The British National Party won 2 seats in the 2009 European Parliament Elections.
-
Yay! If I only knew what that meant.
-
I'm assuming it's a lot like the Canadian elections, meaning they vote for a person, and if the person wins they get a seat. The party with the most seats wins and takes over power of the country.
Thus, most likely 2 seats is atrocious, unless they've never got any before
-
Nope, it's about the EU parliament, not the country of England.
And the BNP sounds a lot like the "Swedish democrats".
They are nationalistic as in "We don't like people except the people who were born and raised here". Racism if you may.
Our version didn't get any seats. But the Pirate party did get 1 seat. So I guess we finally have the chance to remove Ipred and FRA.

2 Seats is unprecentedly high. The BNP have long been thought of as a fringe party, supported by too few to bother with.
Wikipedia says;
"According to its constitution, the BNP is "committed to stemming and reversing the tide of non-white immigration and to restoring, by legal changes, negotiation and consent the overwhelmingly white makeup of the British population that existed in Britain prior to 1948." The BNP also proposes "firm but voluntary incentives for immigrants and their descendants to return home."
Now, remember, that's in their words.
Of course, there is a lot of media backlash, people despairingand panicking but what worries me more is the amount of people coming out and saying "'bout time." I don't know what to think of this country anymore.

Keep in mind their first seat came from Yorkshire. Most people in Yorkshire have probably never seen a foreigner, but they've heard about them on the news. Or they have no work skills and have tried to get a manual job, but are out-competed by foreigners who are willing to work for less money. On a side note, Yorkshire's BNP representative used to be a member of the National Front. It's going to be This Is England all over again. Good going, Yorkshire.
Basically it's ridiculous. I'd imagine they got quite a lot of support from protest votes. "We don't want the Labour party in, because they abuse their civil liberties", say the intelligent people of Britain, "so to show that we're not going to stand for greedy politicians, let's vote for the Racism Party".
-
"The BNP is opposed to mixed-race relationships on the stated ground that racial differences must be preserved; it claims that when a white person produces a mixed-race child, "a white family line that stretches back into deep pre-history is destroyed." Nick Griffin stated: "… while the BNP is not racist, it must not become multi-racist either. Our fundamental determination to secure a future for white children is restated, and an area of uncertainty is addressed and a position which is both principled and politically realistic is firmly established. We don't hate anyone, especially the mixed race children who are the most tragic victims of enforced multi-racism, but that does not mean that we accept miscegenation as moral or normal. We do not and we never will"."
According to Mr. Griffin, I am a tragic victim of enforced multi-racism. Thanks Nick, I had no idea!
AT LEAST HE'S NOT BEING RACIST OR ANYTHING.

Between 1995 and 1997, Nick Griffin edited 'The Rune'. Griffin referred to the Holocaust as a "Holohoax".
In 1998 Nick Griffin said, "I am well aware that the orthodox opinion is that 6 million Jews were gassed and cremated and turned into lampshades. Orthodox opinion also also once held that the Earth was flat... I have reached the conclusion that the "extermination" tale is a mixture of Allied wartime propaganda, extremely profitable lie, and latter witch-hysteria."
Griffin wrote an article for Spearhead in June 1999 after the Admiral Duncan pub bombing. He said, "The TV footage of dozens of gay demonstrators flaunting their perversions in front of the world's journalists showed just why so many ordinary people find these creatures so repulsive."
It's also worth noting that to be considered "ethnically British" in Mr Griffin's view, you, your parents, and your grandparents must have been born in Britain - however, your grandparents are allowed to be from "a European country". Oh Mr Griffin, you silly fool. People from European countries are no more British than people from Asian countries! They are, however, white.

Well worst thing that can happen is that England turns into the new France.

What is the EU? The European Union? How does that work?

The European Parliament is pretty much a bunch of people sitting together in a huge building discussing and planning things. The people in there are representatives from each country.
And the people from the countries are part of different parties.
The people of the countries vote for the party they want to see in the EU parliament .
At least in the democratic countries.

So 2 = a win for the BNP in england?

So 2 = a win for the BNP in england?
Well, great brittain got 69 seats. 2 of those are the BNP, the parties that doesn't get enough votes can't even send people to the Parliament. So the fact that more "serious" parties are left behind and some "nationalistic" party is sent is a huge thing.
We in Sweden have 18 seats. So those 2 seats would be like 1/9 of the total representatives.
-
oh I get it
-
How many seats are there total?
-
736 I believe. Some countries have more than others.
