Title: Street Fighter 4 is just stupidly hard.
Post by: zuhane on July 29, 2009, 06:59:33 PM
I just bought SF4 and it's absolutely awful in my opinion. I practiced for a bit
in practice mode and thought "wow, this is looking really good". The animation,
music, characters and graphics are really nice. So I started playing arcade mode on Medium and
died against the first enemy numerous times. Okay, so I turned it down to Easy and tried
again. Couldn't do the first level. Fine, let's turn it past Very Easy and down to the "Easiest" setting.

I managed to win about 6 fights after really struggling, then reached the end boss which is
physically impossible to kill. Enemies just instantly knock you to the floor the very microsecond
the round starts, then instantly grab you the second you get up or unleash an insane flurry of
moves which depletes your entire health bar.

Now, I wouldn't exactly class myself as a "bad gamer". I usually beat all my friends at Tekken,
Mortal Kombat and Smash Bros and can play them on Hard. I regularly come first place on
games like Team Fortress 2 for example.

But come on! I'm playing Easiest and there's Very Easy, Easy, Medium, Hard, Very Hard then Hardest
and I can't even beat the boss on Easiest. It's beyond challenging. I'm actually returning the game
to where I bought it from and pretending it's faulty because I'm that disappointed.

From what I've heard, either you're stupidly good at this, or godawfully bad.
No inbetween.
None.

As such, you either love it, or you hate it.

Yeah the game is impossibly hard. At least if you play above easy. Play some challenges, I learned enough from them to unlock nearly all the characters from it. (Got the last boss left)

SF4 is WAY too easy. Play SF3 if you want to see difficulty. I play SF4 on hardest difficulty just to get a challenge. Hell, SF2 is harder than this.

Speaking of infuriating fighting games, Soul Calibur 4's online is godawful. Nobody plays properly. They just choose Cervantes or Kilik and spam two moves over and over. Sod that.

I've never seriously played a Street Fighter. Ever.

Now I feel deprived.

I suggest trying out SF2 before anything else to help you unstand the basics. The Alpha is pretty good as well. SF3: Third Strike is where the challenge is, it introduces a pretty balanced new set of characters along side Ryu, Ken, Akuma and Chun-Li. In SF3, you can do something carry a parry by pressing forward at the moment your opponent does a move (try not to do it too much, only why you see a projectile coming or if the opponent strikes form above) and grants you no damage an a split second opening against your opponent.

Well, for a first SF game, I suggest you guys play SF Alpha 2 or 3. Since they're the best in the alpha series and unlike SF2 (with the exception of Super Street Fighter II Turbo) it has super moves.

Well, actually, I don't really enjoy fighting game, except for Smash Bros. since it's quite... very different.
But... maybe I will try one, since I did have some fun back then when playing the first Street Fighter.

Oh, and I've heard from everywhere that SFIV was stupidly easy by comparison. Perhaps you're just **** at it?

It's true. This is nothing compared to the others. But then again, looking at the other mainstream fighting games out there, challenge isn't exactly there in the actual game in comparison. More-so the actual players who are challenging than the game itself. Thus, like I've said before, games are getting retardedly easier than they used to be

I don't really understand. I'm not bad at fighting games. I've practiced for ages
and can beat all my friends, but the last boss on Arcade mode just won't die.
He's impossible to hit.

They also go for extreme idiotic difficulty in the final boss in final games. I think Mortal Kombat started it. Haven't played SF4, so I can't give my two cents about that.

Here's a strategy that can help.

1) Don't Jump, he'll use his Shoryuken to counter you
2) If you use someone like Sagat or someone would a charging attack that sends them leaping forward and invincable for a brief moment, use it
3) Always block at the very beginning downwards, it'll most likely be the Dhalsim stretchy arm thing
4)When he's at his ultra meter is full, don't dare leave your self open too long
5) Use a focus attack to stun him for a brief moment and unless your special or super
6) Ex-attacks are your friend, use them
7) Do not stay close to him long or he'll use that annoying grab on you
8 ) Make sure to ONLY use a shoryuken-like attack when he's close and open, it can be your saving grace when he teleports toward you
9) His Ultra is blockable and you can jump over it, if you see it coming jump toward him and unleash your fury
10) Your Ultra can save you if he executes his, non-projectile ultras will prevent you from being hit with it if you execute it before or after his
11) Remember, you can grab him too.

Other Helpful tips: Play 2 player with the computer on Normal to Hardest (choose any of them, I chose hardest because it helped me advance better; you don't HAVE to do this step, but it makes playing the easier when you have an opponent to a pattern from). It is the best training you can get. Abel is a great person to use for training. Start fighting against Ryu and switch out with another person when you've atleast won 4 matches. If you do this, it will be much easier to know how to counter Seth at any difficulty.

Another one: Remember, this is NOT Tekken or Mortal Kombat. You cannot create combo's and leave opponents helpless in a similar fashion. So, try to use your EX attacks and specials to your advantage. Characters who require charging to use (M.Bison, Guile, etc) are exellent defenseive characters. Others who use the Dragon Punch and Quarter Circle commands are exellent offense. If you are using Ryu, try to use Shoryuken when your opponents are close. Your best chance to create a combo with this is jumping in the air, kicking your opponent and then Shoryukening them. Shoryukens/Uppercuts grants you brief invincibility shortly after you execute it. Using this the moment your opponent does a projectile heads toward you. But only use the weak punch variation. So you'll land on the grand faster and won't be as open.

AVOID CHARGING HEAD ON AT ABEL, Abel has many grab attacks at his disposel and has a dodge roll. He is a formidable opponent and you must not allow yourself to be open in his pressence. You have to be on the offensive, but back away from him when he tries to get close. Don't try to jump toward him or he will grab you from the air.

Akuma and Gouken are Secrete bosses after you beat Seth without losing once in the game and gain a certain amount of perfects or Ultra combo finishes. It's fun fighting them, so try to make that a goal of yours.

Ryu's Ultra is very avoidable. You can jump over it, use a shoryuken/uppercut or dodge roll (if you use able) to get past it. Your Ultra can pass through his.

Those are my tips

SF4 is piss easy. Like I don't mean to offend you, but you weren't made for fighting games if you thought 4 was hard haha. Seriously. Like you can't tell me you're any good at all at fighting games if you thought SF4 as hard.

See me in Third Strike. SHORYU....CANNON.

Dudley FTW

But yeah. It's because of how Tekken and MK work that it hurts the skills of many when it comes to these games. Because usually, those games ammount to getting some combo on someone to the point that they're helpless. Tekken has a habbit of having attacks that take off retarded amounts of damage (lacking supers and all). So, this seems to be what everyone's use to.

Although I like Tekken and MK, well, MK is more-so a novelty fighter nowadays. MK3 was personally my favorite. The games that were after that were good or okay. But not really that hard. I dislike how MK has been about the fatalities now. I used to play MK all the time just to figure it out. I don't care too much for the newer designs.

As for Tekken, it can be challenging. But I've managed to outsmart the computer by circling around it and hitting it several times. And like I said, put out some big combo and they're screwed. Heck, if you hit them from the ground (depending on the attack) it actually takes more damage than hitting them straight up. But, I can't complain too much.

Hellz yeah! Sean is awesome!

My mains are usually Q, Dudley and Sean. I'd say my secondaries are the classic Shoto's and Oro. With that said, Capcom disappointed me with ignoring SF3 for the most part with SF4
