Title: Sonic Generations: surprisingly good.
Post by: Grandy on November 28, 2011, 02:11:36 PM
Seriously, this is the first console Sonic game I managed to enjoy in years. Ever since Sonic Adventure.

It's not perfect of course, and very very short, but still well worth it. for an idea: I beat the game and am now replaying it! for fun! You know how long has it been since I played a game without caring to advance plot, just to have fun with it? a long, long time.

Also good Lord, the (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WsCdyOtiTKo) OST (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8-mstxss_FQ) is (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ldW2lOT-ZoM) AMAZING (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LyF_mi3ndI0)

It's alright, the story however, is crap.

The OST though is indeed, amazing.

Interesting.  I do have a soft spot for sonic.

It's hardly my spending priority right now though, I have so little money :p

I've heard "surprisingly good" used to describe fairly awful Sonic games for years. The bar is excruciatingly low now. That poor series and its fans have been dragged through the mud that any game that's remotely playable gets disproportionate praise for its quality... at least, at first.

Looked decent in the gameplay videos I saw, haven't had the chance to play it though.

I think all modern Sonic games are ****ing ****. However, this one has really caught my eye!

Pfft who CARES about the plot.

Mario has no plot FOR YEARS and NOBODY COMPLAINS.

Except GameFAQs people but they'd complain if a bag of gold came with every game.

Meh. I don't care about the music. I'm half deaf anyway.

Gameplay is what I need. It seems alright, but my PC can't get any close to running this so it won't really matter.

Weren't you colorblind as well?

Well, rent it first then. At least give it a try. For this puppy.

Hey, if they can afford to give money away like that, they could at least stop charging me $60 for a god damn game. That, and they could have used the money to make the game better, instead of trying to bribe me for higher review scores.

Sonic tries to have a crappy plot every game.

I heard it was slightly disappointing. That the 2d parts were great but 3d was terrible.

I've never really been a fan of Sonic... but this is a cute puppy.

A quick summary of the whole damn series.

Seriously. Is it just economically impossible to make a good 2D game anymore? Cuz those were pretty rad.

I've heard that the entire game is like a picture o the entire series.
Awesome at the start, but then it just devolves into awful.

Oh wow! You should try Limbo. Bought the game the other day and played it under the influence of... stuff.
My Gawd!

Hey, Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 were great.

Also, did anyone play Sonic Colors? That was pretty solid.

Secret Rings was good too, and the story was alright on that one. But my fave from modern sonic has to be SA2

Got some sonic people in ma' gang and they seemed excited about finally getting something playable.

Beside that I gotta say that them companies have been pushing out good 2d games lately.
We got Other M which was a great game, just not as good as the prime series.
Then we had New super mario bros which actually took me back to the good ol' times.
That donkey kong country was pretty neat as well, never been a DK fan but enjoyed the game either way.
And well, the latest kirby game looks downright rad.

...Other M wasn't 2D?
Not even close.

Also, Rayman Origins.
's pretty great. At least, from the demo it is.

Oh right, you're talking 2D and not platformers. I withdraw my previous statements.

The others had 2D gameplay (I haven't played DKC, so not sure on that one), so I believe they count.

Other M is considered in part 2d. In part.

So glad I'm not the only one who wasn't enamored with NSMBW. I mean, to be fair I'm not one for multiplayer and that seems to be the emphasis, really.

As for Sonic, I haven't played any of the games since Sonic 3 in Ye Olde Genesis Days, but my sister has it and seems to be enjoying it. Maybe I'm being too much of a nostalgia purist :B

Then there's also the fact you could do stuff like this. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dihOlhQPkpE)

Knuckles has gotten faster lately. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mzt-DOBTBck)
And yeah, I watched some gameplay of the 'Sonic 2006' stages in this game. Bleaurgh, the level design is marginally better. But still completely unplayable.

Is the Prime series considered in part 2 for the morph ball challenges?

Resident Evil 4 HD= $20. Best game evar made, and best in the series.
Final Fantasy 4 PSP Collection= $30. Comes with 3 games. FF4 and FF4TAY are AMAZING, Interlude not so much but still worth it.
Megaman 9 and 10= $20 combined. Awesome games
Sonic Generations= $60 for one game. Okay, but not worth the $60.
Metal Gear Solid HD= $60 for MGS2 Substance, MGS3 Substance, MG1 and MG2 for MSX and Peace Walker, most of which have some replay value. That's $12 a game, and each is amazing.

There are better things that cost way less or equal and will give you way more enjoyment. Maybe if the price drops, it would be a good buy.

I wasn't aware that it had the MSX games. I have it sitting gift wrapped in my closet, waiting for Xmas.

It's kind of sad buying your own gifts a month in advance. Anyone want to slap  Forever Alone up here?

I would do the same thing if I didn't exhaust my funds these months with gifts for other people. I think I deserve some gifts after all that hard work.
