I'm not mad at Nintendo or anything now, I just find it hilarious. Seriously? Teh Pig? Yeaaaah... Creative, guys, very creative. And... Oshawott? What kind of name is that?
I decided to get Black and White. Pirated, of course. Why? Ah, it can't be THAT bad. I mean, sure, pokés suck, but it will be less than a week before I beat the game and can start building a team with old, good pokés.
Gamefreak lost their game making skills. That, or they are letting five year olds not only design the pokés but name them as well. "So, whats this little pig here called?" "The pig?" "Oh yeah, great name boy, lets go with it!" "but i was just making sure if it was the pig or... Ah, screw it."
Its like the bad troll thing.
-
I don't get it.
-
hey Lucas... Id like you to remember that they design pokemon games with Seven year olds as one of their primary focus groups.
....to complain about the childish nature of Rated-E games when youre damn near grown up. Its like going to watch the lion king and saying "God this is so unrealistic, everyone knows lions cant talk"
-
I haven't played Pokemon since the original NA release of blue when I was ten. In my mind there are still 151.
-
Lies. You know for sure that there are at least 152. Don't you remember... Quagsire? You certainly do.
-
I love how the grass starter is named Snivy
EDIT: Even funnier is the Region name Unova. Isshu sound so much better.
-
Right how could I forget the worst failed-forced-meme ever...
-
the worst failed-forced-meme ever...
Pretty much
-
What kind of ****ing stupid name is Squirtile anyway?
-
Yeah, all the names are pretty bad. I acknowledged that a while ago. Its not that any of them are any good, you just get used to them.
-
Most names are stupid, mostly puns or mixes of words. Or other stupid things.
Ekans and Arbok are clear proof of this.
Also, Slowpoke.
-
Except Lion King is one of my favourite movies.
...and I'm damn near grown up.
You know, I'm gonna shut up now.
GOOD
-
lol
I give them props for just coming up with that many names and not hiding a dick or vagoo in there at some point.
I dont know if I could resist not naming a pokemon Anigav or Meathog or something...you know, If i were to be in charge of picking names for these things
-
Yeah, it was like the in the comics too. Ash almost died several times. Lt. Surge was in the war. Mewtwo was evil as hell.
There's a list of things. It was definitely cooler when it started, but the company obeys its customers and its customers are 8 year olds and the occasional oldie who just can't let go.
-
I'm trying not to look at any of the pokemon so I get surprised as I find 'em.
-
Yeah, the legendary trio is just lazy, no matter how you cut the cake.
And yeah, I happen to be an old fan who just can't let go. Even tho they're meant for kids, I still enjoy the games. Not sure why, the series just has a spot in my heart and it melts every time I play the damn thing.
-
Its probably a good thing that you aren't.
But yeah, I don't know, its like its more aimed at kids now than it was back then. I mean, in the first games, they mentioned pokés eating each other, body parts being used as drugs, and killing of indian elephants. Now its all so cute and all that. I don't like cute and all that. I want my Raichu to electrocute giant mammals.
I think there's a bit of nostalgia-goggling here, considering *according to my sister's pokemon-high ramblings* that the later villains are all "homg world destruction!!!!" and not just "we take your fuzzy battle pets!" It's always been cutesy, with the occasional bit of "Hey, when you think about it, that's actually REALLY messed up."
I like that Pokemon has stayed mostly cute and lighthearted, though. Every other franchise seems to feel the need to go all DARK AND EDGY, and there are only so many Shadow the Hedgehogs one can encounter before going completely bonkers.
-
You know, that's TRUE.
Some people never heard of comic relief.
Shakespeare did. If he did, Sega oughta be ashamed of themselves.
-
I read on Serebii that Tepig was a combination of Tepid and Pig, Tepid meaning Lukewarm. Which makes sense. Although, it is awkward that it sounds that way. (Sorry I'm a little late in this conversation... >.>)
Also, on the subject of the legendary trio, they seem like it, but they do have major differences. Each of their tails are different, along with the thing on their head. Its not like Final Fantasy 1 and 2 where they are literal recolors...
I personally enjoy the pokémon from this generation. Although, I'm still not sure how to pronounce the water starter's English name...
-
BTW, Lucas, if I can figure out how to get connected, we should battle. Cuz I never battle anybody. This goes for anyone who thinks they can take my HG team (which they probably could =P)

They're minor edits.
That's still REALLY bad, and lazy.

