So this is a rant- anyway...
Got to the library yesterday at 10am, sat there until it closed at midnight. It was pouring rain and my friend invited me to stay over since my house is very far, but I had to go home because my class the next day requires us to
1. watch a movie for every class
2. do readings
3. write a quiz on it the next day.
Because he's so awesome, the professor requires that we write the quiz on little red sheets of paper that are torn out of the back of his book. He will not accept answers written on anything else as I found out when he gave me a 0 on a previous test. SO I had to do the commute if anything just to get the book. Anyway, I commuted an hour and a half in the pouring rain after spending 14 hours writing, got home at about 1:45am and had to eat dinner, watch the stupid movie and do the readings, then get two hours of sleep to be up in time for this ***hole's class. Guess what? He moved the quiz to the first five minutes of class (instead of the end) to screw over people who came in late so because I was 10 minutes late after all that crap, I got 0%... which I could have gotten if I had just stayed at my friends, not done the commute, and not stayed up late doing the readings and watching te movie.
I have never. wanted. to punch someone. in the dick. so much. in my life.

It sucks so much that the entirety of education hinges on the personality of a few teacher types. I know the feeling.

Yeah, university is a strange thing when teachers gets so much power that they can screw people over.

Working on 2 papers, one of them for calculus. (wtf?)

I've had to write papers for 4 classes so far over the span of 3 quarters and a semester. Two of those were specifically writing classes.
If you're a CS major, there seems to be a lot less emphasis on writing ****. And more on creating crappy programs. HUZZAH.

I had a sociology professor who took anywhere from 10 to 30 points off quizzes for everyone who disagreed with him.
Mind you, this guy was a racist, homophobic crazy who mixed up the French Revolution and the Spanish Inquisition.
I didn't do so well in his classes.
I looked at a quiz of mine, then looked at the one of the girl next to me-- my answers were the same as hers, but in complete sentences with explanations, and every time, she got 100%, and I got marked down for being "vague".

I feel ya, Zerl. One time I got a "0" on an essay because it wasn't double-spaced.
You can try appealing to the department; just arrange to meet with them and turn on the waterworks about HOW MUCH TIME YOU SPENT preparing for this quiz and HOW BADLY you need to make up for the unfair zero you got on the previous one. That worked for me.

To be fair, you *were* late. That does not fly in the actual business world outside of college, regardless of circumstance. I'm not sayin' the prof isn't being a power-trippy ***hole. But you can't give those people any rope to let them hang you with.

I luckily don't have any classes like that this semester. Although, I feel like my Educational Psychology class next semester might be like that paper-wise.
