Title: Ghost Trick/999/Castlevania
Post by: Zerlina on June 14, 2011, 03:12:30 AM
Hey, was looking at some games for DS, and was considering either getting Ghost Trick, 999, or Order of Ecclesia. Any of you guys played these and have any idea which one's better. I have a lot of platformers already, but if OoE is really good I'll still get it.

Never heard of 999. Order was alright, but I had problems with it. It gets hard as ****, too, so don't be shocked if you decide to stop playing it forever and throw it into open traffic. I hear Hotel Dusk is pretty cool, but I've never played it.

Ghost Trick is great, Order of Ecclesia is also great, and I've never played 999. If I had to choose one I'd go with Ghost Trick, it's great.

Ghost trick is GREAT, but SHORT.

Ecclesia is GOOD, and PRETTY LENGHTY.

999 is I DON'T KNOW.

999 looks boring.

Order of Ecclesia IS great.

Largely going on what I'm told here - Ghost Trick is short, and doesn't have a ton of replay value, but it's an excellent experience, kind of like the Ace Attorney games. The gameplay is clever as hell and makes you feel as such. I admit I'm only half way through it because of that fucking stealth section, but even that first half is great.

Order of Ecclesia is probably my favourite of the DS Castlevanias. It's a lot more like the classic Castlevania games in the way it plays - it uses level select rather than one big castle to explore (although the final stage is fuckhuge and requires a ton of exploration just to itself), there's a ton of stuff to do, and most prominently it is downright punishing at some points. Not impossible, but a challenge. Until you complete it and restart on hardcore mode, then it's impossible. I'd say it's my pick of the three. I think you'll get the most hours of fun out of it.

I have no idea what 999 is.

I'm also going to match Archem and say that Hotel Dusk is one of the best DS games I've played. It's not the go-to game if you want action, and it has the same disadvantages as Ghost Trick, but as a story-driven game it's superb. The sequel is excellent too. I'd say if you spot it cheap to give it some consideration.
