An tourist visiting New York City had his wallet stolen in an elevator. The thief had to be Lillian, Judy, David, Theo or Margaret. When questioned by the police, each suspect made three statements:
Lillian:
I didn't take the wallet.
I have never in my life stolen anything.
Theo did it.
Judy:
I didn't take the wallet.
My daddy is rich enough, and I have a wallet of my own.
Margaret knows who did it.
David:
I didn't take the wallet.
I didn't know Margaret before I came into the elevator.
Theo did it.
Theo:
I am not guilty.
Margaret did it.
Lillian is lying when she says I stole the wallet.
Margaret:
I didn't take the wallet.
Judy is guilty.
David can vouch for me because he has known me since I was born.
Later, each person admitted that two of his/her statements were true and one was false. Assuming this is true, who stole the wallet?
Whoever can solve this gets a cookie.

Judy

Judy did it.
EDIT: Crap you AFL! You beat me to it
-
I forgot to mention, explain your process! lol
-
Oh...
Lillian:
I didn't take the wallet. (Truth)
I have never in my life stolen anything. (Truth)
Theo did it. (Lie)
Judy:
I didn't take the wallet. (Lie)
My daddy is rich enough, and I have a wallet of my own. (True)
Margaret knows who did it. (True)
David:
I didn't take the wallet. (True)
I didn't know Margaret before I came into the elevator. (True)
Theo did it. (Lie)
Theo:
I am not guilty. (True)
Margaret did it. (Lie)
Lillian is lying when she says I stole the wallet. (True)
Margaret:
I didn't take the wallet. (True)
Judy is guilty. (True)
David can vouch for me because he has known me since I was born. (Lie)
My process? It was just logical. I can't really explain. I just went with Judy's statements: Who says you need a wallet to steal one?
-
Unless they're both lies. I say it's Margaret. Theo has two statements that basically mean the same thing. It's impossible for one to be true while the other is a lie, so only his third statement can be a lie. Margaret stole the wallet.

The process:
Theo:
I am not guilty. (T)
Margaret did it. (F)
Lillian is lying when she says I stole the wallet. (T)
This is the best place to start because the statements are the least vague. Statements 1 and 3 have to be either both true or both false, since Theo can't be guilty and have Lillian lying or vice versa. since each person only could tell one lie, then we know they are both true. Theo's off the hook, and Margaret being the thief is the lie.
Lillian:
I didn't take the wallet. (T)
I have never in my life stolen anything. (T)
Theo did it. (F)
We know Theo did not do it, therefore that's the lie. Lillian is also off the hook.
David:
I didn't take the wallet. (T)
I didn't know Margaret before I came into the elevator. (T)
Theo did it. (F)
Again we know Theo did not do it. That means the other two statements are true.
Margaret:
I didn't take the wallet. (T)
Judy is guilty. (T)
David can vouch for me because he has known me since I was born. (F)
Since David not knowing Margaret is true, then Margaret's statement about knowing David is the lie. That means it doesn't look very good for Judy.
Judy:
I didn't take the wallet. (F)
My daddy is rich enough, and I have a wallet of my own. (T)
Margaret knows who did it. (T)
Margaret does indeed know who did it - it was you. The statement about the daddy being rich must be also true by the rules of the game even though we have no way of verifying that.

Oh, wait, I messed up. Sai wins.
-
Ugh. Thanks for not saying that in the original post Linkforce! I would've so had it!
Although, I started with Lillian, then went to Theo, and did what Sai did from there.
-
Yeah, I saw that progression, but because I fucked up with Theo, it never ended up making any sense, so I ignored it as unimportant. That's what I get for trying to multitask. :/
-
Wow.
...
Nerds.
Wait, wut.
-
Judy did it. Her father is rich enough, he doesn't need to gain satisfaction in life through generativity, and so he neglects his daughter. Then she lashes out looking for attention by doing something like this. Assuming everyone is lying (which they probably are, even Linkforce) she still did it because I said so.
Elementary, my dear [name][/name].

None of them.
The tourist simply forgot his wallet in the hotel.
-
Linkforce is lying. He made up this whole elaborate story to confuse the authorities and make a run with the wallet.

Sorry everyone else who tried!! :P
