Title: Drinking just to get drunk.
Post by: Grandy on December 22, 2009, 03:26:19 PM
Many friends of mine do that.

 In fact, all of them.

 What's the point?

Simply because it's been denied to them for so long (hopefully), they get the feeling of freedom from the experience.

Or they're stupid. Either way works.

I say they are stupid. They contracted one of the many form of Human Stupidity Syndrome.
Be careful, it may be contagious, and there are no real cure for this.

I do that once and a while, and I really don't see anything wrong with it. As long as you're safe (as in you don't drive or anything) and you don't do it very often, its not  bad for you. It's just all in good fun. Its like skydiving, its very dangerous, and it doesn't really has a purpose, but its fun so why not do it? Getting drunk from time to time and having a good time is fun too, and as long as people don't do it every day or do stupid things while drinking, then I say go for it.

I dunno honestly I can't remember why I have ever drank except for when I was n Europe.
Social drinking I guess.

In fact in America I have drank just to drink but not because it was denied and I can't really think of a reason though sadly I have never been able to get drunk though I tried twice but I couldn't.

I don't get what's so great in having artificial fun.
And anyway, what's so "fun" in falling everywhere, talking in an unclear manner and vomiting?
I guess I'd have to try to understand, but... I just don't see the point.

I have never done any of those 3 when I drank.

Many people do, though, yet they seem to have fun with it.

My parents allow me to drink alchohol if I wanted to. I rarely do, only on holidays and not much. I've told this to many kids and they told me that they do it because they aren't allowed to. Stupid people get a thill out of breaking the rules or think they're making someone mad. But thankfully, it kills them much faster. And the rapid death of stupid people is something the world needs more of

I don't drink at all, but I don't have a problem with it. Sad truth is, some people just aren't interesting without a little (or a lottle) sauce in 'em.

EDIT: Plus without the stuff I'd never get laid. So DRINK UP OKAY.

I'm partial to scotch.  But if I have more than a few sips, I get somewhat woozy.  I have very low alcohol tolerance now...

This is assuming there are GOOD drunk people. My brother-in-law is a sensible guy usually, but him+alcohol, dear Lord... you got to get out. O_O I've never seen him get violent, but he is really short tempered. "WHERE DO YOU THINK YOUR GOING!? YOUR STAYING HERE! DON'T INTERRUPT ME! SHUT UP!"

So I sit down quietly next to my nephew waiting for a chance to escape.

Drink? Alcohol? I disinfect my damn hands with that.

My parents literally let me taste beer like three times in my life; twice when I was very young, which established to me that beer tasted HORRIBLE, and once when I was older; I was wondering, perhaps the taste of beer had somehow mellowed down for me since I had now grown up or something. I asked, they let me. NOPE. Still the rancid, bitter, almost burning sensation of my mouth. I shall let the foolish continue to drink the sour water of sluggishness.

Going to a party school, this means that I have a distinct advantage over everyone in academics.

Seeing as at least half the board is under age here, this is a slightly strange topic.

A part of it is that being drunk is a way to lose your inhibitions. There are many more things that people do when drunk they would NEVER do when sober, and the fact is, they NEED that release. It comes down to allowing yourself to have fun and not worry about the consequences.

When you're drunk, other drunk people are hilarious and really cool to hang out with, but when you're sober, they make you hate the thought of ever drinking again... (Trust me... I work at a McDonald's in the downtown (read: drinking) district)

While I also don't drink, I personally do not enjoy the feeling of being drunk. There are other ways for me to lose my inhibitions that I prefer.

Or they're stupid. Either way works.

It's all peer pressure. Living in a Fraternity house, I've watched countless people walk in, claiming they wont drink until their 21 or ever. 90% of these kids however DO end drinking within the semester. The fact that they drink to get drunk is because of the examples around them, people playing drinking games, people stumbling all over, passing out and vomiting, they get the idea in their head that this IS to drink, and because of that follow in suit. Now, you guys were discussing a higher demographic; most of these habits probably don't go away in their adult lives. Simply because people are taught it's alright to binge drink by their peers, they don't know any better and just follow suit.

Just my thoughts on it.

Beer is nasty.
Only drink I've ever had and actually felt a desire to drink again was a White Russian.

