Everyone knows about SSB4 so why not discuss who we want new in it and why?
And there's a rumor about SSB Memories for the 3ds. How do you feel about 2D characters?
The character I want most is Isaac from goldensun. Why? Because he can be a unique character that fights with psynergy! They could even make him class change on the fly which would change his specials and attributes such as damage and knockback etc.
I don't know if it's possible, but I'd love to see Crono kick some ***.
And as of recently, I want to see Shulk from xenoblade chronicles in it because he could have some unique abilities as well.
Also I'd like to see Demise or Ghirahim from LoZSS.
Discuss!!
-

You mean like Pokemon Trainer?
I really want to see Megaman.
Usually when people think of the character, they think of the NES/SNES anyways, so it's perfect.
Makes more sense then, say, Solid Snake.
I think they'd have to work him hard to not make a Samus clone, though.
-
cloud and sepheroth and tefa and cait sepheroth
-
similar to pokemon trainer, but it's the same guy. but isaac would change into say offense, defense and agile classes. And his final smash could be the ninja class haha. And Cloud's not gonna be in it Meiscool
-
And Cloud's not gonna be in it Meiscool
He's joking :V
-
I've never been more serious about anything ever.

Use Megamans powers from the first one.
GutMan, Fireman, Iceman, CutMan, Bomb Man.
There's no way he could be a close from those powers. Maybe have a charge up blaster like Samus, but so does Lucario.
-
I know he wasn't serious. He's a bright dude.
I forgot to mention megaman. Add him too lol.
They can get rid of R.O.B. I dont really care much for him lol. But after reviewing Brawl's list I didn't see anybody that really HAS to go. They might as well at like 7 to 15 more characters. The fans want a slightly larger roster!
-
Odds are the roster will get shorter if not stay relatively the same.
-
I can't see how you can cut the roster without making everyone rage.
-
I'm sure 95% of the smash bros fans would rage about that.
-
Fans will rage. HAL(kirby peeps) won't be doing the game. Smash bros follows a very similar system like the kirby games.
Apparently namco bandai will be working on this one. So it's a great chance it turns out like som abominational fusion between tales of symphonia and soul calibur. Or something.
Doubt they'll keep all characters sicne they burned half the crew in SCV
-
Yeah, that is how several games work. They make 10 at first, then 20, then 50, and at 50 they realize "huh, if we keep making new games, it is gonna take more effort than it is worth to keep this many characters, so we need to cut back now". Thus, they shorten the size or make more clones.
Fighting games that don't reuse movesets/models are a good example. Dynasty warriors is a good example too.
If they were smart, they would make "character skins" rather than new characters. For example, a megaman skin for samus would be really great if they didn't want to make the effort to make a whole new character. Same goes for Roy over Marth, Issac over Ike, etc.
-
They should cap the characters at 40. what was brawl 34 to 36 or somethuing?
-

This was probably the reason they introduced assist trophies in brawl. Less fanboy rage without having a roster of 80 characters.
I do kind of wonder if they'll turn any characters they omit from the fourth game into assist trophies instead. Hopefully they'll retain the assist trophies even though the franchise is changing hands...I kind of like those things. They're like...pokeballs but with more variety. XD
-
Lose nintendogs.
-
Nintendogs is indeed dumb. Especially that it doesn't affect computer players at all (but then, that also apply to the temporary darkness effect too).
In terms of playable characters, I wish to see Mewtwo back into the game. Although I am partial to Pichu (mostly because SSBM clones are... not that close really. They were all Luigi-like in the way that their movesets had different effects), I understand him being axed. Mewtwo, however, I really wish would be back ; the serie need more playable villains (Meta Knight, Wolf, and Dedede does not count. They're rival characters, and two of those aren't even evil to begin with).
But what I *truly* want are features. SSBB suffered from a lot of non-sensical decisions that prevent it from being the definitive SSB experience, even if you exclude the character roster issues.
