Title: Before The Crash - Out of MIDI and into MP3
Post by: drenrin2120 on February 03, 2010, 01:18:27 AM
I'm working on some mostly experimental projects here.

1. I write the bare bones of a song in Anvil Studios.
2. I edit it in a version of Magix. Adding pans, crescendos/decrescendos, pitch bends, etc...
3. I upload MIDI file to Synth Font and add better sounding fonts. Specifically, drums.
4. I record each track individually in Audacity.
5. I record Guitar and vocals as MIDI guitar sounds like **** and vocals... well you kinda have to record that. Microsoft Sam just won't cut it!
6. Tweak volumes, then export as MP3.

Done! So far I have only two songs done. One with guitar. Neither of them have vocals, as I'm nervous and recording vocals is rough at the moment. I line in the guitar, so it's not the best. I want to get a decent condenser mic, but I'm strapped for cash. Also, if anyone knows of a good and FREE program that lets me tweak midis events such as putting in loops, adding pans, crescendos/decrescendos, I would very much appreciate a link.

Anyways, here's the link to my myspace page with the two songs I've recorded. I've dubbed my solo project...
Before the Crash (http://www.myspace.com/beforethecrash2120)!

Tah dah!

It's good, but personally, I loathe ska.

Thanks. I'll have some other things you may like more. I just hate the sound I'm getting from lining in.

I really like it. I like the mixed sound of the Realistic guitar with the very midi style noises. I find they are mixed very well. I also enjoy the constant beat and fairly fast overall pace.

Keep em coming :D

Thanks guys glad you like 'em. I know the guitar isn't the greatest.

I uploaded another song. It's just kind of a demo. The guitar work is spotty at best in some parts and the intonation needs to be fixed, so higher notes may sound a bit out of tune. Soooo, yeah. It's called fun, check it out on the myspace page and tell me what you think.

P.S: Archem, you're gonna LOVE this one sooooo much.

Hey now, you're not allowed to be sarcastic. Stop it.

But yeah, good.

Aloha!

I like it a lot!  lol, you have to go through a lot of programs hu?  I use anvil for a raw midi composer as well. I'm stuck on reason 4. oh em gee. You should get reason 4, it'd solve half (or maybe all) of your synth problems.

I like the progression for "Perennial anthem". I personally like a walkier bass, but considering the punk beat, it's not as easy. rawr, my 5 string schecter is my baby =3
I'd also like to see a more melodic solo somewhere.

but these are pickings. great job over all ;)

EDIT: Eastern scales ftw!

Thanks Carmen! I haven't seen you around here since I joined back five years ago. May I ask what exactly you mean by stuck on reason 4 and to fix it? Also, I prefer a bass that doesn't sound like crap myself, but finding good synth has been a problem for me. I'm glad you like perennial anthem, I wish I could do it better justice. =P

reason 4 is like the ultimate synth software. it's like photoshop-for synth. It's made my Propeller head, try googling some videos.
Basically, you can get professional sounding samples and raw synths from it. In fact, I'm pretty sure prodigy uses it.

it's a four hundred dollar program, but you can...pick it up, if you know what I mean.

Here's a Link to the site:

Oh... reason 4 is a program? oh! I was so ****ing confused. I kept looking up at the fourth thing I listed and couldn't figure out what you were trying to tell me. lol this looks interesting I'm gonna look into more. Thanks for the link!
