head and possibly some other body parts
Depending on the size of the gun

The tanto is much better then either of those. Just commit seppuku and they're gone.

Lol thay wasn't the point.
I didnt read the whole thing but I am against killing indians. I mean, you US people prolly know more about it than I do but I am pretty sure that the whole thing about evil indians and stuff is just an excuse to kill them and stealing their lands. From what I heard, that buffalo bill guy, all he did was mass murder all the buffalos so the indians didnt have anything to eat. What I heard at least.
You U.S. people?
I agree about classifying the Indians as evil isn't right but since he making a western rpg and you play a "cowboy" the Indians would be the villians.
Some Indians tribes were extremely violent and even commit cannibalism.
Though I think Gun did it well Gun showed some Indians in a bad and good light, in fact your character is half Native American and half cacusian but if you want to get technical should be we be saying Native American instead of Indian?
Also dude its a game we have games attacking religion this isn't the first western game or the first game to show Cowboys against Indians.
-
Its not really saying all Indians and bad and all Cowboys are good. Its just depicting what a Western game did and that there was war between Cowboys and Indians.
I don't know him but he may not even be a U.S. Citizen.
Some of the tribes were just extremely violent even if people weren't trying to kill them and some were peaceful.
You're kind of taking it like he is saying every Native America/Indian in the game is evil and is going to try to kill you while I don't know if he is going to do that or not for all we know it could be balanced.
Vaarwel.
-
I'm guessing you didn't like Resident Evil 4 or 5 because of the racist themes, right lucas_irineu? (And whoever says RE4 isn't racist, well, I have a few spanish people you should be talking to and see how they like their race being the main antagonist for the game)
It's a game, and you are really taking it far too seriously.
Yes, the blight about the native americans having their land taken from them is sorrowful, not all native americans are evil, they were actually the ones who helped us get settled, and etc.
HOWEVER, this is a video game. Coreystranick is doing research of the time period he is making the game in, and I am SURE he will find, that while native americans often were peaceful and discriminated against, a good deal of them had no problem attacked a band of wagons and lopping off the tops of our ****ing heads.
I'm sure he's going to include native american protagonists to an extent, but seriously, get over it. If you're not going to be one of the people to play his game because of the agony of the native americans being enemies, then he can add me to the list of people who will play it because he is actually going to accurately depict the native american race in this game, and I think it'd be a nice change of pace from what we see in RPGs today.
I mean, seriously, what else other than wild animals and bandits can he include in the damn thing? Robotic bipeds from the planet Goosen? Get over it.
-
I didn't complain about the characters' antagonism and dislike for the Indians, because I saw it as a character flaw that would eventually fade as they come to see them as human.
I dunno, that's just what I got from it.
-
Wow, alot of people commented while my computer was off. Alright yes I am showing Indians (at this point in time they weren't Native Americans)as good and evil. Also Val was right about the character. But ultimately the choice is yours, you will be able to choose how you act when you go to the Indian village
Oh and I am american

I was right :)
@Dragoon de Sol i'm surprised you didn't use RE5 as a example because it caused a big uproar.
The one thing I hate is people claiming a game is racist just because its set in a diffrent time or place of the World so they use the people in that part of the World. Caucasian people are killed all the time in games but as soon as its a diffrent race its like **** hits the fan.
Wheres the eqaulity in that? It is just ridiculous. This is last post i'l make in this topic about this subject though because I don't want your topic to get away from your game.
-
It kinda is talking about my game haha. But yeah this topic is pretty much over now I understand the concerns of the few who have them and everyone else's point of view. The only person who I really hope not to offend is lonewolf as he is actually native american