(incoming wall of text coming ; if you only wanted my opinion on characters, stop reading here)
The most infamous ones are the equalized gravity for everyone and the tripping. Likewise, the new default damage handicap is *infinitely* less flexible, effective, and overall fun to mess with than the base stats editing of previous games. The level editor was also ridiculously limited, including a lot of artificial restraints (mods shown that a lot of its limits are artificial) ; I'm not asking for a Starcraft 2 'practically a dev tool'-level of flexibility with a programming engine but something that isn't limited to a grand total of 3 backgrounds and about 6 moving platforms would be nice.
Likewise, the new Adventure mode was... well, a lot of hit-and-miss, mostly on the 'miss' part, ironically making it inferior to the far shorter SSBM adventure mode. I prefered SSBM's, where you actually visited individual dimensions instead of that huge but bland & generic unified world. Likewise, Tabuu is an absolutely horrible villain (in the way that he's not good)... and is also extremely facultative in the way that the Subspace Army could have been replaced by the Dark Matters and Tabuu with Zero and it would have actually worked better (I think I've read somewhere about dev team notes that state that the Subspace Army was initially meant to be the Darkspace Army with Zero at their head but that Sakurai thrown a tantrum until they changed them for generic 'no-name' villains).
The story suffered a lot from the decision to include no text... and well, let's just say that they should have taken some pages from the Soul Calibur serie, regarding the single-player mode.
Finally, this is a nitpick but the phone keypad-like for entering names and write descriptions is an absolute pain and really make me wish for the old keyboard screen used in, well, pretty much every other video game ever.
-
SSBB had 35 characters total.
So if we take out characters I wasn't too fond of, such as R.O.B. we're down to 34. Characters I won't mind being taken out would be Falco, Lucario (although i really liked him), Marth and even Lucas.
So now we're at 30.
So if we have the cap at 40 now we can add new characters that I would like to see.
Isaac (Goldensun), Shulk (Xenoblade Chronicles), Demise (LoZSS), Ghirahim (LoZSS), Lloyd (ToS) and Megaman.
That's 6 new comers I am hoping for and look! We have 4 characters left over so return all but R.O.B. lol
-
Various literal clones can be taken out, too.
Like, say, Toon Link.
I doubt Falco is going to be removed, but Lucario...most likely.
Gotta make room for the new generation, after all :V
-
No, **** you. I like all the characters, clones included.
-
Lloyd (ToS)
I'd take Kratos and his sexy voice over Lloyd any day. Ohhhhhh yeah.
-
Toon Link is my favourite character to play.
I just have a feeling, from the mentality of the designers, they're extraneous and could be removed safely.
-
They need a young/toon link.
If anything should be removed, it should be: olimar, wolf, rob, lucas (although I really like him), ike (another one I really like), lucario, diddy, and possibly snake/sonic (only remove sonic if knuckles is not there).
Why them? Because they are all new, and most of them are single-series character or clones of characters already from the series. Ike I love, but FE is not as popular as say... TLOZ. Diddy is very unique, but I know no one personally that liked to use him.
EDIT - However, I would prefer only rob be removed.
-
I'd like to see Megaman and a custom robo, as well as bring back a few characters from melee, especially Roy (Roy's ma boi.) Also, a new anthropomorphic Pokemon. Mewtwo and Lucario were both kind of lame as characters, IMO. It'd also be nice to get a better balance of hero/villain characters, as most villains were heavy, and they were only one 7th or so of the total lineup.
-
Lloyd's a main character though, not Kratos. But for your sake he should be an assist trophy and he can say your favorite quote lol.
Ike is the man and should stay, but I see what Meiscool is saying. But Ike was in 2 games not one lol. Ike could turn into his adult form for a skin change and his other Lord class and Vanguard costume.
Diddy should stay cause DK needs a buddy.
I think everyone is in agreement that R.O.B. can go and nobody will care.
And for Olimar, I doubt he'd go because Pikmin 3 is coming out, ya know?
