Title: The games that never were.
Post by: tekmansam on July 30, 2009, 07:55:54 PM
Ya know guys, over the years I have had some wonderful (imo) ideas for movies, games, etc...One's that seemed like no brainers.  Advertising that practically wrote itself.  It seemed beyond my limited grey matter how or why someone hadn't realized these golden nuggets and made them.  I found myself in those "Man, what are they thinking.  The should put me in charge." moments.  If you feel like I do, here is a thread for you to relate your "Why the hell didn't they ever make _____ game."  I have many but off the top of my head.

1. Mega Man fighting game.  Where you can play as mega, x, zero, or any of the bosses from the first on up.

MMO-Zombie Apocalypse Survival Horror Game. Imagine thousands of people working together fighting off zombies, scavenging for food and supplies and barricading buildings to keep the ghouls at bay. Awesome. Pure, epic, win.

Actually, there was NeverWinter Nights module like that.  Does that count?

Realistic Pokemon Game, rated T.

And Lucas had this awesome idea for an MMO Dragonball fighting game.

Some sort of MMOGTA.

There are gangs and you do missions to level up, earn respect and/or get new weapons or such.
While wandering in the city, when you don't feel like doing missions, you can just attack rival gangs for fun or rewards. Of course, if someone calls the police, or you just ended up shooting a rival gang member in front of an officer, be ready to get away, as they will pursue you until arrested or killed. Or until you get into a Pay'n Spray or something.

There would also be some massive gang wars, kinda like a battleground or such, some with a goal (such as stealing an opposite gang's car or such) and some simply for killing.

Lots of vehicles and weapons to choose from, customizing your character, etc.

I guess it wouldn't work, though, or it would require a computer worth 15,000$+.

But it would be great. Or at least in my opinion.

Well I see it more like a boss rush or something than a fighting game.

You can only jump and use the buster, while in a fighting game you' be able to punch, kick, have special techniques, etc. Also, you can only use X (or at least from the part I've seen) while in a fighting game you can choose between many characters. And the energy bars are different, in a fighting game they're both equal and generally on top of the screen, not one below and one top left.

It does have some fighting game element, though, like using the same freaking attack to win a fight.

Heh, I have ideas that would take many, many paragraphs to fully explain, but would all be made of just pure win.

And only one of them would require some kind of supercomputer, but at the rate of advancement with our technology, it could be done in the near future.

But like I said, the ideas I have would take forever to fully explain, and I'm too lazy to even try to make a basic outline for them.

Oh yeah, that. You would get exp after winning battles and would have a couple stuff to put levels on (Like the budokai games for the ps2 (only played 3)), but it would be a fighting game. Where you would be able to customize your character to make it look the way you want, kinda like Soul Calibur.

I was gonna say ESF, but then I read the rest.

White Wolf made a couple of stand alone pc games for Vampire: The Masquerade and Werewolf:  The Apocalypse...they sucked.  What if they were to capitalize on the popularity of MMO's these days and make a full blown World of Darkness MMO.  Where you could be a vampire, werewolf, hunter, mage...whatever.

Steampunk Megaman. Oldschool. Not like the MMX or Zero crap you kids get into.
Platform. RPG. Zelda 2 style.

Seriously, I drew the cast of this in my sketchbook a few weeks ago, and took all of the anime out, and replaced it with bio mech steampunk robotics. I had a sweet alternate universe story line i brewed up. Its things like this that lead me to think i should hire a creative team of sweatshop phillipinos and smoke more cannibis.

I wish my digital camera didnt suckass

That would be fucking win.

Coincidentally, I'd never really played a Mega Man game until a couple of weeks ago when I spontaneously decided to play all of the originals for the NES. I skipped 1 because it frustrated me, but I played and beat 2. Fun stuff. I knew a lot about the story before playing the games, if not for listening to Protomen and reading about it.

But seriously, that is an epic idea.

Isn't there a program already that let you build something? And if I'm right, you can even buy your own model from the site. I may be wrong, but I'm actually pretty sure there is.

However, this only let you build one thing, like a car, space ship, whatever.
And I guess what you want would be more like building a house/castle with people in it and expand it to a living city.

If that's what you meant, then yeah, that would be great.

I thought of that. A lego strategy game, and they could set it in the medieval era, with all the damn pirates and stuff.

