I don't mean offence by this but... It's totally uninteresting. There is nothing really going for this, it's basically action scenes made of Metal Slug sprites with a loosely woven plot tacked on.

Yeah, there's not much going for this comic. Though I never was much for a sprite comic, this one doesn't got much entertainment value. Sorry.

X_marks_the_ed: im still working on my dude comic, but progress has been pretty slow lately. Ive probably got another 6 pages you guys haven't seen.

Lucas: I didnt want to spend hours on a fancy logo for a little comic series.

Their is some surprises around the corner, I started off with Action but the comedy is coming.

Good sir, Soldiers are not special armies.  They compose, and will likely continue to furnish the entirety, in some carnation, of every military force that has ever existed.

In Final fantasy 7, cloud joins a group called Soldier.

Mines a similar idea, so your point becomes moot :P

The Special army formed was called "Soldier" and yes... you are right... its full of soldiers :P

There's also only one black character, a villain who is basically Sheltem from Might and Magic, only not as cool and even less back-story, (but just as robotic!) and a plot built on the literary premise of Deus Ex Machina.  And I've only scratched the surface of how very stupid the entirety of Final Fantasy is.

Your point has become moot.

Sorry, ive got a typing issue i started to develop lately where i capitolize random words. Ill try to keep this to a minimum.

Sock Account: Im 23 almost 24 and have been swearing for years. Over-all im trying to keep the swearing to a minimum (believe it or not) since alot of people don't like it.

Also im hoping to bring atleast 1 new Strip per day, so stay tuned as the story develops.

No, mebe it wasn't.

You know, because that particular onomatopoeia happens to be pretty common about bowed weapons. Particularly if they're firing for any reason, intentional or otherwise.

Looks nothing like Archem.....Also your comics are random and odd....Most sprite comics have custom sprites, even badly done ones are better than stock sprites. :/ The only good one I can remember is the DQ one, it mostly used all the old DQ1 sprites, but it had good humor....Sorry dude, you need to practice. Interesting fact: I've always wanted to try doing a sprite comic, but never got the time/thought up enough funny material to do so.

Doesn't that make what i'm doing a little more commendable.

Quote
onomatopoeia
1.    the formation of a word, as cuckoo or boom, by imitation of a sound made by or associated with its referent.
2.    a word so formed.
3.    Rhetoric. the use of imitative and naturally suggestive words for rhetorical effect.

Interesting Archem. I learned stuff. Although still debating if you used the word properly

He used it correctly.

Quote

Imitating the sound a crossbow makes when firing a bolt, resulting in the word 'twang.'

I used it correctly. I know my vocabulary well enough. Quite simply, any sound effect word is an onomatopoeia. And vice versa. "Boom", "kapow", "zoom", and the like are all qualified. "Twang" is not an exception.

Constructive criticism eh? The dialogue bores me, make it less robotic, less cussing for the sake of cussing. Honestly, I have a hard time figuring out the plot in it. And a Chrono Trigger/Metal Slug crossover... Erm... Must I?

Yeah I would have given it even money too, but no dice. They don't match.

Anyway, at least some of the comics were funny (I don't care what these fools say; that Archem comic was freakin' hilarious) but the true comic value of this thread is watching a bunch of trolls try to find new and desperate ways to keep trolling. If we had any sort of active mod in this forum Archem and co would have been given at least a couple warnings by now to shut the hell up if they don't have anything constructive to say. I'm too lazy to play full babysitter, but consider the warning said guys. Don't like the comics that much? Don't read them and stop making fun. Period. If I come back to this thread in a couple of days and you guys are still ripping on him I won't be very pleased, which is probably implying a day or two temp ban.
Title: Re: Metal Sprite (Comic Series)
Post by: Archem on October 24, 2009, 02:50:00 AM
Hmm? I didn't really see any of the objections as being very heavy-handed. Perhaps I should review the posts, but to me, it didn't seem like anyone was being overly-aggressive.

Perhaps a bit blunt, but not terribly trollish. Anyway, I suddenly have work to do.

EDIT: Aaaand I still don't see much that could be considered "abuse". Perhaps the sarcasm wasn't laid on thick enough, and hostile undertones leaked through. Although, I'm starting to see that I'm being viewed as an aggressor, despite being relatively benign for once. Pretty weird, I think.

EDIT SOME MORE: Hey guys, boss says I gotta keep you in line. Henceforth, I'll be editing any posts that can be seen as undesirable. No more conversation unless it relates to these comics and how to make them better. I'll start.

*Ahem*

Story looks like it's going downhill from here. Adding Chrono Trigger to Metal Slug seems very unlikely to work, and is terribly inconsistent. The humor seems to be a bit dull, and a few too many jokes are terribly over-used, often to the point where they may have been funny once, but are not anymore.

Ok, someone else's turn.
Title: Re: Metal Sprite (Comic Series)
Post by: Darkfox on October 24, 2009, 04:26:25 AM
Well, I get a bit thrown off by the random cussing. Quite a few of the jokes seems forced, like Marle shooting Crono, there was no lead-in for that to be a pun, if it were expanded, perhaps that Chrono had something on his head or in his hand and Marle missed, then a reaction shot from the villains would have given a bit more impact on the joke there. The Archem comic was funny to me and didn't seem like it was really OOC, which made it funny.

