So...apparently there's a...um...I'm not sure how to explain it.
I'll let Game Informer (http://gameinformer.com/b/news/archive/2009/10/05/spoiler-alert-epic-november-issue-revealed.aspx), Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epic_Mickey), and some damn creepy concept art (http://offworld.com/2009/07/gallery-the-broke-down-steampu.html) speak for itself.
My reaction:
...wow.
EDITS:
New GameInformer piece on Mickey's history (http://gameinformer.com/games/disney_epic_mickey/b/wii/archive/2009/10/09/Cover-rise-of-an-icon-a-pictorial-history-of-mickey-mouse.aspx).

Warren Spector Warren Spector Warren Spector Warren Spector Warren Spector Warren Spector Warren Spector

Oh yeah, that too.
Sorry, forgot to mention it.
-
The concept art gave me pause. Then I turned off my music to see if it had the same effect, the comeuppance of which I was not surprised by.
My reaction:
Bahahahahahaha

I'm excited.
-
Yes. Heard about this a couple days ago, and I jizzed.
Can't wait for this GI to show up in a mailbox near me.
-
I like it. It's almost like an allegory for what's currently happening to disney's heritage, now that they're more focused on making movies about a modern cinderella or a musical set in high school, rather than, say, a damn legitimate high-rate movie... Except that maybe that frog prince one coming out in 2009/10 thing. That might be good.
-
Finally, something with 'epic' in the title that's actually epic! Thanks to 'epic fail' and stuff like that epic is over used. I cannot wait for this game though... What's the betting they aren't gonna release it in europe. The best stuff never gets over here. I agree with Bluhman about the symbolism, but I'm thinking that there are vague similarities to American Mcgee's Alice.
-
I'm really not sure what to think of this.
-
I'm really not sure what to think of this.
Yeah, I'm pretty lost for words too...
What?
-
I'm not entirely sure what anyone can do at this point.
-
I'm thinking it's going to be awesome.
-
http://www.offworld.com/oimages/em5goofy_zombie.jpg = awesome.
-
I can't shake off the Disneyness. If it had an all original setting, and all original characters, it might be easier for me to embrace it. As of right now, I can't see past the ridiculousness of it.
-
Jesus...
So how much better can this get?
-
I haven't been a fan of Disney stuff since about when I turned 5 years old (honestly I find anyone that's Disney-obsessed over the age of about 14 and that doesn't have children a little creepy) but DAYUM does some of that concept art look awesome. I think I'll pick this one up.
-
New GameInformer story (http://gameinformer.com/games/disney_epic_mickey/b/wii/archive/2009/10/09/Cover-rise-of-an-icon-a-pictorial-history-of-mickey-mouse.aspx).
Chronicling the older adventures of Mickey, giving rise to a lot of older cartoons that kind of help you imagine what's going to happen in Epic.
-
I think this may well be the weirdest game idea I've ever seen.

If it had all original characters, it wouldn't be NEARLY as interesting.
No, this has decades and decades of backstory.
-
Holy...Mother...****ing...Shits.

So, some screenshots are released (http://gameinformer.com/b/features/archive/2009/10/19/Inside-the-Game_3A00_-An-In_2D00_Depth-Look-at-Epic-Mickey_1920_s-Art-and-Animation.aspx).
I thought that it didn't quite look up until I saw the zombie Donald (http://gameinformer.com/cfs-filesystemfile.ashx/__key/CommunityServer.Components.PostAttachments/00.00.03.82.87/Donald.jpg).
-
Ummmm...
Well. If you smack Donald, does he leak oil?
-
IMO, the 3d Zombie Donald is horrible.
the sketch of him is creepy enough to be cool though.
-
He appears to be some sort of robo-Donald.
Don't know why you people keep calling him a zombie.
-
IMO, this game appears to be full of win.

I think it's due to pieces missing from the outer shelling showing the internal gears and whatever, giving a kind of undead-ish quality.
-
I thought it gave him a look of incompletion or disrepair.
Whatever. I seem to have a more accurate imagination. Not better, more accurate.

Actually I haven't been too impressed with what I'm hearing about the game game. It seems to be a platformer where you have to paint/erase parts of the levels to get through. That sort of mechanic is sort of interesting, but it hardly seems epic enough for all this awesome art that's been coming out.

You realize that there's a difference between ideas on paper and ideas in practice, yes? There are so many cases where the two don't match up, and one end up being so much better than the other. Here's an example (but in reverse): Bethesda's general fare of games, the Elder Scrolls series, primarily. The best way of describing the games is "An MMORPG, but completely remove the multiplayer aspect". Sounds horrible, and doomed to fail. However, the series is hugely popular, and they've continued to show off the success with Fallout 3.
It goes both ways, you see. However, the point I'm trying to make is that we'll have to wait and see how they do.
-
You make a good point... If that is all it is, it might be more media bloat than actual delivery... but yes, wait and see.
-
Don't know why you people keep calling him a zombie.
Because I thought that the one on the left had an exposed ribcage...but it's a screw shaft.

You know, that's a very good point. I hadn't really looked at it like that.
-
I always look at things that way. I'm a skeptic, but unlike most skeptics, I'm not a pessimist.
-
So true, sometimes games surprise you, in good ways. Often bad ways (movie based games especially :P), but sometimes good ways. This may be one of those.
-
I got good hopes for the game. Despite being mickey and specter. I want my childhood snes memories revisited.
-
Oh, yeah, there's actual honest to goodness screenshots now.
Go check the feature on GI, I'm too bleh to link in here.
-
I AM A NECROMANCER
Holy **** opening sequence is kinda scary (http://youtu.be/4-MnhFSHTxU/)
-
Wait wait wait, its actually called Epic Mickey? I thought it was just a bunch of col kids being jackasses.
That's really stupid.
-
It's yet to be named, although it's very likely that it'll have the name "Epic Mickey", because it's popular.
-
Damn right it's EPIC. Everything these days that's good has to be EPIC to succeed. Hell, they even made an EPIC movie. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0799949/) Look how well that did!
-
At least it's got a better name than Kirby's Epic Yarn
-
Kirby's Epic Yarn is an adorable pun. Though it's actually using the definition of epic in it's use, it comes off a little "EPIC, EPIC FOR THE WIN." anyways.
