Title: Video game songs that sound similar to real songs
Post by: lilsniffs3 on June 30, 2010, 12:57:31 AM
Yeah.

Some of them that come to mind are:

Faithfully by Journey/Elec Man from Mega Man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrLThSLBQv8 (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrLThSLBQv8) (Listen to a cool version based on that:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDpwg2MdLeE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oDpwg2MdLeE))

Say, Say, Say by Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson/Blizzard Man: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eVmZevyiWE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2eVmZevyiWE)

Of course, there's:

My Michelle by Guns n' Roses/ Neon Tiger: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31Y_p8QqI1c (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31Y_p8QqI1c)

Post anything else you came across.

Sonic 3's Carnival Night theme and "Jam" by Michael Jackson
Sonic 3's Credits theme and "Stranger in Moscow" by Michael Jackson
Tales of Symphonia "Keen-Edged Blade" and the guitar solo from "Ride the Lightning" by Metallica.
Star Ocean: Till the End of Time's Kerlsa Mining Town and "Fade to Black" by Metallica.

Pretty much anything from Earthbound, obviously.

And Brawl's theme sounds like a pretentious orchestrated musical piece. Oh wait.

For some reason a bit of Final Fantasy 7's soundtrack reminds me of Les Miserables.

Compare The FF7 Overworld Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch#!v=w2Aalw_ZmTA) to Les Miserables "Stars" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ROr4vdRZxpU). Maybe it's just me. They still seem to build up in very similar fashions, ending in some pretty epic fanfare.

And Tifa's Theme (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ky-cTSKlKQ) to "Drink With Me" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gH6U0yGbvBE)

Completely unrelated to that, the riff in the chorus of Metallica's "Seek and Destroy" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUAdgt5Glk0) sounds an awful lot like the one in Flash Man's Stage (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_osNdk1mKRs).

All of those musical similarities in Sonic 3 to Michael Jackson songs are justified: Michael Jackson was working on Sonic 3's music for a bit, until he got frustrated with the limitations of the Sega Genesis' sound board and gave up. Howard Drossin was then hired to scrounge up whatever he could for the rest of the game.

Yeah, I've seen those stories. I heard he got kicked off due to the whole Neverland Ranch incidanto; point is, is that he supposedly worked on it, and it truly shows!

Also, guy who did Star Ocean 3 and Symphonia are the same person, he must like Metallica.

Also, not videogames, but: Four Horsemen by Metallica off "Kill 'em All" has the exact same riffs as Mechanix by Megadeth off "Killing is my Business... and Business is Good!". (Same guitarist David Mustaine wrote Four Horseman, got kicked out, joined Megadeth and used his work there to get back at Metallica.)

MJ working on Sonic tunes has been confirmed. Also, slight modification to your story there: Dave wrote the song before joining Metallica, got kicked out, formed Megadeth, and re-wrote it to be faster, heavier and have improved solos. Metallica kept the earlier work and re-tooled the guitar parts.

Doesn't pretty much every piece of Mother-based music count as well?

You do know that Robo will never give you up. Not even when planting a forest for 400 years. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmMu6HGt14A)

It's also worth stating that much of the music from Doom and Doom 2 was heavily (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtyJDSfyaxo) inspired (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gy4Db3eCxeg) by (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TnzRBZd5_uA) Pantera (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nsHnigAMBNc) and (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9E7MPl4G2Qc) Slayer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HQj1-VG7Ko).

^^ I always thought this sounded similar to real music. Too bad they took this song from some random guy, so it technically IS real music. /:
