Title: How do you like to read a book?
Post by: jsbill on July 11, 2012, 03:44:45 PM
Its really wonderful to see many kids that they are studying by having the books in bed, cycle, on the wall, hanging around the chair and even keeping on their parents back... end up with sleeping over the book..

You might have seen the kids in you house or around...

The reading method depends on the type of the book we are reading.

If it is really interesting, the book would travel many places along with us and we will not sleep untill we complete the same.. The book will also go through all our day to day activities along with us..

Nowadays more and more books are digitally published.. A shrinking economy and rising technology have transformed how, and how many, books are being published. In between all those things let me know how our DB members like to read book..

Either Hard copy (Print outs/in printed Book format) or in digital format...?

I know many of them would like to read by having a book in hand and taking whereevr they goes from kitchen to Rest Rooms... I even see some people reading books in bed..

But recently publishers are cutting back new releases and putting it in digital form...

If books are coming in digital format are we able to see such scenes..

Hm, I like owning a book.  I mean, you can't accidentally delete your book as easily if its sitting on a shelf and not in an ipod or something.  Plus, you can lend books to other people easier that way.  I'll read them in either format but digital is much more convenient.

I like books, but I find myself too distracted to sit down and read a good one these days.

Toilets, planes, busses, trains and the backseat of a car.
Only time I actually read books unless it's study-related.

Prefer the pockets over the hard covers though. They tend to be ridiculously huge and weight a ton. Of course I'm mostly reading fantasy or such and they tend to be quite a lot of pages. Just something charming over bringing it with you for those moments you are stuck in a seat and waiting for stuff to come to an end.

Reading something on a phone/whatever on the other hands feels silly. I might as well just start a game instead.

Shouldn't we move this if we plan on keeping it?

At least move it to all of all...

Did the bot just say that kids read on the cycle?
I think it'd be really hard to read while riding a bike.

I'm currently reading Robert E. Howard's Conan stories.
I can honestly say that Tower of the Elephant is one of the best things I've ever read.
Ed: Hardcover edition, btw

Call me completely lazy, unwilling, uneducated and narrow-minded, but why spend 20x the length of a story reading it when
you could just watch it?

I only like reading stuff if it's educational. Fiction bores me, as there's plenty of fiction out there already in other mediums.

Because what's the rush? If you're enjoying reading a book that takes 20 times longer than watching a movie, then you're entertained for 20 times longer.

I don't know, books just tend to be more capable of delving deeper into the story than other mediums can. And also, some books just don't translate well into movies but still make for awesome reads, making books the only format worth enjoying them in.

Yeah filmatizations of books suck. They just simplify stuff and make it look cool.
And so on.

In a book you can explain what a person is thinking or feeling. In a movie they just do stuff. It just becomes stuff that can be watched upon and look good. There's no explanations just viewing pleasure. Sure, fightscenes and such are cooler as a movie. But they might not look as you imagined them. In your head they might have been different, more less, flashier weapons ect. In a movie they just ruin everything you built up from the books according to some pesky producer.

Games based on movies suck but movies based on books suck harder. And of course books based on games can be pretty cool as long as it's some sort of spin off and not dramatization.

Actually, a TV series would be ideal for book-to-film translations, especially with a series. Assuming the director, actors, and film crew are of quality, and the budget is high enough, it could work wonderfully. A book per season seems a little fast, but it doesn't need to progress that quickly if the team behind it doesn't want it to. A TV series can last a lot longer than any movie, so it can take the time to explain everything the books worked so hard to include, only in a more attractive, more digestible format.

Yeah, I've heard that Game of Thrones is very faithful.
Really, the story pacing in shows is usually better, in my opinion.

I don't read much. I pick up books every now and then on my routine thrifting, but it's all stuff that everyone reads at some point. Frankenstein, The Jungle, Oedipus, etc.

While on the subject, The Book Thief movie (if it ever gets done) will probably be the first film I've seen that's been made in the past 10 years. It better be good, or I'm done with the whole industry.

I read a little. I find '10 ways to please my man' is a very informative article to ponder whilst waiting for my dental procedures. Recently, I have just finished reading the heart warming novel 'Go Dog Go'. I found it a compelling and disturbing look at the canine psyche.

I read the first 164 pages of this very odd graphic novel (http://www.transientman.com/).
It's about a homeless guy who can see through dimensional barriers and saves the universe because the monsters he sees tell him too.

It's a bit strange.
The last 50 pages cost $45 and a physical copy.
So I haven't seen how it actually ends.
