So the Halo: Reach beta starts Monday. Who's excited for that? I sure was.
Now, I'm pretty pissed. My Xbox went and E 74'd on me. That means it fucked up, and I need to send it in for repairs.
I can expect the shipping box to arrive in at least two business days. Of course, it took over a month from start to finish for me to have my Xbox repaired last time it had a hardware failure.
I ****ing hate this. Thank God my warranty is still good for this ****.

:O
-
Don't worry you'll probably be able to get it on every platform ever once it comes out. Lolactivision
-
No, M$ owns the Halo brand.
But yeah. This is what I get for being excited about stuff.

Turns out Bungie will drop Halo, and start developing new, multiplat IPs. A shitty inhouse studio of Microsoft will continue to develop (drive into the ground) Halo games.
-
Yeah, Microsoft own Halo. They have their own dudes doing it now, you may have read about them, <a href="http://halo.wikia.com/wiki/343_Industries">343 Industries</a>.
Bungie will not be doing any more Halo games unless Microsoft ask them to or something. I don't much faith in 343I but my point is you won't be seeing Halo on other consoles.
Marathon and Myst on the other hand...
Also I am pretty disappoint that Bungie have gone to hitler satan Activision especially after leaving Microsoft for "independance". What kind of joke is that even
-
Especially given the situation with Infinity Ward right now. God, I hope Activision loses those lawsuits.
-
Razor, what kind typing is that?
-
By the looks of things, I doubt you're missing much. It looks like Halo 3 with custom loadouts and terrible game balance. It is Halo: Future Warfare 2.
By the way, I hope you've all read this. (http://www.geeks.co.uk/7282-activision%E2%80%99s-bobby-kotick-hates-developers-innovation-cheap-games-you)
-
Surely, we're not looking at the same gameplay videos.
-
I prefer developer commentaries, it lets you know what kind of people you're dealing with. In this case, social retards and frat boys. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUv98eWVnL0)
They talk about game balance and then go on to say that one weapon is totally amazing and is the be-all-end-all way to win. That smacks of Modern Warfare 2.
I'm not saying I know what it's actually going to be like, or that you're wrong to look forward to it. I just think it looks underwhelming compared to the hype we've seen and heard. I might still buy it, but it probably won't be on release.
Customising your Spartan/Elite and using him in the campaign and the multiplayer is a pretty cool feature. I like that.
Microsoft will continue to develop (drive into the ground) Halo games.
It's still possible to do that with Halo? We're talking about piercing through the core of the earth at this point.
-
Four games over a span of a decade (five, if you count the RTS)? You seem to have a very different definition of "driving into the ground" than I have. It's not like this is Guitar Hero.
-
To me, there is only Halo: Combat Evolved. The others are cheap imitations.
-
Gaming companies need to learn to do games japanese style. You release 1-2 good games for each console and preferably wait more than 1 year between them.
I mean c'mon. Halo1, 2,3 that other game and now this? In what span of years? You don't make another game of a game unless you really make a new game. Otherwise you add expansion packs or updates. Jeysis.
Although Gears of War is worse. 3 games in the series on the same console.
-
Japanese style? You mean generic and of the same art style? Dude, they're already doing that!

While admittedly games are being released in far too rapid succession in some cases, Japan is the WORST example to use as positively. Their games, even with the massive development times, are the SAME ****ing GAMES. Rehashes of rehashes of rehashes.

Because every JRPG franchise has stuck to this formula, right?
Besides, having a limit to the number of games you can release per console is foolhardy. Take the current generation of consoles which are practically on a ten-year plan; is releasing 2 games in 10 years really going to be good for business?
-
Allright, allright. I change my statemant.
Gaming companies should do what Blizzard does.
You create a great game. Then some years later you make an expansion.
Then you create an MMORPG of said game and release some expansions after some years.
Then in the middle of things you start telling people that you are making the sequels of their two other best-selling titles that people have waited for since 2000 or earlier(Jeysis christ, there's been 10 years already since Lord of destruction?!).
So yeah, instead of butchering their series with lame sequels they like to reinvent it which might not be liked by the fans. BUT, since it happens about 10 years later they will look forward to the new game and changes.
Kinda like Super smash Melee vs Brawl didn't really work. There was like 6 years between but some people still prefer melee despite all changes.
-
So yeah, instead of butchering their series with lame sequels
Pretty sure they did that to Warcraft.
-
There's almost no such thing as a good example.
-
Then you create an MMORPG of said game and release some expansions after some years soul sucking game that everybody plays and has an insanely huge fanbase of fanchars, fanfics and RPs and some people even consider their avatars on as original characters that nearly rivals Sonic the Hedgehog ins such things.
Ah, I remember that.
-

