Title: CASTLEVANIA: Scourge of 1691 [Originally Ninji's Castlevania]

Title screen by Vlad Shadeu
(sorry, had to lower color depth)

You can probably tell, but this is an RPG based on Konami's Castlevania. The original idea was to focus on the exploits of Sonia Belmont, Trevor Belmont, and Christopher Belmont, but that idea has since been scrapped. The new idea of the game is focusing on Simon Belmont, and his exploits in 1691 to defeat Count Dracula.

[replacement screen coming soon]
There is now only one playable character, rather than three. However, there are many gameplay options. Simon Belmont has around 7 different costumes (which I already made), and each costume gives different effects.

NORMAL COSTUME: Does nothing
CV2 SIMON: Gives Simon the ability to walk through enemies.
SCV4 SIMON: Gives Simon the ability to whip enemies before entering battle (this takes away 1/4 of the enemy's life)
HC SIMON: Gives Simon the ability to warp dimensions (in other words, teleport to other areas from any room)
X68000 SIMON: Gives Simon the ability to Item Crash.
CHRONICLES SIMON: Halves the enemy's life in battle.
JUDGMENT SIMON: Doubles the enemy's life in battle.

However, there are noncanonical playable characters featured.

There are now save points located around the castle, as well as Teleport Rooms, allowing you to teleport from one area of the castle to the other instantly.

The battles in the game are normal RPG battles. Except I made them from a first person point of view (kind of like RM2K). That way the battlefield can be more occupied by monsters. Originally, during boss battles, an ABS would take over, allowing a more action oriented fight against the boss. However, this has since been scrapped, due to a huge gameplay change making the fight harder than it should be.

The game's closer to being finished. A voice cast has been included as well.

CHARACTERS:
Simon Belmont - Voiced by Austin Howard - The hero of this story. Simon was given the holy whip to destroy Count Dracula.

Dracula - Voiced by Adrian Levitsky - The villain of this story. Has been revived after his battle against Christopher Belmont 100 years ago.

Death - Voiced by Ivan Kopcewich - Count Dracula's right hand man.

TRIPLE SOUNDTRACK FEATURE
Originally the Double Soundtrack feature, I now made it the triple. This game features 3 soundtracks: 1691 Mode, NEW Mode, and ORIGINAL Mode.

EXAMPLE:
Selecting 1691 Mode plays Vampire Killer, specially composed for this game, in the first stage.
Selecting NEW Mode plays Vampire Killer from Akumajou Dracula: The Arcade in the first stage. (unlocked by completing the game)
Selecting ORIGINAL Mode plays Vampire Killer from Castlevania in the first stage. (unlocked by completing the game)

NEW FEATURES:
SECRET SHOP - Upon completing the game, you can use gold that you've obtained throughout the course of the game to purchase bonus materials, such as minigames, costumes, and the like. Costumes sell for 20,000 Gold, Minigames for 50,000, Difficulties for 5,000, and bonus characters for 10,000.

The costumes are already listed.

Minigames include:
KEY SEARCHER - Search for keys to find your way out of the castle, as well as save other prisoners.
SURVIVAL MODE - Battle your way through constant waves of enemies, and be the last one standing!
TRIVIA - Simon has to find his way across, but there's only one way through... TRIVIA! Answer questions related to Castlevania games to prevail.
*Other minigames may be included

Difficulties include: (Normal difficulty is 100%)
NEWBIE - Makes the game's difficulty 50%
AMATEUR - Makes the game's difficulty 70%
VETERAN - Makes the game's difficulty 130%
PROFESSIONAL - Makes the game's difficulty 150%

Bonus characters include:
Sonia Belmont
Trevor Belmont
Christopher Belmont
Leon Belmont
*Note: These were the original characters of Ninji's Castlevania

Well, this is all I got so far...

If anyone has any suggestions or knows where to get good chipsets that match the town ruins setting (I can't find any that look Castlevania-like) then that would be great.

Oh and if anyone knows how to put the images in thumbnails and could tell me, that would help too. xD

RTP chipsets are not pretty, neither is a guy in a thong. *Eyes melting* >_<

Some people can use RTP to make good maps.

You cant. Your maps are all blocky and boring.

Check the CR, there are tons of good Castlevania like maps there.

Yeah, I've been meaning to edit his sprite.

I've done good maps before with RTP, but for some reason I just can't do it with CV. I've made it look like the actual CVs like that (horrible level design) and that's not good. >.<

New Sprites

1. Trevor Belmont
Trevor had to be edited due to the fact he was only wearing half a shirt and a thong.

2. Alucard
Dracula's dhampire son!

3. Sonia Belmont
The supposed first Belmont (I prefer Leon)!
I know that people on the internet have been saying that the reason they took Sonia out was because she was a woman. The real reason is this: Her story conflicts with CV3. Trevor was said to be the first Belmont to have defeated Dracula, so by placing Sonia before him, that messes things up. But when Leon was placed as the first Belmont, he didn't even fight Dracula. So Leon's story makes a little more sense (except for the fact that Dracula didn't have common sense).

