Title: Jack Sparrow battle charset or animation
Post by: Vivi21 on July 25, 2009, 05:36:27 AM
Alright, this time I'll be more accurate on what I want.   I am requesting  a Jack Sparrow battle char or battle animation from Pirates of The Caribbean for my rm2k3 project.   Anything will do.   Also I need a Davy Jones monster sprite that I can use as a boss.   Thanks in advance.

There's a Jack Sparrow on TSR. I can get you a link, but you'll need some one to put it together.

I found these:

Fish was nice enough to point out my obvious misstake...

Yeah but I'd still need someone to put it together for me.   I could do it myself but heh heh um like I said I suck.

We love to help those that help themselves, vivi.  Give yourself a bit more credit.  I didn't think I could sprite either until I tried, turns out I'm not so bad at it.  Just use a little patience, and give it a shot.   Every part about learning to sprite or code, is trial and error.  If you need more help I'm sure someone can point you to a tutorial.

Bad deptth perception man.   However I see your point.   My problem is that I can't get them even and they look all glitchy in battle.   As for coding, I rock at that.   I find it's easier than scripting and most of the time it's just as good.   But yeah I see your point.   I think I can make monsters from sprites via cutting and pasting.  I'm  gonna try that and if it works I may write a tutorial for it.   I want to contribute something to this site but first I gotta see what I can make worth contributing.    As for helping those who help themselves, good response.   I hope I eventually get the hang of spriting cuz with my creativity [not trying to boast] I could make some really cool stuff and really improve my projects.

First thing you want to do is get a sprite editing program.  You CAN use mspaint but I don't recommend it.  You can try ASE (http://"http://www.aseprite.org/"), it's buggy at times but it gets the job done.  Then you want to create a blank template the appropriate size for the resource you are trying to make. 144x384 for a battler and 480x480 for a battle animation, for instance.  If you haven't done so already, I recommend getting used to using battle animations instead of normal battlers, far easier in my opinion.  The reason (I'm guessing) yours look all glitchy in battle is prolly cuz you don't have them aligned properly.  This wreaked havok on me too until I got it straightened out.  As for your depth perception, I'm blind in one eye lol.  You're drawing in 2d it shouldn't be a problem lol.

Do you know where I can get a sprite editing program for free?   And yes I do know how to use battle animation thanks to Fish and  I agree with you about them being better than normal battlers.    And yeah, it's gonna take me a while to get the hang of lining them up right..

I included a link in my last post. Here it is again ASE (http://"http://www.aseprite.org/").  Allegro is free but kinda buggy.  Once you have it it'll be easier to line it all up.  It has a grid overlay that makes it very easy.

Don't listen to them about MS Paint. Idraw3 is where it's at. (http://www.kobrasrealm.net/downloads.php?6)

idraw has a bit more stability whereas ASE is a bit buggy, as I've said, but has a few added functionalities that idraw does not, such as texturing tools and options.  Also, I must note that, I prefer the interface of ASE.  Maybe,it's because I'm more used to it but things seem easier to get to. *shrug*  If these aren't important to you then go with idraw its improved stability will probably save you a headache.  Another big plus with idraw is you can easily change the number of colors used (remember, must be 256 or less for rpg2k3).  A lot of programs, including, ASE save them as 24bpp by default (thats millions of colors), regardless of how many colors are actually used in your palette.  This requires you to open them up with another program, such as irfanview, to change this and then resave them.  Not that hard, but it's an extra step that idraw can save you from.

Oh, he who spreads the truth, which "character maker" are you referring to?  Linkage?
