So finally got off my *** and started making a game again. Made this faceset today.

(Zoomed in)
Here are some sprites too

Faceset Step by step:
(The back of the hood/head is missing cause I knew it wouldn't end up in the faceset)

Ooh, pretty.
But to be fair, wouldn't you be getting on your *** instead of off it?
-
wouldn't you be getting on your *** instead of off it?
lol.
And yeah, good stuff.
...Wait, you're making a game? :D
-
Thanks guys :)
Ooh, pretty.

Sort of but I don't think you can get on your *** if you've already been on it for twenty years XD.
lol.
...Wait, you're making a game? :D
Yep! Gave up working on a new version of Palis cause I couldn't get it right anymore :(.
So I've started a new one which is more like a dark fairy tale.
Cool stuff. I think the face looks too much like a gradient, and those eyes are pretty scary. Other than that, pretty awesome. You did it with a mouse?
I checked it out- on the monitor I did it on it doesn't look like a gradient, but on my laptop (which is really bright) it does since you can't see the changes in colour, so I might have to make one version of the game for bright laptop screens and another for the kind of monitor on my desktop.
The eyes are intentionally a bit creepy, which is why the sprites all have big eyes too.
And yes, used a mouse :).
-
Here's one with the contrast upped for brighter monitors

Hmm... Good point.
-
You drew, scanned, and colored your own faceset! That's amazing! I might have to give that a shot myself, though I'm pretty bad at figuring out coloring on anything bigger than pixel art.
-
I concur, and it looks quite well done too. Hm, love the idea of drawing and making your own face sets. Might try it out myself sometime. ^_^
-
Very talented good job
-
I'm tempted to try doing this too. Only thing is, I'm way outta practice for more "serious" drawing.
-
Nice job on the faceset! Make more!
-
Thanks guys :D. In terms of drawing by hand and scanning versus drawing on the computer, I'm definitely finding the by hand stuff easier- more time consuming especially with lineart, but a lot easier. So it might be worth a shot. :)
Here's another faceset
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v92/greenabsinthe/jackfaceposting.jpg)
And again the step by step

dat sum hot facework yo
-
Very pretty.
Very "metro".
-
Ah, another nice piece. Keep up the good work, I also like seeing the step-by-step by it.
-
Very nice. I agree with defining the nose a little more though.

This is why I miss my photoshop and wish I could get my own scanner working. :/ Exelent work, Zerl, I look forward to seeing more stuff. ^_-

Nose has been darkened :)
Soo..."real world" art, I designed and sewed this costume for halloween... everything you see from the goggles to the socks were home made. (didn't design the hand part of the glove, that came from an online tutorial). Also, sadly the sprocket board on my arm guard came off before these pictures were taken :( I have some process pics, but no time to resize them right now so I'll post them tomorrow if anyone's interested.
You can see the choker a bit better here...I cut the collar off of a shirt that didn't fit very well, and glued some lace, ribbons, pearl string ,and a charm I got at Value Village to it. THe corset was made out of old vinyl I had leftover from shooting. Skirt is made of this awesome material that I got at 33% cost :D...to give it more texture and body, I sewed up the ends and put in some tulle...to keep one end up I put grommits into the side of the skirt and used lace to string the holes together. You can't see the chain with sprockets and charms in any of the pictures unfortunately, but I'll try to take a pic of it sometime. The goggles were old swimming goggles that I wrapped in brown vinyl, then replaced the nosepiece with a clasp I found at the fabric store. The string is just black elastic.
Also sorta like a photography post, took this photo of a friend who I was with, he made all the mechanical bits for everyone, including an awesome arm. I made his coat from some wool material... ran out of thread the night before, so I ended up glue gunning some of the parts together XD. I didn't design it, though (used a pattern).

Another photography post...

And here is all of us together.

-
That's better than every costume I've ever worn.
Combined.
Then again, most of my costumes consist largely of an all-purpose black cape and a vampire t-shirt.
-
Those are pretty nifty costumes. The last image looks almost natural.
-
Awesome work!
-
Awesome.
-
Are those K'Nex I spy in that gauntlet?
-
Yeah, I noticed that too.
-
Thanks guys!
And yeah those are k'nex :P.
-
Last of the bunch, I swear. Finished processing this photo yesterday and really liked it :)

