Title: Black and White 2
Post by: Prpl_Mage on October 07, 2012, 11:57:32 AM
As in - Pokémon, not that other game.

Anyone planning on getting it? I am, gonna spend a couple of hours on a plane in November so this would be some great fun. I love pokemon games, you can play them for hours and still not get bored with it.

Yes, I do plan on getting one or both of them.

I really only want one, but my brother always plays the one I don't. It's practically tradition, and I know he won't have money for it when it comes out, so I may end up having to get it for him.

*shrug*

I can't find it enjoyable anymore. Whenever I play the new ones, it feels like I'm playing the old ones again and again.

Huh. That's kinda what I like about them. Same concept, introduce some new ideas. Double battles, triple battles, rotation battles, new type combinations ect.

And yet, he's a complete jackass to me. Go figure.

Yeah he may act like that but you both probably know that deep down there's some brotherly love

I gave up in the 2nd gym-ish of Black. I just didn't care at all for having to relearn 100% of everything again. Felt cut off from the stuff I liked.

No plans to get the sequels, or to play these games any more. I'm over them.
Title: Re: Black and White 2
Post by: Archem on October 07, 2012, 10:59:41 PM
You say "re-learn" like it's hard/a bad thing. It's actually really easy to figure out what's what. Moves are mostly the same, types are the same, game progression is the same, and if anything's a type other than normal that early in the game, they make it blatant as hell. It's also exactly what people seem to want - something new in their Pokémon. If you only played to the second gym, then gave up, that's a massive shame.

I mean with the Pokemon themselves. I like trying new ones sometimes too, but I've found that I try to use the same few in every game and tracking them down and catching them is one of the best parts for me. Can't do that in Black. Every monster is new. I had no idea if my team was worth a darn or if I'd get stomped in some upcoming gym. It bothered me, quickly.

They've added old mons to the regional dex.  So u'll be able to catch some oldies with the newies.

On a side note I like the new special and physical feature for attacks because it allows all moves to be either or using a specific stat.  The battles have greatly improved in strategy as well.  I just don't like it when people quit when they know I've beaten them over wifi and don't give me my winning point.  I hate people that do that.

I loved black and white. It was such a return to form after Diamond and Pearl, I thought.

Having said that, I won't get this sequel.  I'm only really interested in finding new pokemon (Kinda the opposite of Sai) and seeing what team I can make and what cool moves and combinations I can use.  This seems like a fancy version of the usual 'yellow, crystal, emerald' versions and I don't bother with them.  Apart from Yellow, of course. That was my first one, though.

Tell me about it. I hate playing games that I don't know everything about immediately. Such a waste of my time. That's why I only play sequels.

So you missed out on platinum which I personally thought was the best game yet? Diamond and pearl had some issues, like huge issues. A fire elite 4 who had 2 fire types. Small diversity of pokes ect ect.
The platinum righted all the wrongs, upped the difficulty and added all these things that just made the game so much more enjoyable. Wouldn't surprise me if I've spend over 300hours on that one.

If I got it right about B/W2 it's basically a sequel since there's a new storyline, some changes in areas and trainers ect. Older gen pokes are in it and a heap of guest trainers can be fought such as that blasted Cynthia or Lance.

You're missing the point though; the story, the baddies, beating the champion and all that are fun, but not the reason I get the games. I get 'em to make a party to fight my friends.  Hell, my old class had an elite 4.

So it doesn't really matter if they change bosses around or whatever.  The game really begins for me after I've won and I'm trying to get my smeargol a specific move or something.

The inability to catch 6 dittos and go through the whole game with them ruined pokemon white for me. Perhaps this is made better in white 2?

I picked it up yesterday and played for about five hours after work.  No Dittos, but I caught a MAREEP FUNK YEAH.  Also, Genesect event via Wi-Fi.

I am officially retiring my badges after these games.  I picked up Black 2, and I am experiencing the usual hype from initially starting the game.  Hey, cool.  Pokemon.  Oh wait, I played this before.  Like 7 times.

The only thing the Pokemon games have going for them at this point is the post-game and competitive battling, but official tournament rules are garbage, and aside from this, nobody seems to want to play anymore.  Myself included.  This new generation makes things too easy.  There was once a time where a player could use a Butterfree and somehow make it usable, but now there is a very noticeable divide of usable Pokemon and garbage ones.  I'm looking at you sandstorm teams.

Unless the next iteration of the game offers something new (honestly at this point I'd settle for a graphical overhaul and see an entire game done in full 3D, just to see what it would look like), I'm afraid it is time to grow up and walk away from this series.

Kinda like Colosseum and X D?

Everytime. Nothing beats having a theme and going for it. I've had FF summons, Metal gear solid code names, pretty much everything.

Ironical I gave the "dreameaters" in KH Dream drop distance pokémon names. Vicious circle that one.

I just have to name one of my new pokes butt-stallion. I will pop in that game 5 years from now and remember Borderlands 2 and Handsome jack's diamond pony

Nay, nothing like Colosseum and XD.  Those were nothing like the handheld iterations.  I want wild pokemon and whatnot.

I nickname my tourny Pokemon.  Infernape is Rafiki, Empoleon is Prinny, Ursaring is Yogi, Exploud is Billy Mays, Smeargle is Bob Ross, Alakazam is Blue Raja, Houndoom is McGruff, etc.

Haha those are insanely awesome!  I named my Brotodile for HG Reptar.  All my fossil Pokes are named after timepieces, so I've got Armitron (Kabutops), Rolex (Omastar), Relic, Seiko, and so on.  Also, Magikarp is Vagikarp.  Actually, most names are puns.  Next gen I think I'll name everything after alcoholic drinks and various Value Menu items.

