So, as some of you living in the states may be aware, a record storm is wreaking havoc across something like 2000+ miles of land. Where I live, massachusetts, January has been record breaking, not only with some of the extreme low temps we've experienced, but also with the amount of snow that's fallen in the past month. 6 or 7 big winter storms have hit us in the past 3 weeks. Its been ridiculous...
And I worked today and tomorrow. Love shoveling.
So, anyone else been affected by this?
Also, shuddup lucas. I don't want to hear about how nice and sunny brazil is.
-
No, it's not snowing here too much. It's about 10 degrees and I'm planning to go get some free pizza before working on some labs. Nope, we're in a really mild time right now.
-
We tend to get a lot of snow here. Of course, being the Hermit I am, I sometimes don't notice how much there actually is. Right now, though, it's pretty good. I hope we don't get any Blizzard or such, I've already wasted too much time with this.
-
Well, this is what we get for screwing nature.
Fiercer winters and blazing summers.
-
Snow My God!
I actually got a half day of work off of today and all of tomorrow off because of this storm. SNOW DAY OFF WORK, YES! My whole town is closed down. We're supposed to just sit indoors and wait it out. Hope the power stays on!
-
Somehow it's sunny outside.
That's kind of rare for Warshington.
-
i may be getting snow soon. It's actually supposed to be around freezing.
-
Snow?
being from Canada and all I'll try not to laugh too much when southern folks complain about snow. but yeah. hahahah!
-
Yeah, because storms in Canada never close schools (http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2011/01/12/canada-snow-storms.html) or make travel difficult (http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2010/12/08/snow-storm-ontario.html).

Hey, it's pretty damn rare in Houston. It's always something to behold. Like a ****ing monsoon in Death Valley.
Also, it's pretty controllable around here. If we have any, it won't be a lot, and it'll melt in an hour. Schools and businesses tend to close for the day, claiming that we're not adequately prepared for the driving conditions, or that the city isn't able to accommodate for the weather in keeping the public safe, but it's pretty much just "Holy balls, it's snowing, nobody's coming in today".
-
Apparently when it rains in Phoenix, wrecks on the freeway abound.
Due to people panicking, and such.
-
Delaware hasn't been getting too much, well the northern part up near New Jersey but that's about it, I think where I live (southern) I've gotten 2ft or so total, course supposed to snow some more soon so who knows.
-
Yeah, I think we've got about two feet total down here, too.
Of course, that's a lifetime total...
-
I envy you. Down here it's been around 40 degrees celsius (about 107 farenheit I think?) constantly. Going to a music festival in this weather is something I almost regret.
-
104.
Goddamn, that's hot.
-
Yeah, it was pretty disgusting. Lucky a cool change came in before Rammstein and Tool played. Rammstein's pyrotechnics + extremely hot weather isn't the best combo.
-
It's supposed to be 19° F tomorrow morning. Christ, that's cold for Houston.
-
They refuse to call a snow day at my university. I can't get to class tomorrow so I'm going to miss an important lecture D:
-
I've heard of nothing from my school. Regardless, it seems calm and ****ing cold outside as usual.
-
Well, this weather is pretty normal for the town my college is in, so I can't even dream of a snow day. Actually, its been freezing rain most of the the past few days. You would like that being in PA, I would at least be getting a little bit of the snow, but that storm has been like , lol j/k you're not getting anything. Its actually not doing anything right now.
-
no snow~!
we get school off from ice.
Snow refuses to come... :<
-
It's -35 degrees Celsius where I am right now and we're supposed to get about a foot and a half of snow today. Pretty normal day all told lol.
(-35 being somewhere around the same in Fahrenheit I think?)
-
Snow? What the heck is that? Frozen rain?
Seriously, we don't have snow here either. :(
-
:D We got like 19 inches of snow and then some. At some places, I was almost waist deep in snow and it was pretty fun. They actually closed the schools down for a day (NYC NEVER closes the schools down), canceled public transportation due to ice on the train rails.
We've gotten rain. Snow. Hail. And everything mixed up until it became ice. Right now my mom's car is covered in ice. :D It's pretty awesome.
**** sunny weather. **** is overrated.
-
Seriously, snow is FTW.
and no, I'm not in Russia, I'm in Canada.
Funnily enough these days they seem to close all the schools pretty quickly when there's any kind of snow or freezing rain, despite the fact that it's a pretty normal thing. Last winter my little brother only ended up going to about 1/3 of his classes because of it (without skipping!).
I feel like an old person because I remember having to trudge my way through snow that if I stepped in the wrong spot I'd literally end up in over my head lol just to get to school.... probably the beginning of a long existing relationship between me and never going to class lol
-
Snow ain't that much difficult in a country that have snow at least one moth a year.
Can't remember any school closing down over here. Sure, trains get late or cancelled, buses get stuck on the ice at each station and old people breaks their hips. It's no big deal.
-
I think the problem my state is having is that they just flat out aren't prepared for this much snow ever. I mean, I can drive in a bit of snow just fine, but when it starts piling up and not getting plowed away, or when the ice underneith gets thick and slick, then there's nothing anyone can do largely irregardless of skill.
-
Louisiana hasn't gotten an snow yet, but today's temperature range is from 18-33F. Tomorrow is supposed to be worse lol.
-
Yeah, I drive a standard front-wheel drive little kia rio. No snow tires. Driving is a bad idea for me.
-
Alright, Spoke too soon. We got quite a blizzard-ish thing this afternoon. Although, the snow isn't coming down much at all right now. We just had a LOT of wind.
-
We had rain last night. Then the cold weather came in and froze the puddles.
Mini-lakes all over.
Oh, and rolling blackouts. We only just got power back, like, a couple of hours ago.
-
It's shocking as hell for me. Freezing weather is quite rare.
-
It's...still sunny out.
Did everybody switch weather with me for the week, or something?
-
Same here Fruckert. Normal is pretty bad here, but we've been getting the short end of the stick here. Except that mini-tornado of snow outside the music building. haha
-
I think I've seen (natural) snow about 3 times ever. It always melts before it hits the ground though. Goddamn Australia.
-
I hate snow.
-
I hate heat.
Let's swap.
-

