Amy Winehouse passed away on July 23, 2011. I'll admit it. I sorta saw it coming and I feel as if she did this to herself. I still really respect her as a musician and I am sad to see her go. She was a wonderful jazz and soul singer, she was one of the main new pop singers to feature live instrumentation, and she was a gateway to a lot of other strong female artists. The girl has already proved influential and if she had been more prolific, she could have easily been considered a legendary artist.
Strictly focusing on a person's art, who is someone you had wished would stay with us, musician or otherwise? The artist doesn't have to be someone who passed away. It could just be one who went on hiatus. I'd be a liar if I said I didn't want to see Jimi live to see Prince or Hip-Hop, or for Kurt Cobain to have released more music.
I know for many of these people, who didn't pass away from natural causes or a clear accident, there were personal issues. I'd like to keep this topic away from discussing a person's life and to focus only on their art.

Dio. They say he's the man on the silver mountain.

This is going to sound odd, coming from me, but I grew up listening to Sublime, and such.
It would've been interesting to see where that would've gone were the vocalist not to die from heroin overdose.

I can't believe I didn't think if Lennon. I mean just shooting him is a dick move.

I miss Freddie...

Agreed.

Jimmy Hendrix, Frank Zappa, Freddy Mercury. The musical axis of excellence. And uh, deadcellence

I can't say I feel sorry for her since she's been going back and forth between drugs and rehab the last years.
I prefer when celebrities either die on their peak or go away silently. Better to remember them as the artists they were and not the lives they lived.

Now now Purple, make sure you add topic relevant stuff to your opinion posts, that how I get away with things. Because I really, really didn't like Amy Winehouse. Not one part of her, to be honest.
Kurt Kobain definitely. Well maybe. No. Well.
I mean, if Kurt Kobain stayed alive, that means Foo Fighters would not (might not?) have happened. And while I would love to entertain what Nirvana might have gone on to do if Kurt didn't off himself (OR SHOULD I SAY COURTNEY LOVE/THE GOVERNMENT DID IT), I wouldn't trade it for all the FF goodness.
I'd say Lennon. Not necessarily for his music, more for the person. I heavily doubt we'd be exploring galaxies due to his contributions to society, though. That just seems like HYPERBOLE.
Oh man, and Freddie Mercury. That guy, such a great character and singer, taken away too soon. Hells jeah, Freddie.