-
Glasses and goggles.
Clearly, this man has four eyes.
-
Six, really- the goggles actually go over the glasses
-
No, I'm pretty sure he has eyes on his forehead.
-
Some more game art (been told it's hard to see on some monitors, but I can't make the lighting good for other monitors without being able to see what it looks like for them). Sketched first by hand, then lined and coloured in photoshop (mouse).
-
I can't see anything, and my brightness is up all the way be default.
Might just be because my monitor sucks.
-
Well, after fudging with my monitor settings, I think I see how people could have a hard time seeing what's going on. Might I suggest that you do something to create a contrast between the character and the background? Perhaps even give a light glow around the left edge of the character? Just to break the blackness? Or, perhaps, you could give a little more light to the brightened side, so that there's a less immediate plunge into darkness? There are a few ways to address the issue; I'm sure you'll figure something out.
-
I think I see what's supposed to be seen. The character being partly veiled in darkness is part of the appeal. But I guess you can tweak it if it means people with wonky monitors can see anything.
Awesome as usual.
-
Agreed. I can see it though. Pretty cool. =D
-
I was bored so I made these sprites of the Terra characters. Background is borrowed, but the sprites are from scratch.
-
Pretty neat.
-
Made this for my friend's dragon shooter game
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v92/greenabsinthe/dragonanimationformax.gif)
-
Just finished the...tileset? I don't know what it's called in a shooter. But yes, it looks like this:
Ta da! I got sort of lazy with the mountains and trees and just made one and copied it...I was going for a sort of NES look.
-
I think you succeeded on that note.
I like it.
-
Cleared. Woohoo!
-
Whoo, it looks a lot creepier now. The arms are pretty screwed up. But hey, you picked the right part to display as your avatar.
-
Yep. Ah, but you do have a point....I don't want people to see it as creepy so I'll clear it for now XD.
-
No, no, keep it up. It might not be such a bad idea to take another stab at it, though.
-
I think I will, then I'll post up that version.
-
Was reading Dracula, so here's Lucy in the sleepwalking scene.
-
Pretty nice. I like the hair.
-
Made this for the avatar contest.
Used this reference image (http://savemiette.deviantart.com/art/mask-78174882).

New song...I wanted to do something that required more skill than my other songs and was really interested in doing an old 1950s hollywood musical song in the style it was originally intended to be sung. It's not perfect cause I did it in one go and just edited it for breaths and to make it sound like an older recording.
(Also I kind of look like **** cause I had an early rehearsal this morning but just ignore that...)

-
Awesome, I had no clue you could sing!
And shut up, you look gorgeous
-
Yeah, I can't believe how well you sing. It's damn crazy.
I sing like ass after a meal of beans.
-
That was amazing! You sing beautifully
-
thanks guys :)

Made this for some friends in my cultural philosophy class, but if any of you have ever sat through any philosophy class, you might still enjoy it:
Last Minute Philosophy Project (http://joyoflim.blogspot.com/2010/11/last-minute-philosophy-project.html)
-
I can't stop giggling.
-
I am wondering why did I understood all that.

This was brilliant and I lol'd
-
I don't intend to take philosophy. Still laughed my *** off.
-
I only understood the first one thanks to my communist political science teacher. =P
-
That reminds me why I hated Philosophy so much.
-
Or does it?
-
Atleast the finals are easy.
-
Or does it?
Can we even rationally assume that "philosophy" exists?
-
'Existance' is defined entirely by 'perception'. Perception is the interpretation of electronic signals in the brain. What is to say that our dreams are not reality and that this world is not a dream?
That was fantastic. Pretty much the same article could be done about a fine art course too.

:(
-
Cheating bastages can fly though.
-
:(
I agree.
-
Whoa! Holy shipmate! Zerlina, you know if you're free... could you possibly do some rough, scratchy art
for my game? You have no idea how complete that would make my life!
-
In the new series they can hover, but that doesn't count.
-
Dr. Who. I don't watch the show, but I know enough about it to know that that's a Dalek (sp).
-
Daleks, unless they hover, can't climb stairs. They can vaporize the **** out of everything, destroy the world, but can be stopped by stairs.