This is also terrible. Several YEARS is a massive time, people will lose interest in the meantime.
-

But they didn't. That's the thing, you need to make it long but not too long.
Long enough that people are starting to lose interest in the old stuff but before they move on to a new game.
-
An exception doesn't set the rules.
-
But blizzard never fail!
(Except with the latest patches and expansions for wow that actually maked me NOT want to play it)

Is this a joke or what
Halo 1: 2001
Halo 2: 2004
Halo 3: 2007
Halo ODST: 2009
Halo Reach: 2010
And ODST was only really like, a mod of 3 which they released. And let's not mention Halo Wars. Ignoring ODST, it's been a brand new engine each time.
-
Thank you, Razor.

Just to compare:
Sonic 1: 1991
Sonic 2: 1992
Sonic CD: 1993
Sonic 3: 1994
Sonic and Knuckles: 1994
Sonic 4: Who the hell cares, It's probably going to do terrible anyway.
In short: There's no pattern or real recommendation about what or how you should space your sequels.

Halo 1 was only 2001?
Weird, I thought it was later.
...not sure WHEN, but...later.

And killing anything that was good about Warcraft the second they released WoW.

Right. Just make it good, and people won't care.
Unless it's Left4Dead 2...

Fantastic news! Microsoft emailed me a code for the Halo Reach beta! That means I don't need the ODST disk to install/play it!
However, I do need a working Xbox.
Who knows? Perhaps Microsoft is fixing my console as we speak! I'm sure they've got nothing better to do!

The Halo Reach gameplay videos all look stupid, like they totally ripped off Call of Duty. Although all of my friends who have played it say it's good, I have yet to play it and I don't think I will like it. I'm not a big Call of Duty fan in the first place, but I love me some Halo 3. Also Halo 2, but they took the online multi-player down =(
Personally, I'm waiting for Metal Gear Solid: Rising. I love MGO but don't have a PS3 of my own. Rising will be released for 360 and I assume that with it's release will come MGO 3.0. Also, Raiden is a lot cooler than people think he is. Not as cool as Snake or Big Boss, but...
-
Having played it with a friend twice, I can say that it doesn't feel like Call of Duty. Like, at all. It's still very Halo, but it's different enough to warrant a purchase from fans of previous games. A lot of people have been calling it "Halo: Tribes" due to it having a few similarities to the legendary PC game series.

If you want an actual Metal Gear Solid game, you should be looking to Peace Walker. It's going to have the next MGO. And notice they removed the "Tactical Espionage Action" from Rising and replaced it with "Lightning Fast Action"? It might end up good, but it sure as hell won't be a real MGS game. It's also worth noting Peace Walker was originally called Metal Gear Solid 5: Peace Walker.

According to Wikipedia and other sources, Hideo Kojima has confirmed that MGS Rising will be a sneaking game. He has also said that Rising will be "the next level" of MGS games. I've seen videos for Peace Walker, and while it does look like a good game, I don't think it will be the next true defining game in the MGS series, although Kojima did say that both Rising and Peace Walker will be the true "MGS 5" games. Also, Peace Walker is for the PSP, which I don't think would be able to handle the kind of content that a game similar to MGS 4would have (including MGO 2.0), especially as a 3-rd person shooter and with the pixelated graphics on the PSP that it has. Here's a really cool Peace Walker video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KWabyw5JArI), you'll see what I mean. If my dreams come true, in MGS Rising, you can be all sneaking around, CQCing dudes or if you want, bust out your HF Blade and slice them up like near the end of Sons of Liberty.
