any of you got it?
Your thoughts?
Anyone want to play?
-
Still haven't bought it. Not sure why though. I might buy it but I'm not 100% convinced yet.
-
i havent been able to stop playing it since it was installed. Im more then enjoying it.
-
I've never enjoyed RTSes. Too many of them focus on micromanagement instead of strategic combat. If it were the other way around, I'd be obsessed.
-
How is the world editor thingy? Is it anything like Warcraft III's?
So it isn't just a generator that seeds a map for you.
-
It's out already? When it was announed I was like woohoo, then I completely forgot about it.
-
I wonder if the map maker is anything like W3's... which I liked since you could make somewhat custom things.
-
So far, Ive spent 98% of the time playing campaign mode and ulocking acheivments.
I havent even checked the editor. I played some random map against AI. The new units are rad.
As for micromanagement, it has nothing more intricate then part 1 (vespene, minerals, research).
The new Terran units are radsauce though
-
Think I'm gunna pick this up Friday when I have a whole weekend to screw around.
-
you totally need a few days when you get this.
also: level editor seems pretty much just like Warcraft 3, but with some extra features, on account of the whole thing being in 3d and DX10
-
I really want to be excited about it. I really do. I just can't. I don't know why.
-
The only bad sides to map editing, or more custom content in general-
-Maps have a 2MB limit on their scripting. Not generally an issue, but it could be limiting on some more complex modifcations.
-All custom maps are moderated by Blizz, meaning you have to stick within their guidelines
Also the ending is horribly cheesy
Still, I might get this when I have some money floating around.
-
I got it. It's fun.
Like Gemini I'm also enjoying the campaign and the CHEEVES. But I'm also playing custom games v computers with my bro.
TOO BAD ABOUT THAT REGION LOCKING. But down the line Aussies will at least be able to play with North Americans, so that's cool.
-
I've waited forever for this so yes I'm playing it one of the only games I will uuuuh obtain "legally"
Pretty fun though.
Damn Battle.net
-
Is this as good as Red Alert 2? That's the only question I need to ask.
-
Also I disagree with Hobo's claim of the ending which he hasn't played himself.
-
Had it accounted to me by multiple people, of differing standpoints on the game, read plot summaries, et cetera. It's stupid.
-
Yeah, hobo generally just shoots his mouth off about theese things though.
Lets not beat around the bush, its starcraft, Its intentionally a bit cheesy. Not to mention that the ending was one of the least cheesy parts of the plot. I mean, the game opens with Jim Raynor Shooting a TV screen, while spouting a one liner. Thats like complaining about Bruce Campbell's acting style as being too cheesy. Whatevs though.
-
The whole thing was built up to pretty well, I thought.
Spoilers:
I'm serious, y'all. This is actual spoilers now.
Throughout they mention bits about Tychus, but he's there with you all the way through, including that second to last mission. By then, you know somebody's got him by the balls, but they leave it alone.
Then you beat the last mission, Mengsk was the guy all along rah rah I guess it was obvious in retrospect. But you're still "noooooo don't do it EVERYONE WILL DIE IF YOU KILL HER". Jimmy uses his Chekhov's bullet at last and that's the end of that.
Although, I'm pretty sure his betrayal goes right back to the intro trailer. I mean hell, isn't that Mengsk's voice?
The only thing I found weak from a story POV is that this Protoss artifact manages to conveniently restore Kerrigan, who we've all seen many times looks like she has no skin on most of her body: you can see her muscles and **** in a lot of places. Not to mention the wings... but I digress. This artifact manages to turn her all the right back, undoing all the damage - except her bony spinelike hair, which I thought was a good touch. That stuff looks nasty.
But the game's worth it all for that lovin' Raynor touch. And the parts where they bring back
old dialogue from Starcraft 1
was a nice touch too. I liked that a lot.
Here's hoping Heart of the Swarm won't be too far away.
Which, on that note:
Moooore spoilers I am serious
With all the Overminds and Cerebrates dead, and Kerrigan no longer leading the Zerg, who's going to take the reins? I'd guess the whole story for HOTS is going to be about the Xel'Naga or something, but whether the Zerg forces are working for or against the Hybrids we'll have to see.
-
I thought it was made pretty clear that
The Hybrid Zerg/Protoss control the Swarm now
-
I bought the game today. Haven't installed it yet though... I'm gonna.
-
I wonder if the map maker is anything like W3's... which I liked since you could make somewhat custom things.
It's layout is almost identical, but as you'd expect it works a little differently, but it's also much more powerful, you should look up some of the custom maps made by it to get an example of what it's capable of.
I have this obviously, account name is Belial.
-
Were the zerglings really this fast? I was just "wow... what the crap".
Started a game, felt like I started to get a hang on things, then a tide of small buggers just swarm in, not like moving across the horizon with flags and stuff. Just flowing as a horde of piranhas that goes in and leaves nothing. Just amazing.
-
nothing a small group of Helions cant fix.
-
1. Get a queen
2. Spawn larvae on the hatchery
3. KEEP DOING THIS
4. Upgrade all spawning pool/evolution chamber upgrades
5. CONTINUING DOING STEP 3.
6. After a while, select ALL the larvae.
7. ZERGLINGS
8. KEKEKEKE
-
no, you're a Queen.
LOLOLOLOL
-
Topic kick = yes.
But after a long time I'm actually getting a little good at the game.
It got minor or no flaws.
It's balanced enough.
I'd give praise to blizzard for the campaign mode I expected to be anything like Age of empires, Empire eath or simply Warcraft 3. But they made it pretty neat with upgrades and unlocking units. I like that.
The story was pretty cool, one-liners, calling each other cowboy and pardner.
And I keep getting that Starship Trooper feeling especially at the end. You have the gifted people signed up for the ghost program, the whole broadcast-thingy is awesome. The lost viking arcade is another nice touch.
And the simple fact that you can pretty much complete missions in whatever order you like.
So if I want Vikings for that one mission I can just play the mission for vikings and then move on.
Makes it easier to get some achievments and things as well.
And about the ending.
I kinda expected the queen to die from the relic since all zergs pretty much died from it.
It was kinda movie-obvious though that she would revert back to old times. That Tychus betrayed you at the end was pretty obvious as well, he seemed very interested in her death and had a trigger to his head. And we knew that Mobeus released him and that Valerian was at least the president over them. So why wouldn't it be a family bussiness? And either way Mengsk is the emperor.
about the secret mission
Did they try to tell us that the Hybrids were created by Mengsk? And in that case - is the whole "Xel'naga returns and destroys all life"-prophecy a lie?
-
Oh didnt know we had a topic for this.
I got it, havent done online yet since Ill probably get creamed. Mainly messing around in campaign and editor. Made a level with some units dropped from other modes or all together, like lurkers, scourge, scouts, and such. Even made dark archons for it. Nothing big really, and map is alright, considering it was my first map.