New Song: Frobisher Bay
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v92/greenabsinthe/listen.jpg) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhOXMGk3Kn4)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XhOXMGk3Kn4
Worked really hard on this one. It's a Canadian song called Frobisher Bay about whalers stuck in the north. Unfortunately video and audio became a bit misaligned, but whatever...close your eyes or something.
-
Goddamn, you have a beautiful voice.
-
Thanks guys :)
-
Wow awesome stuff!
-
Amazing one...very nice....but make the nose quite dark.....it will make he pic more beautiful....
-
What now?
-
I think he might referring to one of the sprites or something. Or could be a bot.
-
"________________________
Air Conditioning"
I would say bot.
-
So did this costume this summer. I meant to improve it but I got lazy. And busy with real life.
I wanted to go with a more American theme this time. The skirt was modified from a regular straight skirt pattern. I made two layers (the first was an old-west like brown cotton with small flowers, the second was purple...not sure what kind of fabric). On both layers I made 3 vertical holes in the skirt and used some ribbon to hoist them up and give them more shape. I cut the bottom off of a shirt that did not fit and used that as an underlayer for the corset which is just a regular cheap red corset turned inside out. Leftover fabric was used for a handkerchief. Guns were left at home because we had to go to an island on a boat and you're not allowed to bring weapon-like things.
Group shots so you can see everyone's costume. Btw, the evil doctor's costume is really sick in person- the gun and gloves even light up.
Steampunk ladies
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v92/greenabsinthe/steampunk4.jpg)
More Steampunk ladies
And now for my friend and I frolicking like it's 1899.
(There's actually someone in the back seat. Thus, the floating hand)
-
Goggles and glasses? One of your steampunk ladies needs to make up her mind.
-
Goggles and glasses obviously serve different purposes
So true.
-
The goggles are there for purely awesome.
-
Prescription goggles. Do it.
Also, there's a male-counterpart to glasses/goggles lady.
-
The guy with the robo-arm.
-
The guy with a Black Hat, Robo-Hand and Gun also have both Goggles and Glasses.
I suppose they didn't want to sacrifice their clear view just for the look, though they could've removed just for the pictures. However, since they look awesome and all, they are forgiven.
-
There's no rule that says you can't wear goggles over glasses- your goggles might not be perscription.
-
I have a friend who would cream himself if he could go to something like this.
-
I find it awesome because I know they're all nerds doing what they love and I wish I could be a nerd doing what he loves, but I honestly don't really like Steampunk all that much. :/
Go dress up as a Parasect with a chimney, goggles and mechanic claws.
-
New song! (ish...well...I just wanted to see if I could do it so I recorded it in one shot)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPwdanA46IQ
-
So...made this dress for the gala opening of a Steampunk exhibit at the local science centre.
The skirt is four layers (one layer of tulle, one layer of cotton, one layer of some weird blue fabric with silver stars on it, and a silver organza meant for drapery. Was finishing it right up to the point when I left, so the bottom is actually unfinished xD. Luckily it didn't unravel.

-
Very pretty. How long did it take you to make it?
-
Hot damn, more pics of my favorite-gendered version of myself!
I'm really impressed by the dress. It's certainly better than the horrible green mess I would have baked up if I were in your shoes.
-
It took about two nights, three if you include shopping for fabric.
And reverse-gender-me, I would pay good money to see what horrible green mess you would bake up
-
Made this dress in a day for the Steampunk Expo here. Unfortunately this was taken the day that my corset broke and I had to use the belt to hold it together so the top looks a bit funny. But yeah, just...pretend it's not like that XD
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v92/greenabsinthe/plaiddress.jpg)
Also this one but there aren't really good pictures of it. The clearest is this one but my scarf was screwed up and covers most of it. This took about a week.
All in all, proud of work :D.
-
You really have a talent for costuming.
These're all awesome.
...dammit, why do all of my compliments sound insincere.
-
What, you haven't noticed that by now?
-
Gotta say that the belt photo looks really classy.
-
Those costumes look great. Really digging the giant scarf.
-
New Song!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5clSOtY7fJs&
-
Still unfairly good. If I could sing (well, well), I'd be doing it all night long.
Ladies, of course. Chicks dig singly men.
-
Single men? Or men who sing? XD

Hopefully will be able to get better pictures of this taken later. Made the skirt and hat (shirt is from Goodwill), it's for a summer picnic event here in Toronto.
Was sort of hesitant to mix into the 1860s style since it involves a lot of big skirts and bonnet-like hats. I find the loli thing a little uncomfortable, and was worried that it would come off that way. Luckily, after putting it all together I still look like a woman in her twenties, and not a six year old. Yay!
-
I guess it's sort of hard to see the full outfit so it's looking a little retro. I'll try to get some full pictures taken when I go to the picnic. The skirt is actually humungous and floor length.
-
I think it looks good. It looks a little formal, but you seem to be making it work.
-
It looks a little formal
*Did I mention this is a Steampunk picnic? Victorian attire XD.
-
Don't recall you mentioning that, but I figured as much.
-
Damn, Zerl, your voice is adorable.
-
Thanks! :D
Okay, as promised, some photos of my picnic dress. The first two were collected off of facebook.

So my friends and I were hanging out at the waterfront and happened to have costumes...none of which went together...
long story short, here's a weird film that we made up as we went along that was actually highly enjoyable to make.
Basically, I wake up and have been magically teleported to Harbour Front (yep), and meet a bunch of people.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Jc_4F7QIZE&
-
How do you go hang out with your friends and happen to show up in a hot dog costume?
-
She didn't show up in it, she had it
-
Well, even still. It seems like an awfully strange item to just have on you.

Video I shot with a friend yesterday. For anyone whose ever had to share a washroom with their girlfriend or boyfriend...