Game looks good, brah.
-
Great one, Red.
Anyway. RE is not racist. It about a village with crazy cult people. It just happens to be on Spain.
And this is the internet. Stop taking stuff so damn serious.
I was just telling corey that he shouldnt be killing too many indians. He listened to me. And thats it, I dont know why the hell Nandez is pissed off.
I'm not pissed at anything i've been calm this whole time.
I'm a passive person.
I dislike you personally but I wasn't taking anything personnel from this or getting mad.
When exactly did I get pissed off? I never did Boerenlul.
Tabee.
-
Re4&5 was about infected people. Viruses.
It's not about the nationality of the people. It's like that old alien movie where everyone in town except the protagonist had these red X's in their necks, like a mark for the people under the influence of the aliens.
But RE4&5 are about parasites instead of aliens. And I gotta say, It was a nice breeze when you finally had the chance to hear some other language than English and Japanese in games. So sick of hearing thinfs like "He's over there" "I'll get you!" "Gajin!!!!!" or ****.
Anyway.
On the topic of the game.
Just add some friendly native people and no one will be all "omg racist! my grandfather was a shaman!"
-
native American Indians extremely violent ?
way back they was extremely violent it was over land
if you what to get in to it but that's the passed history
most of my tribe got there land back when the land laws was look at
we only used guns as it was be killed or kill to save your tribe
most tribes was violent as they got drunk on whiskey or moonshine
but that was only when some of the white Americans pilgrims who arrived
on tribes land and made there homes on tribes hunting grounds
the white Americans had gun's to kill native American Indians
so we asked the fur trappers to trade guns and not whiskey or some food the white Americans used most tribes use the gun;s to go hunting as you can kill a beer or bear faster then a bow but the funny thing is most native American Indians had wife or husband that was a white Americans pilgrim like me and my white wife and i am native American Indian and white blood mixed as my mum was white my dad native American all over the world there is mixed wife's and husband's
its a good thing the worlds like this so i say what's the big thing if there is violent native American Indian's in the game you have not seen my native lands yet you will see at lot of scalping and see what we did with the skin when we did all the scalping so in a way you can call my greater granddads violent for doing this back in his time
any how getting back to the game
got the new natives pmed to you coreystranick
thanks to thewerewolf for his help there
-
My great grandfather was full cherokee, and yet I don't really find this all that offensive.
-
At Prpl alot of black people even some of my friends got pissed at RE5 and there were alot of things online blogs tlaking about a "Police" officer shooting black people in RE5 as being extremely racist.
:/
-
They're in Africa
There's a parasite infecting these people to make them extremely rage-ified
You have to kill them, because they're trying to kill you
How the hell is that racist?
-
Then your friends are idiots. I mean, I dont see any white people calling the first RE games racist because you shot white zombies.
It's a scary thing but I have to agree with Lucy.
First games took place in america: you shoot american zombies.
4th game takes place in spain: you shoot spanish zombies
fth game takes place in africa: you shoot african zombies as well as some people that looks like muslims as well as something that looks like a spiff-up from the RE4 ganados.
It's only logical that you shoot people belonging in their environment.
I'd say it's more racist to replace every person in the game with white americans. You go to spain: only americans there.
You go to africa: only white americans there. That would be rasist: to exclude the black/or any other origin from the game.
And also. The 2nd chapter of the game is more or less just native africans with maskas and such, grown larger and almost grey.
The last part is pretty much zombies. They might look like black people but thye are grey and have all the classic zombie features.
They're in Africa
There's a parasite infecting these people to make them extremely rage-ified
You have to kill them, because they're trying to kill you
How the hell is that racist?
This is a good point as well. In GTA SA and all the other GTAs I cn remember: you cna shoot black people without any reason.
In Re5. You can only shoot at the ones with plagas inside them.
-
1st off I already said that about the first RE games and Lucas said i got pissed off :/ *sigh*
Second I know they are stupid I was pointing out how they tohught they were racist when Prpl said they weren't yes I don't think they are either I was just making the point some people think they are because they are stupid.
-
If your afraid of controversy, then let people chose to play as Indians or Mexicans or black people. And while your at it, read up on horses and let pepole chose their mount.
-

Nah, add a friendly village of natives and everything is cool I'd say.
-
Alright alright guys. It would be cool if you started another topic on this, as I don't want my whole game thread about the controversy of racism in games. But it is a good debate
-
Too much racism talk I'd say. If you're a cowboy, your natural enemy is Indians. That's not saying Indians are evil or nothing.
-
Like Prpl said, encountering friendly natives works just fine. A Native American party member is even better.
-
Like Prpl said, encountering friendly natives works just fine. A Native American party member is even better.
But a white man travelling with an Indian is just as bad as an Indian. They shoot them natives!
And it would be kinda odd as well in a cowboy game I guess. In movies, yeah sure. They met somewhere, saved life and all that. But I'm not sure you can pull it off in a game without actually showing the event and then have some town people hostile against the guy.
-
Eh, some games have the hero traveling around with a monster or a robot. I'm sure the townsfolk can tolerate an Indian in your entourage.
There are various Indian tribes, some hostile, some not. The party member's from a friendlier one.
-

Hey, I travel around with a robot and monster. Rusty and jet XD Seriously I think Val's right here.