-
Crash Bandicoot
Isaac
Megaman
Crash Bandicoot
For the love of all that is holy, do not let Waluigi be in it
Quote
Mewtwo
Crash Bandicoot
Team Rocket Trainer
Seriously, not ****ing Waluigi
Commander Shepard says this is his favorite fighting game on the Citadel
Earthworm Jim
Phoenix Wright
Deadpool
I would like to see Lucario replaced with Mewtwo. Why? Because **** Lucario. Ike was only good for being replaced by Final Fantasy characters on Brawl Vault. Dedede can stay. He is cool. R.O.B. is okay. I can actually use him decently, but no big loss as long as I can keep Game and Watch.
I would smile to see any of the above come true. Some were obvious jests. I would like to see Crash, Earthworm Jim, Isaac, and NOT WALUIGI DAMMIT. I'm so serious about this I used the shift key instead of caps lock.
-
I would...kind of like to see Phoenix Wright, although that would be extremely weird.
When you use his final smash, the music changes to the Cornered! theme from the first game. That would be legendary.
-
I don't think he would fit as a character. Maybe an assist trophy, though.
I'd like to see Ganon. Like, the Ganon from "A Link to the Past" since his height is more reasonable than the one from "Ocarina of Time" and I don't want a freaking swine like in "Twilight Princess".
I'd like Mewtwo to replace Lucario. I don't like Lucario. He sucks. I want Mewtwo back. Or have both, whatever.
King K. Rool would be cool, too. In my opinion. Yours are all invalid if they disagree.
Any female character that I can't think of. Seriously, out of 35 characters, like, what, 4-5 are females? Too lazy to go look that up. And that's including Jigglypuff, even. Needs more females.
Besides that, I don't know. Nothing comes to mind right now. Maybe characters from Golden Sun. And Lyn. from Fire Emblem Whatever. Because Natako. That's all.
-
Lyn's an assist trophy already, so it's pretty much granted that they considered her and then gave her the big red x. :P
-
Needs moar battle toads.
-
YES
That would be awesome.
-
The story suffered a lot from the decision to include no text... and well, let's just say that they should have taken some pages from the Soul Calibur serie, regarding the single-player mode.
Like the latest game? SCV that only focused on two characters and was the most generic crap seen, even for soul calibur?
I'd say they'll cut just about every clone and keep it simple. Most villains will probably appear as bosses just like meta ridley.
Pokemon trainer, jiggleypuff and lucario will die painful death and make room for something new like Zoroark.
Falco and Wolf might just go and falco turn into a assist trophy.
No one like wario, he and luigi and bowser can go. Luigi as a skin for mario and bowser as a boss of some kind.
Ness should get replaced with Lucas, more people played Mother 3. Neither of the games were released outside japan anyway.
Pit got a flashy game, his space is probably secure if they're gonna do more of those. Olimar will stick with a new game coming up, G&W, ROB and Ice climbers will probably get removed though.
Snake and sonic will both be cut, they've been guest characters. Time for some new ones.
Wouldn't surprise me if both toon/young link and zelda was removed.
Marth will probably go just because you don't need two sword people when link is around as well.
And let's go with Meta knight being reduced to a boss or assist trophy.
That leaves us with 17 characters. And room for 3 new ones to hit 20.
-
Soul Calibur V was a bad example (it was infamously rushed and suffered from a focus on multiplayer that actually took away instead of adding to the game). I meant the *serie*, refering to the modes that were actually good.
Jigglypuff should stay ; her unique moveset and emblematic status guarantee her spot. Pokémon Trainer and Lucario, I am more to agree (Lucario is 100% facultative and has a really bad gimmick).
Wolf was certainly not welcome. Falco could stay but isn't a very exciting clone character compared to, say, Luigi.
Wario, I really like his addition... although not how he actually play. Luigi should definitely stay in, especially with his moveset which has developed to make him very strategically different from Mario. Bowser is also one of my favorites and personally, should stay in.
Earthbound was released outside of Japan, for your information. Both Ness & Lucas deserve their spots.
