Title: Democracy

What do you guys think about democracy?

It's good. What else?

Democracy is a good idea, but it shouldn't be used to undermine a good friendly dictatorship.

Dictators make good role models. People look up to a dictator, and the unsavoury members of society who think it's "hip" and "cool" to rebel against the system are prevented from ruining society for everyone. 100% of people living in a violent authoritarian dictatorship will tell you that their dictator is a good, kind person who would never have their family beaten and mauled if they spoke out against his regime. And that's a high success rate.

Please don't mock dictatorships. Think of the dictators. They're trying their best to run a country by shouting and making wild hand gestures. It takes skill to maintain a deranged eye-glimmer. How would you like it if you were a dictatorship and then democracy was all "yo dictatorship your shit is wack" and such and such? You wouldn't like that, would you? Stop snivelling, boy.

So to conclude democracy is a tosser.

I gotta agree though.

Dictators work hard for their place.
And I don't see anything wrong with that as long as they don't money-whore the country.
Military regimes are bad though.
Dictators= yay!

Dictatorships should remain dictatorships. We shouldn't try to change that. That would be like taking away God or something. Like "Nope, you can't believe in God any more. We give you science instead."

I think Charas should be a dictatorship.

I was actually joking with the pro-dictatorship thing.

I'm starting to think Prpl is more Nazi than he looks. After all, he hates black people.

Isn't it? Alex runs the country, and when he doesn't, Osmose does. He'll have your legs broke if you try to suggest change.

Dictatorships are weak. An Empire is much better, lots of positions and it's easy to get promoted to higher rank and attain glory.Oh no. I just realized who I sound like..XD

Doesn't an empire just mean a set of countries ruled by the same government? Oh my god... I finally understand the United States.

*goes and reads first page real quick like*
Alright, got it now >_>

Hmm...my views are complicated, so I'll just say that I think that government as a whole is a good idea until we get the human element in it, because humans in positions of power have a tendency to become corrupt, and will dick up the whole system

I choose to quote Pratchett in this matter.

"Vimes had once discussed the Ephebian idea of 'Democracy' with Carrot, and had been rather interested in the idea that everyone had a vote until he found out that while he, Vimes, would have a vote, there was no way in the rules that anyone could prevent Nobby Nobbs from having one as well. Vimes saw the flaw there straightaway."

The government is a necessary evil, because no system is worse than anarchy. Check out Somalia circa 1992 as an example of what happens when the government loses control. Chaos beyond chaos.

I agree that it is a necessary evil, but a true democracy, where everybody is equal to one another and nobody has any real difference in power is probably the best course in action

Won't ever exist unless the people become soulless and/or undead.

How about a vision of the future where the people are not elected, and have no representatives... only a remote that allows them to vote on action, broadcast on television?

That is a fairy tale, my friend. All men (and some women) want power and thus we can never be equal. That's like if every one had same big fancy house, it wouldn't last because somebody want to paint his house green and maybe after wards add a few rooms. Then his neighbor would want to add few on to hers so that her house wouldn't looks so small and insignificant next to his. Get it? We want to be important and powerful and when we can't have power we just do what we want anyway, but that's why the government exists in the first place isn't? So that small people like you and me can't paint our house green.

Half of my posts are withdrawn for this very reason.

Also, you'd be surprised at how many secret posts and post secrets I have. Nobody looks hard enough, so nobody seems to notice.

Which is better: direct democracy or representative democracy?

Whilst direct democracy avoids the corruption and conflict with elected leaders common to representative democracy and conflict, people are lazy and might not find time to make decisions and also encourages conflict with the citizens themselves as they have a direct say.

Then there's always "roulette democracy" which I just made up right now which is where a citizen is declared leader by ballot.
