Just trying to make some small talk here, but it's a question that's probably been asked time and again, yet I ask it now: For the artists in this place, do you prefer traditional or digital art? I'm kinda an old flunkie myself, so I usually prefer keeping to the traditional ways of art, though I have been slowly getting into pixel art.
-
Just to be sure, you're asking about art on a canvas with paints, oils, pastels, ect. versus anything that requires a monitor or printer to view, right?
I feel like it's obvious, but your post assumes a few things and leaves some parts a little vague.
Either way, I prefer anything digital, simply because of the beauty of CTRL+Z. Fast, easy, and a perfect erase.
-
I draw with pencil and paper and I work with digital. I have no immediate preference over another.

Yeah, that's pretty much what I meant. Draw by hand or draw by computer, to put simply.
And if this does belong in the All of All section, a mod can feel free to move it. I just thought it could be discussed here.
-
I think it's alright here, as it's a discussion of the creative arts.
So it stays here

I have a tablet.
Ah. That explains some stuff...
Me? I like MS Paint.
-
I love my tablet and its undo copy pastyness
but there are things I can do with "traditional" mediums that beat digital at times.
Likewise, give me some spray cans and Im a happy guy too.
-
Traditional for casual or entertainment, digital for publishable work.
-
I think it's more easier to use traditional art, you just seemed to have more control using a pencil then you do with a mouse.
Unfortunatly, I can't afford a scanner... so I've alwaysed had to stick with paint anyway...

Yes, this is true. Also, the inability to CTRL + Z/X/C with traditional methods make for more effective and efficient learning.

I still find it satisfying to splotch random paint marks on a canvas/paper. Or just say "SCREW IT!" and dump the paint all over the surface.
-
Nah, it's cheap tempera or acrylic paint.
Then there's random marker lines on paper. Even more satisfying if said piece of paper is a test you failed.
-
Nah
I think he meant "comparatively speaking", and versus the standard drawing tool (pencils, crayons, etc.).
.

above posts
So you throw random lines and splotches on things and call it art eh? Youre one of THEM. lol
Branch off. Youll thank me for it later.
you show a disgusting lack of respect for your materials. Sounds like you enjoy the "making a mess" part more then the actual process. Good acryllic is not cheap. Nor is Good Tempera. But I suspect that your parents, or school, or your group home's occupational therapist is/are footing the bill for your waste...so I wont hold it against you
Ive never been a fan of the random thing with artwork. Sure, some people can pull it off, but it shows a lack of deliberation...lack of cognition perhaps. I like to try and have a cohesive idea of what my subject is before I draw it. More prescisely, I think of a mood first, then subject, then plan my exceution via rough sketches and a good copy.
"publishable work" should not be determined by your medium, but your commitment to mastery of the medium.
-
No, it isn't art. It's a way to let off steam without kicking the dog down the stairs or throwing the fine china across the room.
And the paint is complete crap.
But maybe you're right. It is a waste of resources that could be better spent making something worthwhile in the long run.
Now excuse me, my batteries have a 6% charge.
-
I like drawing by hand and colouring digitally, or else doing pixel art purely on the comp.
Just wondering since most of you said you have tablets, is it worth the price? Or is it something you end up using if you happen to have it (from siblings, presents, parents etc) but wouldn't go out of your way to get? Does it take a lot of getting used to or is it fairly like hand drawing?

Im on my third cheap one.
Im going to by this soon

$999? That's like the maximum my wallet can hold.
-
I'm cel-shaded, and can hold about $9999.
The problem is, I'm always wasting that money on bombs and arrows.

I hear if you go to the zoo and take two steps forward, teleport to the old cave, then surf up and down along the coast line, you'll get infinite bombs and arrows.
Or mewtwos, I can't remember.

I prefer "traditional" art, mostly due to the actual look of texture in the canvas/paper/whatever the hell you're doing, and the fact that I just respect the fact that you can't CTRL+Z it a bit more.
That being said, digital art rawks a mighty large one too.
...
That was a horrible um...whatever the word is.
-
I do lean more towards traditional these days it seems. I've been in a slump so I'm trying to do more.
-
I prefer digital arts lately since I can Undo my mistakes. Also I can copy parts and such.
Another good thing is that you don't see the lines after erasing - it totally screws a good picture.
And yes. I'm a MS paint man. A right-clicka.
BUT : when it comes to exhibition and such in museums and such - traditional art. It's just sad when you can see pixels in a painting.

a refurbished cintiq goes for around 6-8 hundred canadian bucks. Ive got just shy of ten grand coming my way sometime in the next year...when that day comes, a sweet *** desktop, a cintiq, and a **** ton of beer. then the rest will go toward responsible things. My financial managment skills are sub-par.

Persoanly I love both, but I prefer digital. I can do all sorts of stuff with it that I can't do on my sketch pad. Though not so much since I lost my Paintshop Pro..... :/