And I do not see G&W and Ice Climbers being removed given their unique gimmicks and gameplay. Rob was also a nice surprise but as a generic character, I won't trhrow a tantrum.
For Snake & Sonic, it vary. But I'd like to see them back... hopefully, Sonic will not be rushed in so much and will be carefully designed like Snake (Sonic's skins are lame and he's overall fairly unpolished).
Zelda is here to stay. Toon Link, not sure if he'll stay or replaced by Young Link again.
Marth is representation from Fire Emblem, which is another big serie. He has also vastly differently gameplay from Link. He definitely should stay.
Meta Knight, though, I can agree on becoming a boss or assist trophy ; he's fairly/extremely overrated as a character anyway (and in SSBB, he is in hilarously huge need of nerfing).
Considering the serie's nature and the roster found in many crossover fighting games, I absolutely don't see the need for frantically removing characters.
-
Nobody's gonna want a 20 character roster. If they want to make a good product, they can't just cut the roster in half just becuz it's too much work. The fans want to play with as much nintendo characters as they can. If they're gonna cut characters, they should do a voting poll of who they really want to stay in the game.
As long as they put in the effort, they can accomplish a 40 character roster. Plus when they do, they'll feel good about their accomplishment. Why? Because fans will be satisfied instead of highly disappointed. They can cut back on a story mode because we really don't need an indepth one. It's a multiplayer game and should focus mostly on that and wifi play. Don't **** up the series!
-
It nv is... And we will rage
20 characters is just stupid and ridiculous. They're taking out all of the unneeded extra stuff though. The primary focus is on gameplay, balance and control blah blah blah. If they made 35 characters with all that extra stuff in Brawl, they can deal with 35-40 characters without extra stuff in the new one.
-
Sonic and Snake will probably both go. Nintendo got the rights to use them for Brawl but not for the Smash series as a whole (correct me if I'm wrong), so they'd have to buy them again. And I'm quite sure they'll throw another two third parties in it to replace them. You know, keep the variety.
Sucks though, because I love Sonic.
I was under the impression that Kojima was practically begging for Snake to be in Smash, so I wouldn't be surprised to see him show up again. Sega and Nintendo seem to have a good relationship, so he might show up again, too.
-
Most likely, all the characters that have appeared in two or more of the games thus far will be in for the entire series, however long it may last, simply because they've been around so long, and people are used to them. At least for console games. Handheld games, if they ever happen, may have to make more cuts. Many of those from SSB/M were the first-string lineup for Brawl, so removing too many, or even a few really, would be disorienting to those who've played the entire series. If cuts are going to be made, most or all clones should go, and the roster should be rounded out to about 30 or so, a nice compromise between 20 and Brawl's roster.
Sonic, most likely, will survive, and I hope they introduce Knuckles as a PC, because he is a distinct character from the series who also has a very different moveset from Sonic. Perhaps adding Shadow as a skin for Sonic will help people warm up to him some, as he's been in a lot of Sonic games for GC/GBA/Wii/DS. I know I will only play as Wario with his skin from the original game, because I feel Wario's entire franchise derailed somewhere around 2004. But that's another rant for another day.
I do love this series though, and I feel that, sadly, the Pokemon lineup has been poorly represented. Lucario and Pichu both had their gimmicks, but the novelty quickly wore off. The point is to avoid taking damage, so Lucario's strategy is risky, and he starts out underpowered. Pichu was... a choice probably made under the influence of military-grade hallucinogens. Or duress. Mewtwo would be a better choice, as he's the iconic demi-god of the original 151. As for the Trainer... Whatever. I neither love nor hate him.
A possible contender, I think, would be Cecil from FFIV, since there have been at least 3 incarnations of the game for Nintendo consoles. Snake's spot looks shaky to me, since the Metal Gear series was mostly on the Playstations. Diddy, Iceclimbers, G-dub and Ike might stay simply for their uniqueness, to make the trophy collecting for the different modes more diverse and challenging, and those with upcoming or recent games will probably float through for another game at least.