I love drinking, depending on your amount of experience, tolerance and how mentally retarded you are, it can balance out greatly. I have fun being sort of intoxicated, makes everything me and my friends do that bit funnier to make it truly epic. The kind of drinking you do just to fall the **** dead and wake up two days after with two new tattoos, shaved head and a vodka bottle up your *** is nothing more than idiotic. Sadly most idiots drink this way, it makes it look horrible and alot of people are afraid to try anything out.

Oh and beer tastes like ****

They got limitless ammounts of vodka stached away in their rooms.

Its funny, a lot of you are talking about how people get violent, stumble, puke, and just do stupid things when people drink. I must ask, how often are you around drunk people? Thats the what the media portrays drunks as, and yes, there are a few people like that, but out of all the parties I have gone to, I have only ran into one violent drunk, very few people that have puked, and generally nothing really 'stupid' has happened.

I also think its funny that most of the people who are saying 'drinking is horrible' or 'drinking is stupid' have never tried it for themselves. I'm not saying that everyone should drink, but you can't know how it affects you until you try it for yourself.

And on a final note, I believe everyone has a right do what makes them happy as long as they're not hurting anyone else in the process. Granted, being drunk all the time is probably not a good way to be happy, if someone enjoys it, who has the right to say they can't? On a more practical level, say someone enjoys the occasional party, maybe once or twice a month, do any of you really have the right to condemn that activity? Drinking once a month will not hurt your body in any significant way, and if you're responsible about it, it won't hurt anyone else either. I hope none of you are foolish enough to think YOU have the right to say what people should or shouldn't do to have fun in these circumstances.

Well, it is a pseudo-happy in that is a chemical induced sensation of well-being followed by an eventual crash. And that alcohol is THE #1 most abused substance in the world. So there is some logical right-away to assign negative connotations toward it.

All in all, it is sort of like getting "high", it is a pseudo-happiness. A faux joyfulness that will last until it drains from the system attaining then a "need" to regain that "high". Similarly caffeine has this effect as well, and I am a victim of caffeine addiction.

And admittedly, I have drank. Not the funnest time of my life.

Post by: DragonBlaze on December 23, 2009, 09:22:06 PM
Why does it matter "how" it makes you happy as long as it does? Yes, if you abuse it, you may become dependent on it, but drinking occasionally will not make you crash or feel like you need to do it again. I don't know where you heard that once the alcohol leaves your system you feel the need to have more alcohol to make you happy again, but its not true. You're talking about an alcoholic, not an average person that drinks.

I don't think anyone here will disagree that alcoholism is bad, but getting drunk is not the same thing.

I am happy 95% of the time, yet I'm not drunk 95% of the time, hmmm...

Oh, that I agree with you. But everyone has the right to find it stupid (or not) as well.

If some guy's fun is to punch his wall until his fists are broken, it's his own business, as long as he doesn't punch people until their face are broken. But damn, that would be stupid.

So if some guy's fun is to drink until he gets drunk, it's his own business, as long as he doesn't drive or disturb people. But I personally think it's stupid (although sometimes, it depends on the circumstances).

All in all, it is sort of like getting "high", it is a pseudo-happiness.

I call it "Artificial Fun or happiness".

The reason why people go to places and get drunk is because they have no fun games to play.
OR they lack the friends to play games with.

DB got my point a lot better.

And he's right, not a lot of people are like that. Being 22, ALL my friends get drunk on the weekends, and none of them are violent, or puke. The only thing they do is get really loud. I've noticed that people are more often just shouting, which is annoying, but violence and puking is less common.

There is a huge difference in maturity when it comes to drinking. People that live in my house ARE the obnoxious, loud, vomiting types that it dreads me to even associate with; on the other-hand, my personal selection of friends are calm, and social about it. Really depends on the situation and maturity of the people doing it, I'd say. A lot has to do with peer-pressure, the age-old excuse.

Well, last time they get drunk without me to act as Jimmy Cricket, all 6 of my friends decided it'd be a good idea to invade a school and break all the windows, and they'd have succeded to were not for the security guard.

I don't drink much anymore. A beer or two at parties, maybe a mixed drink. But man, I used to be really bad... or good. Depends on how you look at it.
