Megaman somewhere.  But really, there's a lot of good songs there, soundtracks to game specifics are hard to chose.

For me I think that Megaman 2's wily's stage is probably one of the best video game songs out there. Harvest Moon: Back to Nature has some really great tracks, they're all very light hearted and simple but work so well. And Mr. Gimmick has the best soundtrack of all NES games (though that one song from mega man 2 beats it).

I never really liked Wily stage 1 that much. I mean, it's a great track, but I didn't even remember that track until everyone on YouTube started gushing over that song. Like most of MM2's soundtrack, it sounded too much like it was made for a superhero movie more than a Megaman game, which is why I've always preferred 3's soundtrack. However, I was fond of Bubbleman's theme :)

Favorite soundtracks:
Anything by Tomohito Nishiura
Arcanum
Morrowind
Metroid (as a series)
Recurring Pokemon themes
Can't think of anything else.

You think I'd forget a theme from one of my top 5 games evar?
The theme is in part 3, and it starts with a "w".

Guess what it is?

*Spoiler*

It's the wind scene theme

There's some amazingly overlooked soundtracks which are brilliant.

-Shatter
-Final Fantasy 10
-Team Fortress 2
-Terraria
-Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
-Tales of Symphonia
-Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow

The songs are just so Spy Film-inspired and well orchestrated! I'll post a couple of my favorite themes from
some of these games so you can get a taster! Shatter is a breakout game, but the soundtrack has won awards!

Probably my favorite game song ever: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mHOr1Bh5e-k
Brilliant song from Shatter: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=759LSnZJMlQ&feature=related
Paper Mario. Makes me want to cry just hearing the tune again: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ibmn_Ok72og

Oh, childhood memories!!!

Too many songs to chose from!

But there's a few from Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy [Insert Roman Number], Golden Sun, Castlevania, Donkey Kong (Don't judge! They did have great music...) and others I forgot and might or might nor remember.

Things high on my list, with samples of what makes them awesome:

 - The Silent Hunter Series (The North Sea) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mLWMkADrbwQ)
 - The Golden Sun series (Felix's World Map V2) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tGbq6w5gn7M)
 - The Vietcong Series (Main Menu 2) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8MNzEwQnGAI&feature=related)

 - The Digital Devil Series (Sahasrara) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUQvRA0Lf-E)
 - Cave Story (Scorching Back) (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NU1jmb2VNc)
 - Almost the entire damn Brawl soundtrack.  Do I really need to give an example?

Oh, I forgot!

Musics from The Legend of Zelda games.

Like... Ballad of the Wind Fish! (From Link's Awakening, since Majora's Mask's sucks)

But Ballad of the Wind Fish really is one of my favourite.

-Ducktales (The Moon, Himilayas, Mines)

-Mother 3 (Fate, Natural Killer Cyborg, Porky's Theme, Porky's Pokies). I don't like Earthbound's soundtrack nearly as much. Kraken of the Sea was good, but nothing else in the game is really memorable to me. (Porky Means Business got old really fast.)

-Gimmick! (Happy Birthday, Aporia). Sunsoft always has a unique style of music in their games. It's half the reason I like Fester's Quest and Batman.

-Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door (Doopliss' Theme, Rawk Hawk's Theme, Shadow Queen: First Fight).

-Croc: Legend of the Gobbos (Adventure Begins, Tank of Neptuna) Adventures Begins popped back into my head. Most of the songs are the same theme, but they're done with enough style each time to not be so repetitive. So, it earned a spot in my PSP for that.

The Pokemon series have started to pick it up with the music, but with the decent music (D/P's Team Galactic Theme, B/W's Gym Leader Battle), there are also some annoying ones (anything played during a legendary battle).

Kraid theme from Metroid. I basically orgasm whenever I hear that.

Pretty much can't be fucked making a list. I know Shadow of the Colossus would be at the top of it. Deus Ex is in there somewhere up high. Megaman 2, definetly. Metal Gear Solid, also, not sure which specific one though. Mother 3 and Iji are high on the list. Duke Nukem 3D and Street Fighter 4 also. No More Heroes is in the list (a game I haven't even gotten around to playing). Silent Hill Shattered Memories has some really damn memorable music. One of the STALKER games is up there, hard to say which given they all basically use the same music.