-
I think there'll be a split with characters. For the 3DS they might have Isaac because he was on a handheld etc. There's a rumor about 2D classic characters on 3ds and I personally would hate fighting as weak sprited characters
-
From what I understand he was going to be in melee but had to be cut.
Apparently, he asked too late in development, and they just didn't have enough time or resources to get him in, so it never happened. The point I'm getting at is that I don't think Nintendo will have to worry about licensing out Snake, since his inclusion seems to be voluntary. I also don't think Nintendo is in the business of paying for the rights to include third-party characters (which is why the first two games had no third-party characters).
-
I really didn't care much for third party anyways. And I'm tired of hearing about how Megaman would be a Samus clone. He doesn't shoot rockets and he has a huge variety of gun attacks to choose from. Sure they may be slightly similar, but no, there won't be a clone.
I hope they get rid of tripping cause that always bugged me. You gotchur flow goin' then all the sudden u trip and **** just goes to hell. I did however like the multiple air dodging. I was a fan of that.
-
And I miss the times when everyone could kill people with their throws. And... okay, no, nevermind, don't bring anything back from SSB64.)
I remember the good old N64 days when I used to go through the entire classic mode just judo warrior-ing people off of the stage...Those were fun times. Now I rarely ever use throws anymore. >.>
-
They can get rid of tripping haha.
I had an idea for Shulk though. He can use his monado skills, but they could only be used when he hits people, but the perk is his monado skills are slightly more powerful than other's specials. Example: He can use Monado Speed to increase the invincibility time when dodging by a few frames for like 10 seconds. Monado Shield will reduce damage dealt to him and half the knockback from heavy hits; 10 seconds or so. Monado Cylone (his up special) would act like a third jump and it will create a semi large wind attack surrounding him, but weak damage and semi ok knockback. And obviously he would have Monado Buster, a long range heavy attack but is easy to dodge (like falcon punch or ganondorf's punch). But because his specials need to be cooled down, his double jump would be slightly above average (plus he can jump high in the game anyways :P) His over all stats though would be average so he's not over powered. Lol i guess I had more than one idea :P
What do you think of it?
-
SSB has never had any kind of "buff" moves or cooldowns, so I don't think it would fit.
IF they put him it, it would be more like:
Up B: Monado Speed (pause then quick move, like pikachu's)
Down B: Monado Shield (Similar to Fox/Ness)
Side B: Stream Edge/Air Slash (Weak horitzonal ranged attack)
B Monado Buster (Charge B like Marth/Ike's)
Smash: True Monado + Time Stop for a few seconds.
-
It can easily be applied. Just give him an aura when he can use the monado. And it'd be stupid to give him moves that act like other characters. It's like lucario, he gets stronger the more damage he has. And buff moves can be a new mechanic. Use ur imagination man!
Shulk can be a strategist fighter. When he has high percent, shield will help him survive or speed to improve dodging for a short period of time. I do like the final smash tho. He can be made into a very unique character. Sorta hard to use likke Olimar, but worth it if you use him correctly
-
Also his other skills can be used as regular attacks. Back Slash would cause more damage and knockback if u hit an opponent from behind. oooo the possibilities
-
Also his other skills can be used as regular attacks. Back Slash would cause more damage and knockback if u hit an opponent from behind. oooo the possibilities
Possibilities that would get fans to rage more than tripping though. Just imagine if they added backstabb damage as a thing, playing a 1vs1vs1 match would be impossible.
-
Hahaha true. they can just make it knockback slightly farther from behind, but not by much. Or if using in front its weak, but strong from behind.
-
With ROB, they made his laser eyes more powerful the longer you waited before using it again, so if they wanted to use Monado the 'aura' could be a similar system to that. As for Megaman being a clone, the only real similarity is the cannon. Down-B could easily be Armor Armadillo's shield instead of bombs, or perhaps changing to one of several other weapon choices, like bubbles or boomerang. Not sure about Up-B move though.
