Title: Games That Need A Sequel or Something!
Post by: daoman89 on January 29, 2013, 02:30:18 AM
Let's see...

We need a Golden Sun 4, A new Chrono, Xenoblade 2 (which may be already happening), Star Fox, a new Chrono, aaaaaaaaaaannnnnnnnddddddd a new Chrono.

The latest GS was kinda bad imo, I think they should let the series die and bring on something new.

Chrono really can't be continued well.

Last Story 2, Persona 5... bout the only ones I can think of atm. Looking forward to tales of xillia.

They can't kill off Golden Sun with a cliffhanger...  People would rage lol.  Plus I LOVED them.  You have a kinda unique battle system, but on top of that... You have places with a plethora of puzzles and lots of exploration.  Plus what they did with weapon abilities was cool too.  However, the 3rd one was way too easy...  Stop making stuff easy for the newer generations!!!  I'll admit though, the story wasn't the best, but I still enjoyed it.  The 3rd one had its boo boos, but maybe they'll listen to fan criticism and fix it.

I agree with The Last Story 2.  The ending hurt me a little bit, I'll admit.  You could definitely continue the story though.

I've never played Persona.  I still haven't beaten Tales of the Abyss cause Xenoblade's cutscenes makes it look so lazily done lol.  As for Chrono...  They need to figure out something.  The battle systems and whatnot were fantastic and the music!

Psychonauts. I will sacrifice a newborn baby to the Sun gods for a new Psychonauts. Or a new Jet Set Radio. LA Noire was pretty rad, too. Not child-sacrifice good, but sequel-worthy good.

If they made another LA Noire it would have to be like grand theft auto more or less (Change of characters and city I mean). Then they would have to change the name :P

I can agree with Psychonauts. Never played it, but I have only heard good things about it. Main character seemed pretty amusing from what clips I've seen.

Man... it is really hard to think of games that I want to see more of. I know people have been waiting on a Valkyrie Profile 3 for eons... To be honest, lately I'm more impressed with newcomer game series than next installments. Catherine, Dragon's Dogma, Dishonored... all stuff I was really happy with. SC5, Uncharted 3, CoD... all stuff I was pretty disappointed with.

Sequels have a trend of being worse than the originals. This is true in a lot of cases, especially when they try to just to build on where the last game ended.
Prime examples of bad: FFX2, FFXIII2

I prefer the traditional final fantasy style of keeping all the essential stuff but starting fresh. A lot better than claiming to be a sequal but inventing new stuff that messes with everything you learned in the last game.

Also, last couple of star foxes were a bit "meh", adventure, assault and commando

I can dig it. Seattle Noire. Miami Noire. Rhode Island Noire (hey, it's small enough to work). Make the franchise focus on the "Noire" name and they're golden.

I'd love it if a SWAT 5 ever surfaced. There just aren't any good tactical shooters anymore. Rainbow 6 has gone full-action, Ghost Recon has been pure action for a while, and ARMA is large-scale encounters only. I suppose the Kickstarter-funded Takedown is in development as we speak (cannot wait), but nothing else is on the market. Fans of a more realistic shooter like myself just don't have a place to call home...

I suppose that Ubisoft is quietly working ona  Beyond Good & Evil 2, but who knows if that'' ever turn up?

It should be obvious by now that I'm focusing largely on the forgotten games that really should have had more time in the limelight. I don't care so much for promoting a game that's already had a good time thriving and developing some sequels (barring SWAT since the series is old, great, and filling an empty niche). I can't wait for Tales of Xillia, though. Love me some Tales games.

Dragon's Dogma is getting Dark Arisen, so that'll hold me over for a little while.
Persona 5 is somewhat semi-confirmed, cool beans.
-If they continue the Persona 4 Arena storyline, I would like a separate title all together.  I will cry if that's all Persona 5 turns out to be (although evidence already indicated this wont happen.)  I'll still buy it and play the crap out of it, but I'll cry.
Shin Megami Tensei is already getting IV on the 3DS
Witcher 3 would be awesome.  I know they're working on Cyberpunk, which I'm interested in, but I need me some Witcher.
Final Fantasy Type-0 and Valkyria Chronicles need a freaking English release.

But above all, what I want to see is some attention thrown towards Skies of Arcadia.  There is that HD make-over rumor floating along that hasn't seen much update, but I'm not sure that would be enough.  The game WAS fun, strong emphasis on was, but now if it wasn't for the nostalgia I doubt I could play that game.

On the subject of existing sequels that need to be remade: How about a Klonoa 2 remake to compliment the 2009 Wii remake of the first game?

Another sequel to Chrono Trigger definitely needs to come out... But not a direct sequel like FFX-2, they had the right idea idea with Chrono Cross, but they just failed to deliver a solid game. They need to come up with with another sequel that uses the same basic elements and a few ties to the original game, but a whole new re imagined plot. The only other game that I know of that used some of the awesome principals as Chrono Trigger was FFXIII-2, but that game had some major flaws... :(

Another sequel to Star Fox would be nice too, if they made one like the SNES and N64 games where they stick to Fox flying the Arwing (or similar vehicle) as opposed to him running around killing things with a stick. Along the same lines a FreeSpace 3 would be amazing, it seems like there aren't any good space flight sims that were made in the past 10 years. Eve Online had the right idea, but the fact that you can't manually control your ship and get into dog fights was a huge disappointment for me.

I'm with you on Cross. Gameplay issues aside (my main gripes there are too many characters and too irritating to set up spells constantly), the general IDEA of the storyline of Cross was solid. You broke something major with Trigger - gotta set it right. The game started out slow with the references, but really sped up hardcore in midgame when we got all the hints of the Porre/Guardia war and the Dead Sea and Chronopolis and all that.

Unfortunately, Cross's storyline directions were, frankly, depressing. Having the entire cast of the original game be killed in embarrassing ways was a moronic move. I know they had to cut the while Magus = Guile thing for time reasons, but they should have cut WHATEVER THEY HAD TO to get that in. And the revelation that the whole entire game was about saving Schala was marred by the fact that Schala looked NOTHING like Schala and then mumbled some nonsense about planets being life forms before the credits rolled and she started wandering around modern day Japan.

I dunno man. I just don't know. I guess...s....s..... ... I respect what they tried to do with that game, but I wish they had been a hell of a lot safer.

Reminds me of Xenogears in a way. Not the whole sequel thing but the way the game played out in the end. They started to run out of budget or time or something.
It felt like the 2nd disc made no sense whatsoever, lots of things were cut and during the end they just threw you between vaguely linked cut scenes and battles. Like "oh right, eh... just so you know. this town merged with this robot and then with this airship that turned out to be a sword and you have to fight this huge robot thing."
