I can't watch youtube on my phone, so I went and looked up the bill myself.
I personally think it's no immediate danger. It's too poorly worded and too poorly thought out to pass in Congress.
It'll probably do as well as the charging per-megabyte bill in Canada.

I heard about this a long time ago. Much as I support President Obama, him supporting this bill really ****** me off.

...wait, Obama is supporting this nonsense?
The ****?

I have literally never seen anyone else on the internet talk about this. Even in a forum that routinely features people playing through entire games and posting videos/summaries about it.

Like fruck said, it's probably going to fall on its face and be extremely unpopular.

He's mainly after the music/movie side of the bill. Any streaming of such that comes from an unimproved source will now be classed as a felony. I personally see this as the apocalypse.

Apart from porn, the main use of the internet among regular users ends to be gaming-based. Passing this bill is the most
ridiculous, horrific idea ever. It's going to destroy the internet as certain individuals know it.

It'll be reworded and modified if it ever hopes to be passed. Otherwise, it'll be shot down or cause tons of legal complaints until it is revoked or modified. Nothing to worry about.

Hope you're right. I love watching Let's Plays and Garry's Mod sketches. Also big on TF2 competitions!!

As everyone else has said, it's never going to pass in its current state. Banning streaming of any and all copyrighted works would be downright unenforceable. The guy's right that game streams/videos are transformative works - one person's experience or interpretation is not necessarily representative of the whole thing - and to make such things illegal would be to open a big can of worms and ban a ton of other stuff out there. Every non-official song and music video on Youtube would have to be taken down. Depending on the US' fair use/artistic licence laws, doing vocal/instrumental covers of songs could also be considered illegal. Same goes for a lot of art.

tl;dr it's too vaguely-worded and would result in a lot of hard work for the government, and governments don't like hard work.

Keep in mind that a number of companies can and will modify their EULA to allow this sort of thing. Indie developers, companies who love their fans, and companies who don't want to threaten their sales will surely be the first to write this in. Valve and their TF2 YouTube thing is perfect evidence of this.

I was thinking that actually, Archem. Valve are so right-on when it comes to bonding with customers. They're so
laid back and approachable and useful. They're just great. OH GOD! I LUCKING FOVE VALVE!!!

Also, I should note that the bill in it's current state uses the phrase "public performance" to note what is not allowed, which would also make cover bands, karoake (sp), and street performers illegal.
The bill is about as dangerous as a homeless guy's atom bomb.

ed: I just realized how obtuse that metaphor was.
A homeless man (who is also crazy) will draw a mushroom cloud on a cardboard box and call it dangerous.
I just remembered why I don't like to post minutes after waking.

Look, a homeless guy with an atom bomb can actually be pretty ****ing dangerous if he has a sledgehammer to detonate it.

Yeah, that was the main problem with that bill is that it uses the words public performance.  Performance can mean whatever they want it to mean.

This really freaks me out. It sounds like a huge start for the one world government and Obama is supporting it.  ****ing lovely.

Don't worry Drak. Obama also said something about taking out Summer vacation and disabling the internet. Last I checked neither of those happened.

Oh lawd, what will I do without my summer vacations?!

I dunno, perhaps make steps towards improving our abysmal drop in grade averages in schools?

Internet's whatever. I'm sure that's all out of context and basically a misleading, misinformed bunch of bullshit.

Hahaha.

I liked Obama. Now I like him a little more. He might've been elected mostly because he was black and the people saw it as good way of changing things, but he's one good guy. Over here? Every politician we elect is the same lazy bastard who can't be assed to do anything, unless selling our large government companies to the US counts. And our current president... First female president of Brazil! Yay! What has she done so far? ****ing nothing. Almost a full year and I haven't hear of a single thing she's made. Sure, she didn't screw up yet... Kinda hard to do that when you do literally nothing.

What is this Brazil you speak of? I've never heard of a Brazil. Where can I buy one?
Also, if I buy one will it come with a president?

Time for some elementary school level math!
He was elected in 2008.
What year is it?
2011-2008 = 3

godammit
Now we're getting annoying political ads.

Oh, definitely. I turned off my ad blocker because it kept ****ing with so many things, and because the ads here are occasionally hilarious.

You know that sig of mine? It was an ad I saw here.

Occasionally, a source of great laughter. Otherwise, a source of income to pay for your favorite websites.

I landed on "Health Care Reform Bill, allowing children to remain covered by their parents' insurance until the age of 26."

And I smiled. :)

Yeah. Might still have time to get that chipped tooth fixed.

Not that I really want to.
Title: Re: Here comes a ****storm

Its partly because of the extension that I was forced to transfer between community colleges. So many students just take 12 units worth to keep insurance, filling a seat for a month then leaving.

Yeah, my mom drills into me that I need to take at least 12 hours per semester, no matter what, or I'm off her car insurance.