Also LEGO MMO. Not the stupid second life-style one, but a WoW style mmo, with 2 sides, and you can customize your character with lego pieces, and build yourself a house with lego pieces, etc. It'd be cool IMO.

I would like to see the RIGHT pokemon game. It would be a TBS like Mystery Dungeon but your trainer would have a character you could use, a HUMAN one. You would get to choose who you would like to ally with (the Teams, the professors research squad, the Rangers, just be a loner, etc) and the battle mechanics akin to the TV show, with actual digging, swimming, combo moves, CAPTURING KO'ED POKEMON, etc.

If anyone would be interested in doing this in Game Maker i can certainly lead the team.

I always enjoyed the adventure mode on smash bros.  It was kinda weak but I thought it had potential.  Made me want to play a fully developed sidescrolling adventure in that style with link or maybe some other people.  Just thought it had the potential to be developed into something cool.

I understand it's a highly opinionated statement.  That's why I said, "pretty much."  I believe Dragon Warrior came first (but never was a fan of that, franchise didn't really last anyway)  Unless you can count old commodore text based rpg's or something of the like, my statement holds more or less true.  Personally, I abhor the direction ff has gone and consider it dead, for the most part, but to think that anyone who likes rpg's doesn't like or, at least, respect ff is crazy (to me).

You should check out Lord of the Rings: Conquest. It's a Battlefield (thus also Battlefront) type game, but instead of guns and stuff you have sword fighters, bowmen, scouts and mages.

Come on. What'd you expect from the guy with the Final Fantasy avatar anyway?

Anyway, underalied from topic:

A Robot Arena (http://www.robotarena.com/) game that's even better. RA1 was mediocre. RA2 was alright, but really hard to work with properly. If they implemented a symmetry option (something like Spore) and a wider variety of parts and controls, I think the game could really get somewhere. Oh, and it would probably be helped if it had more fictitious methods of robots that could be created, like car-sized gasoline-powered robots that just speed around arenas and run everything over, or robots that use fire, electricity, and other funky weapons that are usually illegal. Since, it is simulation, after all.

Source Engine Megaman game. Plays like a FPS, but instead uses the MM setting and formula, with robot masters, weapon stealing, and the like. It could do a 'wily wars' sort of thing, recreating the first three MM games, and as you complete the scenarios, you can eventually play as some of the robot masters. Playing as robot masters like Guts Man, Quick Man, and Flash Man could be pretty awesome.

An FPS that involved character creation and a superhero setting. Character Creation could be similar to that of like COH, but a bit more customizable in terms of gameplay style. You could opt for more melee or ranged combat style, more or less defense, and various movement methods. Play as a stealthy 'batman-esque' hero, who can move athletically by aid of various grappling hooks and gymnastics, and uses martial arts to fight upclose. Or maybe a really powerful hero in powered armor, which can take lots of upfront damage, use the environment as his weapon, and also hit quite hard upclose. An ice controller could probably be made and could learn abilities that allow them to create ice walls for protection, freeze water sources, and shoot icicles. Psychics would also be really cool, and perhaps use mind control to make a sort of hypnotized mini-force that can serve as meat shields for the psychic. And we can't forget gravity-gun-esque telekinesis.

Fake.
nope, Try google, or look at all the Youtube videos of it.
the map you see is Zanzibar, but if it was faked from the real Halo2 Zanzibar The graphics and death animation would look better.

I don't own the DS, but it looks like the graphics are a bit too good and clean for a DS game. I mean, the 3D on a game like Mario 64 DS (http://dsmedia.ign.com/ds/image/article/567/567976/super-mario-64-ds-20041120091123141.jpg) is very grainy. Like a Playstation, sort of. The graphics quality on this so-called Halo-DS look more like the real Halo for an X-Box.

Gentlemen, this can be nothing but... a conspiracy!

No seriously, I'd need something better to actually believe it is not goatballs (an alternative for bullsh*t).
Something like, I don't know, confirmation from Microsoft or whatever that it was in development, but cancelled.

Super Metroid DS. I know there's plenty of game remakes already, but this is so far my favourite Metroid game, and I'd like to have it on a handheld system (even thought I'm out of DS for now). Oh and maybe some new features and such.
Either that, or a new Metroid for DS but platform (or whatever), not FPS.

FF6 for the Wii, PS3 or Xbox360. 3D graffics, Improved sumon system (like FF10) and maybe third person veiw when controling the Falcon. I'd love that.