-
Oh yeah, it did haha. Like in xenoblade...
Shulk relied on the monado to help him etc, which can apply to SSB4. So having his Monado skills having to cool down will balance him out from being over powered. I guess when he uses a monado special, he can use his alternative special move Battle Soul to speed up the process but take let's say 25-35% damage. Or he can use Stream Edge as side B to keep opponents at a distance while he awaits to use the monado again. Just a thought...
-
Oh yeah, it did haha. Like in xenoblade...
I think you're starting to overthink this buddy.
-
I just have ideas
-
Ike came out 3 years before brawl. june 2010 xenoblade came out in japan so hes not too new. Plus ssb4 wont release til later 2013 or late 14
-

Xenoblade, last story and pandoras tower didn't even have release dates for north america to begin with though.
Ike was in two different games, second game had been released when brawl came out (since Sothe and Micaiah is a trophy)
Since namco is kinda making this I bet we'd get some namco guest characters if anything.
-
Uhm... about Namco... you should play the Tales series.
As for a Soul Calibur character... if they put one, I want it to be either Voldo or Dampierre. Anyone else, meh...
-
We'll see what they do. And I'm pretty sure the American release doesn't matter. Hardly any Americans knew who Marth was when he was put in Melee or Roy.
Shulk has the capability of being a unique and fun character. Fans can influence characters in some way. An example would be Ermac. Created because fans thought he was a secret character in the first one. We have no idea what game developers are thinking. A good example of that is the Zelda series. Surprised the **** out of us with Windwaker.
And I would hate seeing Pacman. Wtf would he do? He can be an assist trophy though.
-
lol
Shulk will never be in ssb unless someone hacks a PSA into the game. Though it is fun to think up of move-sets for him, it is pointless to argue him getting into the game.
-
Why's that?
-
Xenoblade is pretty good as a game, but not exactly popular or well known. Several other characters would get Shulk's slot just from that.
Ike is pretty popular in Japan, as was Marth/Roy. Every other character is pretty well known and has multiple games with them in it (excluding R.O.B.\Ness\Lucas).
-
Word, we'll just wait and see in about 2 years
-
Maybe not many games have R.O.B., but R.O.B. has multiple games. :P
R.O.B. the Robot - Angry Video Game Nerd - Episode 100 - Cinemassacre.com (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvCCgPDcnvQ#ws)
-
And I think the Mother series is big in Japan.
I know that, but as far as I know Ness/Lucas were only in one Earthbound game each.
Marth has been in 3 I believe, Ike 2.
-
On top of that, they did a North American release of Shadow Dragon for the DS about the same time as the new Nintendo consoles came out, so people could see where he came from and why he was chosen for Melee/Brawl. Perhaps they will take a similar angle with ROB and Pit, and bring back a lesser-known character for nostalgia's sake.
Speaking of horrible peripherals, the PowerGlove needs to be a super-weapon equip item.
-
I wish they would've made Adult Ike a skin on Brawl... But I guess that would've been too much work so they made him a sticker
-
Waiting for Issac.
He's in three titles.
Two for the GBA and one for the DS.
-
Same here, the man deserves it. Megiddo or whatever it is can be his final smash. Nobody wants to get hit by that thing... Nobody...

I'd prever Ragnarok or Odyssey
Or Grand Gaia.
-
Grand Gaia would probably be way overpowered since I imagine it would affect the whole battlefield. Still, would be cool to see. Problem with that is that it's not specific to Isaac like Ragnarok and Odyssey are. My money would be on Ragnarok just because of how recognizable it is even to non-GS fans.

I would prefer Ragnarok in the first place myself. Just, a giant sword crashing down in front of him, that stays in the battlefield and slowly diggs into the ground, before creating an explosion. Just like in the game. :D
-
i mean no matter what, Isaac's gonna be a bad ***. They can make a summon an assist trophy. Which by the way I loved because they were pokeballs but with things from other games.
