In b4 somebody calls you out on having poor musical taste

Doing a quick Google search tells me that I would hate them with a passion.
Not even going to bother listening to them.

Gemini: So listening to the Beatles gives me poor musical taste? You shouldn't judge my entire taste in music simply because I favor one band that you may not particularly like. However the world is free and opinions come and go, so whatever.

Fruckfert: why?

Your sig reminds me of your Ubuntu thread. Stop forcing things on other people once you discover you're in love with it yourself.

That aside, I've heard, like, one of their songs. Not for me. It's just not my style.

To be honest, the sig wasn't supposed to taken seriously.

Im guessing you heard their song "Handlebars".

I didnt say I thought you had poor taste...Not in this thread.

I meant that flobots are generally disliked by people with good, or educated musical taste are probably going to go out of their way to verbalise how much the flobots  epitomize every flaw in contemporary comercial pop music today, and undermine the creative progession of music by following formulaic "alternative" pop-rock-hop.

Im saying that other people are going to say you have bad taste. Not me. Everyone else in the world who knows anything technical about what constituates 'good' music.

Not that I know anything about music. Oh wait....Nevermind.

To be honest, the sig wasn't supposed to taken seriously.
But the thread was, right?
"Handlebars".
Isn't that their only claim to fame?

/sarcasm*
*Just in case you couldn't figure that one out on your own

Jesus dude, your like my ELA Professor.

Anyways I respect their music for what their lyrics mean, not for the "pretty sounds" they make with their instruments and whatnot.
Compare this:

Lady GaGa - Paparazzi

Leather and jeans garage glamorous
Not sure what it means
But this photo of us it don't have a price
Ready for those flashing light
'Cause you know that baby I

I'm your biggest fan I'll follow you until you love me
Papa paparazzi
Baby there's no other superstar you know that I'll be
Your papa paparazzi

To this:

Flobots - Stand Up

Stand up
We shall not be moved
Except By a child with no socks and shoes
If you've got more to give then you've got to prove
Put your hands up and I'll copy you
Stand up We shall not be moved
Except by a woman dying from a loss of food
If you've got more to give then you've got to prove
Put your hands up and I'll copy you

See the difference?
But I see what you mean.

Went to their Myspace after searhcing google saw they did a song with Tim from Rise Against (a band I really liked when before they came out with Appeal To Reason)

The first song By The Time You Get This Message reminded me of "Cake - Going The Distance" sounded way to close to it that I'm convinced they ripped them off.
Listened to the next We Are Winning was like listneing to a old woman complain with background music.
Listened to Defend Atlantis better than the last two but still didn't like it like they try to talk more than sing unflattering voices. I only liked some of the female vocals but are by no means the best female vocals I have heard they are actually below normal. Listened to two more didn't like them still and gave up.
So no I don't like this band but i'm sure alot of what I listen to some of the  people here don't like so hey if you like them thats fine but I don't.

Everyone has their of prefence and taste.

Edit: Now off that your trying to defend them against people who don't really care what you say about them.
I admit to have listened and liked Lady Gaga's new cd since you decided to compare Flobots to her. No one really cares about the argument you made if they don't like the band.
So move on and don't care if people don't like them as long as you do and don't start a "music war".
Someone on here could say my favorite band sucks and I could spend hours to try to convince them when their opion would never change or say alright and move on.
So move on.

Dude, they dont have pretty sounds. Or particularly good lyrics. From what Ive read online, Its still pretty formulaic wanna-be-protester rhetoric. Its pretty contrived stuff. You should try not ever trying to convince me otherwise. Ive graduated my schooling, and experienced life and art and culture and all that. A bunch of white guys have nothing to complain about unless theyre just trying to fit in.

Damn pseudo hipsters. Go move to liberia and tell me how much you have to complain about in your current life

this man has a terrible voice

**** even lady gaga sounds better, trying to be DEEP AND MEANINGFUL with lyrics does not a good band make

**** even lady gaga sounds better

are you high?

And Nandez I appreciate that you at least listened to their music before drawing your conclusion on what you thought of them. Thank you.

I really just wanted to know who were fans of them not a whole essay on why they sucked or whatever.
Also, I'm 13. Calm down Gemini, my taste in music isn't going to be particularly wonderful.

Thanks for all of your opinions though.

Lady Gaga, from a technichal stand point, is doing a better job of things then flobots.