It is acceptable, but only as a $6.00 eBay purchase.  It feels more like a Wiiware or in this case DSware title than anything else.  There are far more full games out there that are worth that hefty pricetag.  I'm looking at you  Ace Attorney 5, Professor Layton VS Ace Attorney, and Shin Megami Tensei IV in the foreseeable future.

If properly executed, that could have been a potentially interesting side-story PETA came up with.  Pokemon revolt against their trainers and regain supremacy of their world.

How large is your team?  I had 4 or 5 at levels... 15-17?  Anyways, all i know is that my Magby kicked the 3rd gyms ***.  Accept for his
Dwebble
I had to switch him out cuz i didn't trust it.

Full team. Lucario, Magby, Oshawott, Growlithe, Magnemite, and Swadloon.

It was much more than I needed, but I like to be prepared, since I am legendarily known for reaching the Elite Four horribly under-leveled. Like, 20-30 levels short.

our team is so similar its scary lol.  So far I've got my Oshawott, Riolu (tookk me forever to find him), Magby, Whirlipede, Magnemite.  But why do you have two fire bulls?  My sixth guy will show up in the wild eventually.  I have a strict new rule of no legendary against the Elite Fo.

Btw we should exchange friend codes for the hell of it.  0175-9167-5556 Ragnell

If your teams weren't so big you'd probably never reach the elite 4 underleveled.

I mean. ****. I played through the first 3 generations *so* many goddamn times, and I have never had that problem.
So big? Like, a full team? I don't like wandering around with less than that, since I'm inflexible type-wise.

That flexibility actually made it easy as hell to get to the E4, but once I get there, I can only take out two or three. The fourth is usually armed to the teeth with crazy nonsense, and I've basically waded through six people by then (Max Potions on every Pokémon), and there's still a champion? Really, the only way you can get through that without a full team is if you level your half-team to the 70s or 80s.

our team is so similar its scary lol.  So far I've got my Oshawott, Riolu (tookk me forever to find him), Magby, Whirlipede, Magnemite.  But why do you have two fire bulls?  My sixth guy will show up in the wild eventually.  I have a strict new rule of no legendary against the Elite Fo.
I have always had a no-legendaries rule. I only collect them, but excluding the ending to White, I never use them. Anyway, it's not unusual to have similar teams this early in the game. I have two fire types because I love the **** out of Growlithe and Arcanine (this one's in a Premium Ball, since I consider him special), and Magby kicks some serious ***. My other options aren't quite as fun as a guy who knows fire, poison, and dark moves, and aren't quite as good as I'd like. As for Riolu, I pretty much found mine three or four wilds into that area. I haven't seen any others. Lucky me.

I only ever had a solo-primary in my first playthrough of Red. It was boring, and I hated that everything else was useless. It's just not worth it to me to play that way.

I used to go through the entire game using only sweeping moves, but ever since I've learned to use strategy, I've been laying down the stat lowering status effecting pain.  It's more fun that way too. imo

Got myself a drifloon from the dream radar. Nifty thing that one.

So, how does the dream radar work? Well it's only for the 3ds and can be downloaded for a slight amount of money.
You basically turn around and shoot at clouds to collect points, pink ones drop points and the grey ones have a chance to drop items or pokemon
You gain 1 cloud (either pink or grey) every 5 minute with a cap of 10 to begin with. So every 50minutes you have 10 random clouds to shoot at.
The points you collect can be used to visit areas with greater chance at pokemon encounter and such. Or, spent to upgrade stuff. Such as max cloud capacity, catch power and catch time.
You can also use 5 play coins to instantly fill up number of clouds to your max.
Then transfer the stuff to a save data on the 3ds. Start your game, pick "unova link" and get the stuff.
And yeah, that's about it.

Things I have gotten so far:
Munna
Drifloon
Sigilyph
Riulo
Swablu
Yellow shard
Red shard
Blue shard
Green shard
leppa berry
Revive
sun stone
moon stone

PS.
Anyone knows what happens if you link the save file of a B/W2 and a B/W?

I can't see it becoming that entertaining.  But then again, I still haven't played except the Radar.  I got my hands on the Dragon Ball manga and was like whhaaaaat nostalgia trip.  But that's over so I think I'll try to catch up to you guys.
Title: Re: Black and White 2
Post by: Archem on October 14, 2012, 02:13:02 AM
It might only be addicting because it's a change of pace. Basically, you do battles with certain conditions and pre-determined Pokémon. Things like "only knock out X" or "survive X turns" and things like that, and when you're done, you can watch it as a movie with all the cool stuff mixed in. It's almost like puzzle battles due to the conditions and Pokémon moves/abilities/items.

That does sound like it would present a mildly entertaining distraction from the main game.  At least more than the other contests presented thus far.  After Ruby and Sapphire my goals in the game have been to finish as soon as possible to begin hours upon hours of team building so I never really explored the other parts of the game.

And I just "completed" the dream radar. Lvl 5 tornad-, thund- and landorous in the box.

Recently found igglybuff, staryu, pp up, max revive and water stones as well. Only gen 1/2 stone I haven't found yet is thunder (which isn't surprising considering how few actually uses that one)

Even better. After getting all those three you can insert your Gen 4 games and capture the mascot of said game.
I just expanded my pokedex with dialga, giratina and ho-oh. All at lvl 5.

On another note, I feel that friend codes should start flying around about now.

B2 Version "Eris"  3225 3400 9460
White Version "Rainer" 3181 5445 5267

Furthermore, we all oughtta swap codes and arrange some kind of giant trade or battle meet-up in the Club sometime.