Also, I figured out what it is called (I think) with Dhalsim hitting himself in the back of the head with his own foot, isn't that called a "comical loop"? Also, and not to sound like I'm bashing, but the CT joke also didn't get a lead-in, it just kinda happened out of the blue. I like random and all but what is the CT and MS connection? All-in-all the humor can use an upgrade, I gave a few suggestions in there.

Edit: Just stay clear of making it several action scenes. I'm kinda thinking the more interaction scenes the better and not making it a constant battle. Seriousness makes it feel more like a fanfic than a comic, you know? Not so much a hate from me, but I legitimately get confused on things, or thrown off by the earlier long streams of action scenes. I'm actually glad your putting in more interaction scenes.

Who the hell deleted my post. Damn, thats abusing their powers.
I said 'it was not that funny'.
Thats not trolling.
For god's sake.
Wasn't me. I totally think it wasn't funny.

Mostly because you used a phony name*, and didn't have much of a joke past that. Here's a little bit of advice: If you think something is funny, write it down. In a day or two, look at it again, and ask yourself if it's genuinely funny. If it's still funny, it's good to go. Otherwise, it's not worth making public. Also, asking other people how they feel about it can help. I'm fairly sure that your sense of humor may have an impact on just how funny your jokes are. You seem to have an immature sense of humor. I don't mean this as in "you like fart jokes and swear words" (although perhaps you do), I mean it as in "this is underdeveloped and needs time and proper influence before it can be respectable". You also seem to be forcing jokes into a lot of places. Comedy doesn't work that way. Oh, and using words incorrectly (like with the "boomerang" fiasco) can make the joke less funny to anyone who catches your slip. It's ok if you're using this as practice, but remember that you don't have to share everything you make. Some things are better left to rot in a dark hole.

*My inner-nerd doesn't agree with this type of thing very well.

My, you sure have the guts to become something man. You don't let anything bring you down and you work your best to improve. Immunity to arses 100%.

Kudos to you.

On a more artistic note - try to custom make some sprites, ot at least edit the existing ones more.
You pretty much have a bunch of mixed sprites from different games at the moment. Try to make them all match as one.

You sure dont anymore. Were slotted to get married in February. Your welcome to come Lucas.

Uh... Erm... *asplodes*

No, I was giving you a tip, you moron. Look, if you want to keep doing a crappy comic and ignoring ALL criticism that is thrown at you... Then please, go ahead. But stop being such a jerk. Believe or not me and archem actually tried to help you at some point yet you just ignored us and started to make those not funny at all jokes about us and pretending to be cool. Guess what, its not funny, you dont look cool, and now the few people who would bother checking this thread probably wont anymore, because you are retarded. Yeah.

I dare someone to delete this post. Its not ****ing trolling, I am just letting JohnAxe know that his indirect agression towards me and archem is not working. Unless his point was getting me to tell him to shut up.

*reforms* I got to say, I agree. The criticisms started out light and then the rejection of them and critical response to it has led to this fiasco we have now. Seriously, if you want to get better, then do what Zerlina said. Think on jokes and do not rush yourself.

Modded. Quit it, homos. I know, I said I was done with this thread, but this is getting out of control.

Go back on-topic. RockJohn, Take criticism and, more importantly, sarcasm better, and don't bother posting anything unless it's useful. Seriously. Deleting anything else from here on out that's in any way inflammatory.

I make one douche comment back to you and y'all freak out.

How about you don't make ANY douche comments, period. It's one thing for me to call for people to lay off you when you're just making comics innocently enough. It's another thing for me to discipline my staff when you too are being a jerk right back. Frankly, I like the staff more than I like you.

This topic is dangerously close to being shut down for good. So I strongly recommend you get back to your sprite comics and don't try to give anyone a "taste of their own medicine" again, for your own sake.

RockJohn, I warned you. You're looking for trouble, now. Quit it, make more of your comics, and stop making a dick of yourself.

Sai's got a point, Rock, you are getting to the point of flaming and we don't tolerate threads like that here. Now please go back to make comics. Btw I thought the last one was better than the others. Here's a tip: Pyshical comedy is great, but when combined with puns and jokes it's way, way better XD It's what makes the Simpson's such a good show, understand?

Nothing I deleted had any form of sincere apology in it.

Now then, let's drop this completely. Seriously. Stop beating the dead horse here.

(facedesks) Are you ****ing kidding me? SRLY? If no one has **** to say that is nice, DO NOT POST HERE. Even if it's a "I dun like it." Just stop & let the thread die on it's own. You honestly cannot expect someone to respect your "critique" after you've basically spent 3-4 pages insulting them.

Next toe out of line will be banned. This goes for the entire forum. If you ain't gonna help, then do not post here. If you're gonna be disrespectful to every person you "dislike" then leave. If we catch this **** again, do not be surprised when you can't sign in. -_-

Its all true.
And for the record, its a general feeling among the staff...not just with mid.

If you cant post without flaming, then dont.
Expect a revamp in rules and policies in the near future.
Its become evident that the staff is going to have to actually enforce the rules with some bans and such.

If youve been spoken to in private, or otherwise about your conduct in the recent past, then you would be wise to check yoself.

This is a problem that effects a few of our subforums in particular.

We have some global rules here, sure...
but its the forum specific rules that are being broken the most. Read them. Know them. Obey them....or gtfo

Progress will be slow but still happening. Ive recently taken on a job doing some art for a friends band.

Not to go against what midnight said, i personally dont mind if you dont like something, i just prefer some reason why you didnt like it so i can try to improve.
