Title: FF card games
Post by: Hawkfrost on June 11, 2009, 08:15:47 PM
I need a tutorial on how to make card games from my new game FF: Collision. I'm thinking its gonna be tetra master from FF 9 but how do i go about making the game in the game?

You will make Triple Tiad, because it was the best, not tetra master.

Eh, i never played it, but I was addicted to triple triad so much that I cut out paper cards and thought my friends to play it. I love that game. Quick, strategical and fun.

Kinda amazing that I can't remember the triple triad.
I remember tetra master from IX because it was a part of the actual game as well.
And the rewards were nice.

only that there are elements that can effect the game too
(Literal Elements; fire, water, blizard, etc.)

Triple Triad was easier to learn, but it was also far more annoying and took less skill. In order to introduce difficulty into the game, they had to add rules like RANDOM and ALL and such. Because all the cards were so similar, they had to add elements, which were only useable when the rule ELEMENT was active, and not many NPCs played with that rule. Because all cards of the same type were exactly the same, it gave no reason to collect more of that type (except for item creation). Because no matter how many times you won with your cards your cards remained the same, it gave no reason to play more than you had to to get better cards.

Tetra Master takes more time to learn, takes more skill but has little varation from game to game. The random factor introduced are the posistion of blocked squares on the gameboard. Because all cards of the same type were generally different either in stats or corners, it gave a good reason to have multiple copies of the same card. Because winning battles with cards actually made your cards stronger (though I don't remember them ever adding corners), it gave a good reason to continue using a card and to continue playing the game. Because the actual card game had only one influence to the outside/main game, which was the namingway (except for one specific part of the plot, and even then it doesn't matter what cards you have, just if you won), it didn't really give the card game much purpose other than playing for fun.

I personally liked Tetra Master more because it was better polished and took more thinking. In my opinion Triple Triad was too easy to be skill based in the beginning, was luck based in the middle when RANDOM was introduced, and was just pitiful once you got the best cards and could just corner hog.