Pretty much anything from Bionic Commando: Rearmed was awesome. The original game's music was cool and all, but that crazy remixing action brought it to new heights.

Favs - Not in any order:
1. Shadow of the Colossus
2. Donkey Kong Country 2
3. Sonic the Hedgehog 1-3 (Turns out MJ did the 3rd one. :P)
4. Bioshock (I LOVE This one)
5. Vagrant Story
6. Final Fantasy VI (The friggin Opera)
7. Chrono Cross (There's this really nice island feel to the tracks.)
8. FFXII (A lot of it I actually don't like but some tracks are just amazing. Eryut Village Especially)
9. Street Fighter 4 (OH GOD YES. Especially Cammy's Theme.)

Like... Ballad of the Wind Fish! (From Link's Awakening, since Majora's Mask's sucks)
I was so excited to hear this mentioned in Majora's (if nothing else, it sort of makes LA canon!) but the song in that game was totally different from the LA version. Major disapointment. :(

6. Final Fantasy VI (The friggin Opera)
Not much of a fan of this in game, but the rendition used for this for the PS port's final cutscene was EXTREMELY POWERFUL.

7. Chrono Cross (There's this really nice island feel to the tracks.)
Wonderful soundtrack. So good. I actually had this one imported from Japan (the only time I've ever done that) and was shocked to find that it has BASS. Tracks like Chronopolis, already great, sound so much more powerful when each THUM THUM shakes the room a little.

The Pokemon series have started to pick it up with the music, but with the decent music (D/P's Team Galactic Theme, B/W's Gym Leader Battle), there are also some annoying ones (anything played during a legendary battle).
Lengendary battles are a bit hit and miss. I think the Ho-oh fight music from HG/SS is amazing, but the Lugia was pretty awful. And Natako already pointed out the EPIC SHOWDOWN that is the final fight. (Sidenote: Gold and Silver are one of the few sequel games I can think of where you actually fight a rendition of yourself from the first game. SUCH AN AWESOME IDEA. Why isn't this used more often?!)

Though this Dungeon music isn't bad... it gets really repetitive. Especially since it's the same music for every single Dungeon, except the last.

And Lucas... Majora's Mask's "Ballad of the Wind Fish" is an insult to the original one from Link's Awakening. I was extremely disappointed to hear this... crap.
And you know what's even better? Ballad of the Wind Fish (the real one) was apparently supposed to be in Smash Bros. Brawl, but wasn't. WHY!?

Oh, and... you can all laugh at me if you want, but I did like a few of Animal Crossing's musics!
Title: Re: Top 25 video game soundtracks of all time

Yes, the original Ballad of the Wind Fish was something epic. Really worth going through eight dungeons just to hear it.

I have to agree with this. I remember getting all excited to hear the Ballad of the Wind Fish in Majora's Mask and then when I started putting the parts together, I was like...what the hell? This sounds nothing like it. It was a cool idea to put the different instruments together like that, but I guess that the fact that the C-buttons only allowed for limited melodies made the original Ballad of the Windfish impossible...or something.

I guess the title alone would suggest this.

HELL YEAH! Castlevania SotN rocks! My favorite Castlevania game and one of my top 5 games of all time.
I was actually gonna go with tragic prince, but I just decided on Bloodlines because bloody tears isn't as good as everyone says (I swear it's the Wily stage 1 of Castlevania), and Tragic Prince wasn't... memorable enough I guess.

But I do love its soundtrack, especially Tragic Prince (Duh), Crystal Teardrops, the prologue theme, and the remix of the Dracula battle theme from CVX.

Probably the coolest thing about the Ballad  was that you could play it at the egg any time after you got the Ocarana, which you could get as early as after the 3rd dungeon. Every time I beat a dungeon on my first playthrough, I'd go up to the egg and play the Ballad and listen to it with a newly added insturment and hearing the song get stronger and stronger. Really added to the sense of acomplishment and progression.

Yes, that was always fun to do.

I kind of wish they'd find a way to give us that sense of accomplishment over time in the newer games.

I'll throw something new on top of my list. How about Space Pirates (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-wRy3CL6sE) from Castle Crashers?