Revolver Oshawott
Tepig Boss
Solid Snivy
-
IN Gamefreak's defence, PUNS. PUNS everywhere.
Otter's name is a combination of Otter and some place in Canada, Oshawa, where sea otters apparently exist.
Tepig's explained ITT.
Snivy is snake and ivy, which I think is actually what the japanese name was a combination of (in japanese of course).
While we mourn the loss of Isshu, Unova's theme throughout multiple languages is the inclusion of "one" in some way. In this case, "uno".
Not gonna lie though, I enjoy the japanese names more. I have become the weeaboo, for shame.

Hey.
After playing this a bit.
It's not half bad.
EDIT: I take that back. The battle music is awful and the kiddy level is through the roof so far... I hope it isn't always like this. We'll see...
*clasps hands maniacally*

As long as Penda's name isn't fucked up.
Beside Heracross and Scyther - that's the only Bug pokémon I've ever been looking forward to catching.
And yes, the game is aimed towards children and personally I'd say that they keep the tradition going. Gen1 might have been a lot more manga-ish with pokés like Nidorino but I remember reading that he and some other (cool) pokémon were taken directly from some other project.
In Gen1 you wanted to become the best trainer in the world while stopping team rocket on the way.
In Gen2 you wanted to become the best trainer in both Jotho and Kanto while stopping the leftovers of team rocket.
In gen3 you want to become a strong trainer like your dad while at the same time preventing an efil team from using the power of weather to increase/ decrease landmass.
In Gen4 you end up becoming a strong trainer while fighting team galactic as they kidnap legendary sprites, take their marbles and summons Dialga/Palkea to alter the world as we know it.
Not sure about Gen5, but it seems to follow the theme.
It has kinda gone from personal gain towards saving the world.
Bottom line is - As long as they kinda stop the trend of humanoids in the games I'm one dandy beaver. Catching what looks like a human is odd, especially if it looks like a green and white ballerina or these new gothic chicks.
Also - hobo, do the others as well. Hillarious.
-
Ive been to Oshawa. I saw more otters in Vancouver which is like...way far away. Like 1.3 europes
-
Well, everything that I could've said has already been said.
So in that notion. Smugleaf was not really a good name.
-
Snivy is actually an OK name.
Tepig though is just TERRIBLE.
ed: Lucas, you posted at literally the exact same time I tried to and it made me crash.
wtf
-
Oshawott is kinda fun to say. I think it's cute.
-
Oh. Oshawott's last ev. Only quadrupedal water starter. I like that.
Swampert? The ugly cheap ***-
Also, I guess the japanese link fire and fighting together in some sort of symbolic thingmajing. No idea though, it made infernape suck balls.
-
I never played 3rd gen all the way through. I just got my gba flashcard working again tho, so I might hit that up.
-
Fire and fighting styles is not really a japanese thing so much as it is a Kung-Fu thing. Karate suxxorz
-

Ekans, Arbok, Muk.

Gotta say. Hiun City is awesome cool sauce.
-
Well, I agree. There's some spotty things going on here. But it's still pretty cool. Though, the animated pokes in battle are nothing special. Sad to say. =\

Chinese much? :p

Yea... there's like no Otters in Oshawa. My friend lives there.
Btw, to all those who don't know, Oshawa is just outside of Toronto, I can't believe they would name a poke after a suburb.
-
Is your friend any good at Where's Waldo or Carmen Sandiago?