For being fairly new to all of this, you seem to be going along quite nicely. If you need anything PM me.

I figured I'd put up the progress that my friends have finished, instead of posting it all up at once.

For being fairly new to all of this, you seem to be going along quite nicely. If you need anything PM me.
Thanks.
Well, I have been doing practice games before actually starting on a real project. My friends and I are just basically putting in ideas that we'd like to have seen in other RPGs (and we haven't posted up most of the stuff yet, so there's more coming).

And yeah, the Character Specific thing we made a while back, but we hadn't decided on the items yet.

Thanks to my friends yulia455 and sieku, I've got a new feature. A minigame called "Key Searcher". This game is based on Vampire Killer on the MSX2. In VK, what you had to do to progress is search for keys to go forward. What yulia455 and sieku have given me is this: You play as the famed hero Simon Belmont, but his power has been sapped away and he is no stronger than the common man. He has escaped from the cell in which Count Dracula has placed him in and must search for keys to escape from the castle. This minigame also has a few sidequests. There are two other keys than the area keys: Treasure Keys, and Prisoner Keys. There are ten Prisoner Keys located throughout the game. You need these to unlock the prison cells in the dungeon and save the maidens (though there are only 3 maidens). Playing on normal difficulty decreases the key amount to 5, and Har mode decreases it to 3. The treasure keys unlock chests, which include extra content for the main game. There is one chest for every story.

So thanks to yulia455 and sieku.

sorry about double post, but I wanna put up the stuff that my group's done so I don't forget and so I don't make a long post.

It took him a while though, but Don Pueblo made a minigame I might add. This was meant at first to be a full-fledged project, but I guess he figured it wasn't long enough. Remember, I said I -might- add it in. I'll figure this out when I'm closer to finishing the main game instead of all the extras.

The minigame is called 8Bit Rondo. It's pretty much Akumajo Dracula X: Chi no Rondo in 8bit form, designed to be more like the original Castlevania, so there's only 6 stages. Boo. But that's what the main game is for (I might add Richter's story). Don Pueblo already finished this minigame. If I don't add it, he'll release it on the internet as its own game. If anyone (even one person) wants it in, that'll increase its chances on it becoming a feature for the game. But as of right now, I won't confirm anything since I need the main game finished (Trevor's story is causing a little bit of problems). The game itself is almost 100MB right now anyway since I'm using MP3s instead of Midis.

The mini game sounds good, I would like that, but you should spend your time on the main game if you need to.

Sonia Belmont
The supposed first Belmont. And the reason that the Belmonts got kicked out of Wallachia.

Evidently, Leon Belmont fell off the planet.

I'm focusing on the main game, so that's why I'm not sure if I should put the minigame in or not.

Finally back, and sorry again for double posting

But I now have a full list of voice actors for the game. Here they are (no one famous, just a bunch of friends and friends' friends, and so on)

Sonia Belmont - Christy Brinkley
Alucard - Austin Parish
Dracula - Mike Barnes
Trevor Belmont - Douglas Roberts
Sypha Belnades - Linda Ivangel
Grant Danasty - Dan Esther
Christopher Belmont - Alan C. Groves
Soleiyu Belmont - Kevin Palmer
Richter Belmont - Chris Hess
Maria Renard - Bridget Hall
Annette Renard - Madison Rita
Tera - Alexis Yudina
Iris - Melissa Miller
Shaft - Jesse Charland
Nathan Graves - Jeremy Wasser
Hugh Baldwin - Derek Kwan
Morris Baldwin - Josh Moreau
Carmilla - Alice Shephard
Death - David Amezcua

Yep, a large cast of voices. Larger cast of characters than before (added the Dracula X characters, Circle of the Moon, etc.) You must unlock the Double Soundtrack feature now (was initially available, but now you must beat a story to unlock it's second soundtrack). You can also unlock special abilities for all playable characters, such as Sonia's Burning Mode, or Richter's slide kick and uppercut, or Alucard's wolf form. Took a very long time to implement those features, so I hope they're a little bit enjoyable.

Story's going well. The voices in Christopher's story are completely recorded, just working on the finishing touches.

I'll work at getting some good screenshots (better than the Trevor in a thong one, I am ashamed of that), and I'll probably put a demo up sometime.

Guess what about this game? TOO MANY BUGS! So, I scrapped the entire original idea and started fresh. Don't worry, all those bonus features are still in the game, but the story, setting, and characters changed to something more simple.

The game has been renamed Castlevania: Scourge of 1691, and you take the role of Simon Belmont. It's pretty much now a remake of the original Castlevania in RPG form. And yes, I changed the voice cast. The old one... kinda sucked.

SIMON BELMONT: Austin Howard
COUNT DRACULA: Adrian Levitsky
DEATH: Ivan Kopcewich
MEDUSA: Evee Elric
IGOR: Gabe
FRAGMENTS: Adrian Levitsky
ALAN BELMONT: Austin Parish

I'll be posting up new screens soon, as well as redoing the main post. This is gonna take a while.