Summons were fine the way they were, and you already have 3rd person view when flying the Falcon as well as the Blackjack.

Switching between steve urkel and Steffan Urquel would be about as good as that game got.
That, and if they gave you the option to kick that horse toothed girl who played laura in the teeth.

Final Fantasy 8 would be great. If they could only remake one it should be this. 7 already has a million remakes and besides # 9, all the other Final Fantasy's are pretty boring or just suck (FF 6, X, and 11, 12 are boring, X-2 sucks) but its just an opinion, but #8 is good stuff.

8...not as much.

actually, 7 has no remakes, it has spinoffs. 8 had one of the weakest stories since 1, and in NO WAY AT ALL deserves remakes, spinoffs, etc. Not when compared to the other options. 9 could use a remake...downgraded to 2-d, top down perhaps. 7,8,10 etc deserves nothing. nothing.

nothing.

6 should be remade a-la 4 via DS. Keep all of its systems, they were perfect. Anyone who says otherwise is very obviously underage

I'm honestly wondering why they haven't done this already, seeing as they've done it with four, albeit four was in 3D.

I wasnt going to say this but... FF 6 is the most BORING FF game in excstence. the only thing good about it is the graphics. # 8 is the Final Fantasy with the strongest story so... Shut up! Final Fantasy 8 was an amazing sci fi adventure and you know it. # 6 can go to hell and die. but in the end its all just opinions. And just because I dont like # 6 doesnt mean Im underage.

Just because I have a strong dislike of phychoatic jesters and would rather float in space and play the "save my girl friend" mini game. C'mon its not like Im saying they shouldnt remake 6. Im just saying a remake of # 8 is WAY more deserved and blows FF 6 out of the water.

It does make me laugh how everyone has their own Final Fantasy game.
I despise 7 and 8 and find them extremely boring.

Extremly boring or the 2 best Final Fantasy games in exstence while all the rest are medicore... except # 9. 9 is good to. And Versus 13 looks good.

8 was my favorite (oh wait, I haven't played any others), but refrain from posting after each reply, and don't get all antsy just because someone hated your FF.

VIII is my least favourite Final Fantasy game. Though, this is only based on parts V, VI, VII, VIII, IX, X, X-2, XII. And I haven't finished V or VI, so I can't tell if I like them better or worse overall. Still, IX and X are way more enjoyable than VII and VIII to me.

# 8 is the Final Fantasy with the strongest story so...

I can sum up the FF8 story...

Squall: Oh look, I'm Squall, I am emo and am incapable of caring for other people!

Seifer: I'm Seifer! I go try kill president and be knight!

Squall: THEY GONNA KILL HIM!!!! T_T No one better talk about me in the past tense!

Ellone: I send you to past now!

Squall: :O ...Okay.

-stuff happens-

Squall: I now must save Rinoa!

-cheesy space adventure-

Rinoa: Yay! I saved!

Squall: Yay!

Rinoa: But I get taken by Esthar when land... T_T

Squall: T_T

-rescue and go to the future-

Ultimecia: I am somehow this game's main villain!

Squall: Now you dead!

Ultimecia: :O

Squall: Now I care about others!

-End-

Despite this, I still liked FF8. But, IMO, 5,6,9, and the Tactics series are much better. My only gripe with 9 was the final boss >_>

Elder Scrolls Steampunk.

Why not advance the technology forward a couple of decades, and see what machinery can crop up?
Think of the weapons, man, the weapons!

Well a game I've always wanted is a sword fighting war game with the mechanics of Star Wars Battlefront.   You know where you're like a soldier with a sword and there's a bunch of people fighting along with you.
I think Dynasty Warriors is pretty similar to that...

They're all good, I personally prefer 6 but all the games are winners. Apart from II and X-2.

WIN!!!

I think that there SHOULD be a Doctor Who game for DS/PS2/Wii/X-box/PC/whatever you can think of. Possibly a MMORPG? TOP TRUMPS DOESN'T COUNT!!!!! Also, how many of you heard this (completely false so far as I know) rumour about the next Wii Zelda game? http://www.zentendo.com/forums/index.php?topic=13375.0 (http://www.zentendo.com/forums/index.php?topic=13375.0) Wouldn't that be awesome? Also remakes of all the old Zelda games for DS!!!
