Title: Make Suggestions for an Awesome Game
Post by: Daetyrnis on June 04, 2010, 09:53:23 PM
I feel like giving Rm2k3 another go.  I want to make an amazing game that a large number of people will want to play.  Expect awesomeness.

Now, I'm looking for some suggestions while I'm still in the brainstorming stage.  I'm confident in saying that if something is possible in RPG Maker, I am capable of implementing it.  I've long since moved on to actual programming, but I love RPG Maker for it's ease-of-use (for certain things), and for the sheer nostalgia I get when using it. x)

So go ahead.  What would YOU like to see in an Rm2k3 game?  I'm all ears! n.n
A kindergarten class goes missing on a field trip.  The teacher goes on an epic evidence fetch quest to find out who the kidnapper is.  (The bus driver!)  Just as she gets the final piece, she is visited by the ghosts of the kids who tell her that the kidnapper used them as guinea pigs in order to test a new strain of zombie virus.  The scientist must be stopped before releasing a flood of intelligent zombies who wear protective headgear.  To do so, she must infiltrate the secret lair, fighting off millions of z's and giving new meaning to the word 'badass.'  Upon opening the door to the evil mastermind's room, she only finds a bomb labeled "Better luck next time."  The suspected bus driver had been framed from the beginning and is tied up next to the bomb.  After being untied, the bus driver says the only way his name will be cleared is if he sacrifices himself trying to stop the bomb from detonating.  The former teacher manages to get out before the entire base blows up.  The zombie apocalypse has been released anyway; the world is in chaos.

And this is where the story runs into a few snags...
In all seriousness, I want to see a game where the villain wins.  There aren't enough of those around.

One of the biggest things I value in RPG Maker games is originality and individuality; either in graphics, systems, music or story. Not everything has to be 100% custom, but I really think the games that deserve credit are the ones that shows the creator's own personal style.

I HATE overused sprites. I've never liked games that uses Starocean or Rudra sprites for the main heros. Not one... no exceptions.

I would always give points for custom menu systems or battle systems, especially since only DBS games actually get finished now-a-days  apparently. I would love to see more completed CBS games.

Of course, it takes alot of time and effort to make custom resources or systems for games, so it to be expected that a vast majority of people don't even bother. As long as you make some sort of effort to be orginal here, then you can count on me being interested.

Id like to see somebody make a fully functioning mario or megaman clone on RPGmaker. That would be impressive

I was thinking about playing a game where you play a detective and have to solve mysteries in a big city, with emphasis on gathering clues and solving riddles rather than combat. But I'm probably too lazy to ever make it.

You mean like, point and click adventure style, or free-roaming style?

Was going to be free roaming. Simplied "target and fire" combat for when force is necessary. The main idea was to make it so the player always had at least two options in any given situation, such as busting through the front door or breaking in a window, and the choices would affect the game slowly. So if you took a mobster alive instead of killing him than that would change things a little. I dunno. Never got all that far in the planning phase.

A story that doesn't fall short on terms of originality and length.

I've pretty much decided to go with the traditional RPG magically-infused Medieval-esque setting.  It's something I still enjoy to this day, and it's a lot easier to work with for a game that functions like an RPG.  Instead of being innovative in terms of story/setting, I intend to create a game that is fun to play.  To me, this means creating battle and menus systems from scratch.  This means creating situations in the game, both linear and side-quest, that employ a variety of control schemes and goals: minigames.

I'm going to be creating new custom graphics for this game.  Though I doubt that I'll feel committed enough to create custom maps or chipsets, a great deal will be made from scratch.  I'm talking all character graphics, all battle and menu graphics, and so on.

The main idea was to make it so the player always had at least two options in any given situation, such as busting through the front door or breaking in a window, and the choices would affect the game slowly.

I like this.  This would improve almost any game. :)

No "good" or "evil" choices. I want bad, evil or malicious choices.

And errr... Not the default battle system. It's flawed and if you add more than 2 enemies your speed is like halved and you wait for 30 second to make a turn.

Oh and customization. Even if it's something easy like the Pokemon R/S/E hideout or the underground lair of D/P/P or even that there thingy in Zelda the Windwaker in windfall island.
Players like to make something their own.

A game designed by Bioware or Bethseda, but then built by Valve on the Source engine! :D

This guy thought he could. (http://dummidumbwit.files.wordpress.com/2010/02/straight_jacket_joker_by_masterdrawer.jpg)

I use most of my ideas on my game. If I remember some spares I'll post them.