Not to mention, in 30 years, Ill bet people remember Lady Gaga and any effect she has on music to come, before they remember flobots
Title: Re: Flobots
Post by: ThexXtremeXx on June 04, 2010, 07:33:38 PM
She may be doing a better job but ask yourself why, Is it because of her musical talent?
Will they remember her for her lyrics?

Nope.

Now, let just let this thread die already okay?
Title: Re: Flobots
Post by: Ben on June 04, 2010, 09:07:52 PM
Lady Gaga was a DJ (and internationally recognized at that) for years and years before she went pro with the vocals. She obviously isnt writing her own songs, and I cant stand the stuff were force fed myself, but mixing beats and samples is not an activity that one can pull off without musical talent.  Dont start the thread if you dont want to hear what people think about something

Gemini. Stop replying.

Let the thread die or I'll just ask a moderator to lock this thread.

Thank you.

ThexXtremeXx, you really shouldn't threaten people who disagree with you.  Learn to respect differing opinions, and you'll go a lot further in life than otherwise. :)

I hadn't heard of Flobots before this thread, so I checked out a couple of their songs on Youtube.  I didn't really like what I heard.  When I listen to music, I like to hear those "pretty sounds" you seem to be scoffing at.  When you remove that from music, you're left with spoken word poetry.  I like poetry, but when I want to listen to music I expect musicality.

And since she's been mentioned too, I'll comment on Lady Gaga.  I didn't like her music when I first heard it, but now I'm a big fan.  She makes addictive dance music (which I love), and she's more than just a musical artist.  She has an image, and that's probably more than half of the reason for her fame.

I am a moderator, and I dont see any reason for the thread to be locked. Perhaps Im wrong, but I cant see any of the other staff locking this thread at the point that its at. There is no flaming, name calling, or anything... Just a discussion about music, which was kind of the topic of the thread dude.

Im Discussing the topic. Just because I disagree with you, is no reason to think your thread has derailed. Just chill man. Im discussing.
Title: Re: Flobots

Ahaha, phrases like "Just chill man" or "Calm down" are ALWAYS the fastest way to upset someone. :P

EDIT: Especially when they're already calm.  Try it some time! xD

And I at the moment do not care anymore for this topic. And I've asked you several times to simply stop replying and to let the thread die. Please, If you want to continue this discussion use PMs or make a new topic.

EDIT: It's not your disagreement but me not caring anymore.

You "do not care anymore for this topic," right?  Just stop posting then.  I suppose it's unfortunate it didn't go the way you wanted to, which I guess would've been a positive response to Flobots.  Why ON EARTH should anyone make a new topic to discuss this?  That's what THIS topic is for!
Title: Re: Flobots
Post by: Ben on June 04, 2010, 10:05:13 PM
Just because you create a topic does not mean you get to step in and tell everyone to stop posting when it turns in a direction you arent in agreeance with.  This is All of All, not your Game project thread, silly.

Hey Daetyrnis, youre a fan of the dance stuff then? I may have some suggestions depending on what flavours of dance or electro youre into. Not so much the poppy stuff, but I have some hidden gems
Title: Re: Flobots
Post by: Daetyrnis on June 04, 2010, 10:13:03 PM
I'm into a lot of dance music.  If I have to spit out genres, I guess I'll go with Hardcore, Hardstyle, Drum and Bass, and Dubstep.  If you're not into the "poppy" stuff, I guess I won't delve into my guilty pleasures of Eurodance and Happy Hardcore. xD

I'm into a lot more than I've spewed there, and new music is ALWAYS a a good thing.  I'm interested in your suggestions! :D

I'm going to see Lady Gaga August 27th Jesus christ those ticket were expensive. $225 per ticket luckily I didn't have to pay for either by friend got two and  gave me one to go with em for forgetting my birthday for the last 4 years XD
It should be interesting to see her live and her effect on music.

I would've bought a DS and few games instead. But hey, that's just me. If there was any band/singer I liked enough to go see live, maybe I'd pay that much for a ticket too.
Title: Re: Flobots

I wouldn't. It would have to be some epic band, like Led Zeppelin or something. Even then, I'd be expecting an amazing show and a couple hours worth of entertainment.

I paid 300 to see Iron Maiden. Im not putting lady gaga on the same shelf as Iron maiden by any means, but you can thank ticket master for these stupid prices. The truth is that ticketmaster is pocketing 90% of the ticket price. Scalping is ethically permissable theese days. The other 2 ticket I bought fetched me 500, so it paid for itself
