Title: A request... but not for graphics.
Post by: schilcote on October 14, 2009, 09:42:29 PM
This is a request, but I don't want anything graphical right now. That comes later. Right now I need the other side of an RPG, I need a storyline. I need characters. I'd appreciate if you kept your more specific and game-mechanical ideas down to a beginner level, because I'm a beginner. I'd like some plot ideas, and perhaps some characters (if you do submit a character, then it would be nice, but not required, if you would include a graphic with it). I really want to get into RPG making, but my graphical skill is 0, and my storyline skill is not too high either. I really only have one storyline and one character for any fiction I do, and they're not really that good.

So, who's got an idea?

So you want us to make a plot for you now, and characters for you later? And then you are going to code it with a pre made engine? Not trying to be an ***, but what do you plan on actually doing on your game?
I agree with Lucas, what are you actually going to contribute to the game? Its your game, if your just starting to use RPG Maker then it shouldnt matter about how indepth your storyline is because you are just learning to work it just keep practising and you will eventually manage to craete it yourself, you should just use this one storyline you have just now and devlop it as you go along the game

Try playing some old SNES rpgs on an emulator, that was my main pasttime when I started using rpg maker and found charas in 2003 and you can nibble some stuff from there.

I can HELP you with characters and story, but I won't do everything for you. That's not what Charas is and it'd only hurt you in the long run. :/

I never asked for anyone to do the whole thing for me, I just asked for an extended idea (more than just an idea, but not the whole thing). And perhaps some characters someone would like to unload onto me.

I would need to know what you already have if I were to help extend the plot.

And plus, people really don't want to give up the characters they made.  Try using characters from movies, change the names and personalities a bit and work them somehow.

Well, I don't have anything.

Actually, I think I may have stumbled across a good plot line. I can include some elements of humor, and its actually a pretty interesting story. So I'll go with that.

Listen to some music, look at some cool games like FF 10 and get a bit of inspiration :D

Suffice to say, no one is going to write your story for you.

If you're new at writing, I'd suggest familiarizing yourself with Joseph Campbell. It might be too much to read his full work, but you can always check wikipedia:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hero%27s_journey

It seems like a lot at first, but really read it, and familiarize yourself with the framework. You don't necessarily have to follow it, but if you don't have much experience, it's a good place to start. Hollywood follows it most of the time (Star Wars, for example), as do many books.

EDIT: Just noticed that you found a concept- that's great! Read Campbell anyway :P It will help you a ton as you flesh out your story.

What you could do is have your character like quest for an object that like either has very evil powers or can end up saving the world from evil.. I don't think that one has been done so I'll let you take it from there.