The Jet Set Radio/Future, Ollie King and Sonic Rush. Hideki Naganuma is so cool.

Super
Zero Mission

Good graphics, gameplay, and music, though.

I don't think it needed to be its own new series. It works perfectly as Metroid, just in 3D. It's so perfect that one simply can't complain. Also, the Wii port's controls were exceptional. A Prime three-pack is like a gift from God.

I loved the hell out of Prime, but wasn't a fan of the Wii controls. You essentially had to hold your arm agonizingly still to fire at what you were locked in on or otherwise you'd just miss all your shots. It gave me a hell of a cramp after a half hour. Also, the Wii controls simply didn't have enough buttons to handle all of the weapons and movement systems. I kept having a hard time firing missiles.

Prime 3 was more of what I liked, though the best part was the continuity!
What, you mean that the meteors from the first two games came from the same source and there are more coming?! And that the final boss from the first two games, THE metroid prime, is going to be the final boss this time around too, yet all three battles were 100% different?
Freaking awesome. Didn't really expect much of a unified plot from that series - gameplay and exploration moodiness alone more than covered up from a general lack of a story.

No, Xbox 360s have a bad reputation for overheating. Only the newest model has a fail-safe to counter this; the others need to be properly ventilated, and in some cases, they need to be extremely ventilated. Like, fans and cooling racks and all that. They're not as fragile as they seem, but they don't have good enough ventilation.

The gamecube was far superior, RE4 looked like crap on the PS2.
A huge step up from the N64 controls as well.

Lots of great games, can still be played on the wii. Unfortunately all games seem to have ceased to exist. I can still find ps2 games in stores. Even though the ps3 can't play PS1 and PS2 games over here.

I got it around christmas, with some metroid decor and a transparent control. And metroid Prime of course. First game i bought was super smash melee. Great games.
Played prime for the first time around new years eve. Had just defeated Parasite Queen when the clock stroke 12. But, I sucked and died from the time limit after that. Got metroid prime 2 for christmas same year it came out and played it on new years eve as well.
Got metroid prime 3 and the wii around new years eve and played it, loved it greatly. (Although the PED suit looks like crap)
Got Other M and decided to play it around new years eve as well, it was fun to see high quality boobs, but my grandma wondered whatever I was watching on tv.

Great series, Fps that changed what I thought of fps. For me - Metroid is first person.

Gamecube did have better graphics, but I never really like the controllers. RE4 didn't look like CRAP, but the Gamecube did look better. Besides, all the extras definitely made up for the inferior graphics.

Bottom line: GRAPHICS. AREN'T. EVERYTHING.

My Xbox 360 scratched two of my games. And some times, too, it wouldn't read the game disk. Or rather, it would work as if there was no CD in.
I've seen that "Open Tray" message far too much. However, I still prefer it over PS3, though probably mostly because I'm used to it and I hate the PS3 controller with a passion... the passion of the Christ.
I also prefer Achievement Points over Trophies, though that's a minor thing.

As for the Wii, well... had I one, I'd probably only own Super Smash Bros. Brawl.

I'm still curious as to how the 3DS works, but currently lack the funds and interest of buying one.

Oh, and yeah, music... uhm... I'd say Silent Hill's, even though they're not exactly always musics.

I modified my 360 early on for better cooling. Worth it if you ask me.

Also, back on topic. Castlevania II for two words. Bloody Tears.

Sounds like my old PSOne. When I say old, I mean old (http://retrothing.typepad.com/photos/uncategorized/2007/07/19/playstationone.jpg).
I had one of those!

LittleBigPlanet has a good collection of indie songs.
There's a couple that make me go "the **** am i listening to" but the majority of it's pretty awesome.

Gamecube did have better graphics, but I never really like the controllers. RE4 didn't look like CRAP, but the Gamecube did look better. Besides, all the extras definitely made up for the inferior graphics.

Bottom line: GRAPHICS. AREN'T. EVERYTHING.
They're porting RE4 and Code Veronica X to the Xbox and PS3, so you can finally have superior graphics (superior to both) and all the extra content.

I swear that's the Wily Castle 1 of Castlevania. It's great, but I always preferred Tragic Prince and Divine Bloodlines.

You know what? I've always loved the music in the Kirby series.