See, that's the thing about rochester. They're crazy prepared for snow. Hell, when I walked out this morning, everything was covered in a 1 foot layer of snow. Except the pathways and roads.
Though my desktop lost connection for some strange reason. I'm typing this message on a tiny netbook while eating midnight hamburgers.
-
The best kind of hamburgers.
-
Ahhhh. I'm soooo hungry now.
-
I could go for some midnight burgers right about now...
Still gotta wait 25 minutes for midnight, though...
-
Eeyup, pretty uneventful here. No more than a foot.
-
Yeah, January was pretty ridiculous. Nevertheless, my school never closes. The world could be ending and we'd still be open. Even during the most ridiculous one, all we got was a 2 hours of classes canceled in the morning. Fortunately, the professors themselves were reasonable and a lot of them, including some of mine at certain times, canceled. Other times, I just didn't get out of bed, especially for one 50-minute class.
-
Well I may not be getting snow but within the last four or so hours most of my state has flash flooded and most of the rail lines and roads are out. Welp
-
3rd day in a row where snow was announced and we got nothin...:<
-

There was one time where my highschool was the only one that didn't close down for a snowday. The geeky morning news show we had directly addressed that. Though, a later day, I guess the superintendents decided to have weird mercy and cancel school like 2 days afterwards, but still. Doesn't that sort of defeat the purpose of snowdays?
-
Been meaning to ask, anyone experience thunder snow? I was hoping with all these storms, I'd atleast see that happen. But alas, it didn't. :(
-
And what exactly is thunder snow?
-
Thunderstorm with snow?
And no, I've never had something like that happen.
-
doesn't thunderstorms require warm air?
Which would melt the snow?
-

That's what I thought. It either needs to be warm air or moist. Winters are completely dry over here.
-
I'm kind of pissed.
All of northwest Louisiana got snow.
What did Ruston get? Cold weather with wet rain. It probably snowed for about five minutes last night.
Stupid ****ing snow day. I feel like I got cheated.
-
Thunder snow does happen. Just rarely cuz the conditions have to be just right. And you'd figure since the apocalypse is nearing... Welllll
-

We've been getting a lot of rain with the snow so it is quite possible for thunder as well HOWEVER...no thunder in NYC. :D
-
So we're about to get about a million or something tonight that will most likely cause blackouts and other various catastrophes around the city for a few days or something.
-
Huzzah! No snow on the forecast, and the temperatures are finally getting up to the 30's-40's! Seriously, it's been in the 10-20 range, sometimes lower, since the first week of December. That's extremely cold for where I am.
...There are still piles of snow outside my apartment building and a good sheet of ice over everything, though. It's been days since our last snowstorm, and the roads still aren't entirely de-iced. I'm glad to see this winter finally coming to an end, though. It's been long, cold, and miserable. It doesn't help that my heat's not working.
-
Dear Snow Gods, please drop sleet all over the place and get class canceled tomorrow. Love, Val
-
Your heathen gods will fail! Perhaps if you'd shown your faith in the one true God, things might actually have worked!
Blahblahblah, something Christian.
-
Dammit, you're right. Class wasn't canceled. :(

Ok, so snow wasn't as heavy as predicted. It is still a fairly large amount.
