Title: GoldenEye Remake
Post by: SaiKar on November 01, 2010, 11:40:34 AM
Accusations of trolling be damned I'll just go ahead and ask - by chance was this your anatomical reference, Lucas?

I hadn't been paying close attention so I checked the release date on the new version of that:
GoldenEye 007   Activision      11/02/10   US

... tomorrow?!

Also, he never asked for art reviews of any kind, ya know, so you're all to blame or none of you are.

EDIT by lucas: Don't kill my thread. :P
This one is now about the goldeneye remake thingie. Yeah. Go.

The game's being remade?  God damn.  I should pay more attention to these things.  Or not.  I never played the original (Once a PCfag master race always a PCfag master race.), so I don't have much to be excited about.

*Checks Wikipedia for a PC port before getting excited*

Wii exclusive. It's also not a perfect port, it's more of a recreation. New bond, new scenario, new levels (although it has a fair amount in common with the original). It has a lot to do with the rights confusion. Nintendo, Rare, and Activision are all claiming ownership of the game, and they're all technically right. Nintendo published it, so they have a claim. Rare developed it, so they have their claim. Activision owns publishing rights to Bond games as of right now, so they have a claim. There were a number of attempts in the past to work out a three-way deal, putting a high-res port on the Wii and Xbox 360, but things weren't working out well. In the end, Activision proposed an idea with Nintendo to release a game with the same name and most of what made the original fun, but they had to make a different game to prevent legal issues with Rare. It's unfortunate for Rare that they've been cut out, but they were offering the most difficulties in the original plans.

TL;DR

It's not a port, it has the new Bond, the scenario has been changed, and it's a Wii exclusive (all for legal reasons).

And also apparently for the DS for some wacky reason. Actually, if the DS version is any good, I might be more excited about that. My TV isn't so great so I don't enjoy wii games too much, but I play the DS everywhere and it's always the right size.

I have a TV from the 80s and I still enjoy Wii games on it.
And personally, unless the shooter in question is Resident evil where you have to stop to aim - I prefer Wii or PC.

And I read about this some time back and hopefully they won't screw it up like Rogue agent....

I couldn't get enough of proximity mines.

The rocket launcher, however, always seemed to get me killed.

Why do I get the feeling you'd kick my *** at this game, Val?

The original Goldeneye was the first video game I was notably good at. I put out a standing challenge at my school - 1 vs 1, challenger gets to chooses map, weapons, and scenario, no oddjobs. I actually had like 3 or 4 people I'd never met take me up on it. It was pretty awkward sometimes. Did win them all though. Yeah, I played the heck out of that game.

Yeah, I played the heck out of that game.

And I played the heck out of your mom but you don't see me bragging.

Great.  If only I had access to a Wii or DS, I'd be happy.

Anyone remember Slappers Only?

How could we forget? Slappers only + License to Kill mode = more arguments in my friend's basement than any other moment in 7th grade.

I dunno, when I was in 7th grade, our Nightfire arguments went something along the lines of:
 - Stop autofiring the P2K.
 - Dammit, is someone Oddjob again?
 - STOP BEING AN ASSHAT WITH THE LASERS!
 - Oh, hey, snow guard is running into the wall again.
 - HEY!  WHAT DID WE TELL YOU ABOUT THE LASER?
 - Now you're all ganging up on me.
 - It's your own damn fault you were teamkilling with the damn laser.

James bond from russia with love for the GC.
That game, I'm telling you.
So many stupid modes and items, the melee combat was so unbalanced that the russian thug could wifebeat the crap out of all the charcters even with minimum hp.
The cars insta-killed all characters but the Russian thug and had auto-aim.
Jetpacks....
Rocketlauncher mode...
The golden gun
And well, shooter on GC (that isn't Metroid) kinda = fail.
