Title: The Last Airbender
Post by: Valiere on June 30, 2010, 06:42:42 AM
Can you hear low buzz in the distance? That's the sound of a thousand terrible reviews for this film that will very soon be upon us.

When that day arrives, I call for a public execution for M. Night Shyamalan.

The live action adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender.

Mr. Shyamalan better not **** this up.
Although, judging from the trailer, he already has.

The Last Airbender: Putting the "Cauc" back in "Asian!"

Anyway, I'm going to see it in 3D, review it, don't look back at it again. I love the series, but I already hate this movie. A freaking sparkly vampire from Twilight is playing Sokka, Sokka lost all his sarcasm and funny-ness, Katara's an overdramatic person who probably gives overly long speeches about hope every five seconds (kudos if you understand this,) and the casting call was just plain stupid. (Caucasian or any other ethnicity? WTF?)

This reminds me of the Dragon Ball movie when they made Goku white... heh heh...

Also, ZUKO HAS NO SCAR WHY THE **** WOULD YOU DO THAT THAT'S LITERALLY HIS ENTIRE DRIVE TO BE IN THE ****ing SHOW YOU IDIOT.

GAH

ed: wait, he does, but it's puny.

That does not look nearly as bad as it did in the show.

What if Aang really ISN'T the last airbender?

What a twist!

EDIT: Plus, lulz at the title not having "Avatar" due to obvious reasons.

The serie didn't interest me, so I doubt the movie will.
Why does the main character have an arrow on his head?

Why does the main character have an arrow on his head?

It's like a marking of his status or something. It proves he's the "Avatar" and glows when he goes into his avatar state.

And I have to agree... the cast has disappointed me and it looks TOO serious. =<

The tattoos are given to Air Nomads (what the main character is) at the age of twelve. Its something to do with air flow or something.

What if Aang really ISN'T the last airbender?

He isn't the last airbender. The title lies. Appa is an airbender.

Protesting this film. Not going to see it.

Racebending, Zerlina? I was going to protest, but someone has to go see it and say how sucky it is.

Anywho, there was a special on Nicktoons Network on the movie half an hour ago. Now I seriously believe this movie will crash and burn.

They changed Aang's name pronounciation. Instead of what it normally is, its pronounced "ong." Shamallamalom or whatever says it was to be more Asian. Really...cause then he should've hired less Caucasians....

They filmed a crap-load of Kyoshi Warrior stuff, then decided to scrap it.

Sokka's actor sucks at acting. Not kidding. I have no bias toward Twilight, but still, he sucks.

Movie comes out tommorrow. I'm going to see it Sunday.

No, it's an air monk thing.
Why it glows when he's in the avatar state, I don't think is ever explained.

I really, really don't want to see this.
But...I guess I have to.

How retarded are you all? "I hate this and think it will be terrible, so I'll be sure to pay good money to see it once it releases". What? When I encounter obvious ****, I don't reward the creators.

En masse it is.
Hence why there's going to be a Transformers 3, despite the fact that it was almost universally hated.

Not just that, it's also "So-kuh" instead of Sokka and "Uh-vuh-tar" instead of Avatar, according to interviews. "Iroh" is "Eer-oh." He says he did it because he's sooo respectful of other cultures, not like those ignorant whiteys who CREATED THESE CHARACTERS.

Oh, and unlike in the show, firebenders need a source to bend; they can't just produce fire on their own. He said he did it because it would be more of an impact in the third film when the comet enhances firebending to the point where they can produce fire without a source. But joke's on him! There's probably won't even be any more films!

I had a bad feeling since I heard the words "M. Night Shabamaladabamamatamaomamadabam" tied in with the movie. He hasn't made a decent film since 'Signs'.

He can claim being a huge fan of Avatar all he wants, but even if he was a good movie-maker, he'd have the astronomical demands of the fandom to compete with. Really, he put a huge noose on his bleeding neck. Good thing I'm not really a fan of Avatar (don't have cable TV).

I read that Shyamalan's daughter (who is, of course, dark-skinned like he is) loves Katara and dressed up as her for Halloween because she loved that she looked like her. And then Daddy goes and casts Katara as a white girl. Way to give a big "screw you" to your own daughter, Shyam.

At least it's a small consolation that he didn't ACTUALLY use Jessy McCartney for Zuko.
I'm pretty sure theaters would have been burned down in that case.

I just watched it.  I am pretty sure that Avatar was pretty much pronounced Avatar...

Personally, I thought it was okay.  The problem is that I didn't see much of the series.  I saw about 15 episodes max.  Although, some of my friends (well... 15/20 that went to see it tonight) were very angry by the time the end came around.  So... =/

This is why the internet exists. To see these sh**y movies ruin a great show without paying online.

The dialogue was HORRIBLE, the story was RUSHED liked I've never seen before, okay.. more like it was sequenced wrong. The script was SO MEDIOCRE. And the actors, THE DAMN ACTORS. THE FUGGING ACTORS. There was no personality on the main cast. The only characters I liked was Iroh (i think it was the only one that shined even if he wasn't fat), the firelord and actually I did kind of enjoyed Zuko. But the other NOOBS had no personality in the characters. THEY WEREN"T CHALLENGED WITH THE STUPID SCRIPT THEY WERE GIVEN. /rage

I loved the effects, but I am sadden that nothing else made up for it. The pronunciations were a pain to hear too. I facepalmed more than five times.

What HTML said. Was I the only person who thought the scenes were all five seconds?

Also: "We must go to the Northern Water Tribe which is ruled by a princess because her father died." Lol much?

HAHAHAHAHA most pathetic excuse for a movie ever. This is almost worse than the movie versions of Street Fighter and possibly even Double Dragon that were made in the early 90s. Corny as hell, moves way too quickly, terrible acting.. I've watched the series and M. Night Shmallalmayan was a retard for thinking he could turn a cartoon series into a trilogy. This movie looks like something amateurs would throw on youtube for a college project or something. Made me laugh though haha (def don't pay to see this, I'm sure glad I didn't.)

Never a fan of the show but caught a episode here and there.
I knew the movie would be disastrous from the trailer and when I learned M. Night Shyamalan was doing it he hasn't done anything good in years I think Signs was ok (with the exception of the stupid water crap)
Though I find it hard to believe it could be any worse than the Prince Of Persia movie which had a much easier plot to develop) buuut I went to go see it even someone with half a brain and no understanding of this movie would find it stupid, the dialogue was over the top bad and the film was just as bad as anything else that was pointless and senseless that M. Night Shyamalan has done. I rmeber after the Prince Of Persia movie I felt displease that I thought it wasn't the worst movie but it was not  anywhere near enjoyable watching and I would never watch it again, but The Last Airbender proved me wrong with being much much worse than the Prince Of Persia movie was  kudos Shyamalan you've done it again.

On a semi-related note to the original cartoon fans

New cartoon series coming up taken place 70 years after the events in the original series:

I'm finding the premise to sound a little interesting...not sure how it's going to work with multiple seasons at this moment now, however.
Still, I'm pretty sure that this is more than going to make up for He-That-Shall-Not-Be-Named.

I'm thinking (more like hoping) that the Nick execs will kill that due to the awful critical reception. Seeing as word of mouth is that it's a bad movie, people wouldn't have high hopes for the sequel.
