Title: <title></title>: Now spiraling out of control... crappy, serious or I dunno...

This game started out as a crappy game, but now I don't know what to call it.  Weeoo.

WARNING - THE GAME WILL CONTAIN:
Strong language, drug use, blood, gore, cats, bad jokes and cliches.

The story so far:

     Alex the lawn gnome lives in the very creatively named village of Gnometown.  (Well, you can call him Alex if you want, but that's his default name.)  It's almost time for the Mushroom Festival but unfortunately our hero has forgotten to gather his shrooms.  So, without further ado, he sets out to find his mushrooms in time for the festival.  He finds them... only to find out that [spoiler].  
     Alex leaves the village with tears in his eyes.  He looks behind him, pauses, and decides to do it.
     "GOODBYE, YOU F*CKERS!  SEE YOU IN HELL!!!!!!!"
     And with that he switches the safety off, opens the cover and twists the lever.  Gnometown disappears in a cloud of fire.

     - One month later -

     Alex arrives at Gnometown again.
     "... how the f*ck did they rebuild it?"

I like cats. this sounds like an intreasting crappy game. It bothers me how some people get upset with games like this.

I guess I'll keep him in there.  He'll sell you OxiClean, a magical item that does... stuff.

There will be four zones in the demo.  They are Gnome Village, Mountain Summit, Mountain Forest and Mountain Field.  So far, only the village is completed.

Collecting mushrooms will be like collecting fruit in Zuhane's "Gulpy Gulpy!" except without the whole "ARUGA!" thing.  Even though that was one of the most annoying things I've heard.

I can't believe I actually finished the demo today.  But I finished one of my school assignments and felt I deserved a break...

Here it is:
NOTHING! ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!  THE DEMO IS IN FOR REPAIRS.

Notes:
 - This is a RAR file, about 18mB.  Unzip to the projects section of your RM2k3 directory.
 - PLEASE DON'T LOOK THROUGH THE FILES UNTIL AFTER YOU HAVE BEATEN THE GAME!  It will give things away.  Also, please don't look at coding or mess with it.
 - You need to delete the save files.  They won't work well.
 - Contains strong language.
 - Billy Mays and Vince Offer are referenced in the gameplay but don't actually appear...
 - Some things may seem completely unoriginal.  Oh well.
 - I left the save function in because I felt like being nice in the demo.  
 - Real reason: I forgot to remove it.  Enjoy my fail while you fail.\
EDIT: I now realize this game is very unoriginal.  
And I tried to make something new...

Some hints (don't be an @$$hat!):

How the HAIL do you have a 18 MB demo that you threw together in like a day in a half when my largest game project that I've been working on for almost 10 years and has like 25 hours of gameplay is at 8.18 MB in RAR form?

Man, I don't even want to know what you've tossed in that file.

The dying donkey sound effect alone is 4.3 MB.  Add in some wav format music...
Oh, the file is 20-25 MB uncompressed.  Just to let y'all know...

Taking down the demo link.  I am going to modify it and make it more original.

 - I will try to add in Billy Mays and Vince Offer.
 - Battles!
 - More custom graphics.
 - More sound effects and annoying music.

Immediate EDIT: I realize this will also FFFF up two other files.  They weren't really important anyway.

Don't worry.  I need to some up with some really original death traps and other annoyances.

And the Billy Mays sprite is almost done.  I just need to finish making him walk.  I'm keeping the crappy gnome sprite, though.  It fits the mood perfectly.

I knew that would be really easy.  I happen to have most of the original sound files from RE4... why let them go to waste?

The merchant doesn't walk.  He doesn't need to.  I made his sprite by starting with the RTP ninja.  You might be able to see that.

Maybe.  I'm going on a sailing/camping badenture on Saturday morning to Sunday night.  School starts on Monday...but it's not like I have anything else to do in the meantime.

And yes, I did see the RE4 merchant sprite.  I just made this one a long time ago and decided to use it, even if it's not as good.

I see. I just said somthing becuase I used it in my own crappy RPG TAJAD (The Adventures of Jet and David). I like you'r two though and I love to see pepole make/slash use their stuff. So RP+1.

The owl failed for some reason.  Instead of giving you an annoying message like in Zelda, he simply vanished.  I'm still trying to find out why.

Also, I was away for the weekend and did not work on this project.

Edit: Fixed demo.  It was a fast solution.

The first is Jack D. Ripper.  He's on a quest to stop the fluoridation of our drinking water, a Communist plan to sap and impurify our precious bodily fluids.  He will be able to join your party.  Weapon:  A machine gun he pulled out of a golf bag.

The second is somewhat obvious, I hope.  I should have drawn box flaps at the bottom.  Oh well.

I'm going to tinker with a custom shop (RE4 Merchant) for a few more days, and then I think I'll ask for help.  But until I actually ask, please don't tell me what to do.  I'm trying to figure it out on my own for now.

Cameo characters and unoriginality doesn't automatically mean it's bad. You picked some awesome goofballs to put in there. I still wish it was actually Koffing though.

I'm going to tinker with a custom shop (RE4 Merchant) for a few more days, and then I think I'll ask for help.  But until I actually ask, please don't tell me what to do.  I'm trying to figure it out on my own for now.

I've never heard of those games... but they're survival horror.  

I do like those type of games to a degree.  But at they remind me of what I see regularly in dreams.  Think Silent Hill, but before Silent Hill was released.

Well, not me as in me, but me as in my character (corrupted beyond all recognition of course).

Combine The Doctor (Dr. Who), Bender, The BOFH, and a whole bunch of other pepole (and a dog) and you've got Schilcote, Emperor of the Stephinian Empire. He fights wars with TEH MIGHTY POWAR OF ROCK AND ROLL (and wins). I'll put those stories I wrote using him up somewhere.

So, I have here Blocko the 1-bit Cat and General Jack D. Ripper (curse PRG Maker and only being able to fit "Jack Ripper" on the line!)

Jack Ripper was made in Charas.EX!  I grayscaled him and then made him hold stuff.

Basically, Blocko is a boss you fight because the main character is an idiot and attacks him.  Afterwards, he joins the party and becomes that nagging voice in the back of your head that really DOES know what is best.

Jack Ripper is also a boss... he thinks you're a Cammanist (from the nation of Camman) attempting to sabotage T_____'s potion supply.  He joins up after that scuffle and should be the main offense of the party.

So, yah.  Their battlesets are almost done.

Also working on the opening video.  Hooboy, that's going to take a while.  Windows movie maker and MS Paint only go so far...

Riiiight, I'm restarting the game already, with the amateur's mod.  I've made a custom main menu...

I'm still going to use the RTP quite a bit to give it a crappy edge.  However, I find myself wanting to incorporate more and more stuff... Weeoo.

EDIT:  

Now it's spiraling out of control.  I have actually started using graph paper to plan out towns and houses.  So far, the gnome village and everything associated with that is almost done.  I've also designed a Traverse Town-like city, something along the lines of a central safe zone with tons of stuff to do.  It will contain many buildings, some taken from other games.  

To complete this, I'm going to take the easy way out and use textures for chipsets.  Otherwise, it'll take forever.

I'm trying to limit music to a maximum of50 mb and sounds to 25 mb.  It's kinda tough.

This mod of RPG2003 has reference memory errors in one of its sound plugins... but without it, I won't have the custom menu or be able to skip the Enterbrain logo screen.

For anyone who has a passing interest...

Ah well, good try. I don't see why you needed a hack anyway. You've got something interesting already. Also as for being serious or not, I say do what you like. That's what I'm doing crappy RPG.

I have played this game for a little while and it's pretty hilarious. Love all the Metal Gear references to random video games. Are you still working on this or taking a break for the moment?
