Anyone think that Ps4 is worth getting yet?
I'm not overly impressed so far, just seems like another console with high-graphics and stuff.
Also, how come blizzard wants to release Diablo 3 for ps3 and 4? Just feels... wrong.
-
I was curious that this topic never made rounds around the forum. I suppose that in itself is a testament to the opinions of the masses.
I am impressed by the potential, but I've said the same thing about almost all of the systems as of late. The Nintendo 3DS was weak to start, but it is ever at my side these days, whereas the Vita sits collecting dust once more after conquering Persona 4. All in all I do believe this is another case of buying the system halfway through it's lifespan. While there is great potential, there is nobody taking advantage of what's there.
Now let's explore what actually happened with the presentation. No price point was given, but I think we can all safely assume that $250 would be ideal, $299 is what people hope to have at least, $350 is what will probably be available for a standard issue one, and somewhere around $450 is where the actually useful bundle will be (i.e. console + controllers + game - see Wii U Bundle.) As for the presenters, the only things that caught my interest were Watch Dogs, as it did with E3 last year, and Deep Down, rumored Dragon's Dogma 2. Watch Dogs will more than likely be out I'm calling halfway through 2014, whereas Deep Down will more than likely be a 2015 launch, if it launches at all as is. Perhaps it was a mere engine demonstration, who knows.
So there we have a powerful system available that Sony will inevitably botch at launch and than miraculously salvage it 2 or 3 years down it's life to become acceptable. I love my PS3, but I only got it December of 2011, and I expect much the same delay for the PS4. You know, unless they announce something along the lines of Shin Megami Tensei anything, Shadow of the Colossus 2 (or even the Last Guardian at this point), Kingdom Hearts 3, or a Naughty Dog reboot of Crash Bandicoot. That's a tall order of empty promises and broken dreams though.

Looks like ****. Slightly better graphics, whoo. Change from ps2 to ps3 was far more noticeable.
-
Graphics can only get SO much better. Graphics have never been that important to me so yeah haha.
-
More graphics =/= gaems.
-

This.
I'll be impressed when they can make console gaming affordable.
-
Well it could be worth getting if they are arsed to make it backwards compatible which the PS3 wasn't in Europe.
Just feels kinda odd that Square shows their Lightning returns project for the ps3, release some new pictures of the FFX remaster and are still silently working on FFXIII VS while Sony is busting out a new console.
-
Nah.
-
I've said this plenty of times before. THEY DON'T NEED TO REMAKE FINAL FANTASY X!!!!! MY GOD IF YOU'RE GONNA REMAKE ONE, MAKE IT... IDK.... SEVEN!?!?!?!?
I am a big fan of the Gamepad Nintendo has for the Wii U. When I play zombie you, it makes this easy to organize and it's fun to use. Plus aiming with it when using a sniper or something feels really well too. But yea, give the ps4 a few years to put on some good games.
-
Personally, only remakes I would buy would be X or IX.
OR IF THEY REMADE FF1 AGAIN OMG THAT WOULD BE SO AWESOME.
-
ESPECIALLY IF THEY BUNDLED IT WITH FF2 GUYS.
-
BUT THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN, ESPECIALLY NOT TWICE!
-
BWAAAAA
I don't care about the PS4 right now. I can only think of one console at once and I still haven't got my 3DS yet. But in all likelihood I won't get one when it comes out. I do have a job now though, so I guess if Fianl fantasy is exclusive when the time comes or somethign ridiculous...?
-
So far, it looks like I'll wait for a price drop. Pretty visuals, but how much of a difference will the extra power make on gameplay? The difference between the console generations has always been more than just graphics, after all. If this jump can't make a difference other than looking about as good as a high-end PC title, I'm not sure how much it will be worth. I only recently got a PS3, so I'm not too excited to make a jump to the next one yet, especially since they're abandoning backwards compatibility again.
-
The current generation's obsession with social networking is irking me, as well.
I mean, seriously, a dedicated "share" button on the controller?
Just...no. Not necessary. Focus on games, if I want a machine that can do all I'll buy a ****ing computer.
-
All consoles should have a screenshot button. But anything socially related is usually crap. Can't type messages on a controller for **** anyway.
-
The Steam Big Picture text wheel is a pretty good method for text input. If that becomes a standard, I might argue that controllers can be useful for text chatting.
-
The Wii-U implements screen shots with Miiverse so people can share with other Nintendo members or if they need help or advice. It actually works very well. Plus the keyboard on the Gamepad is easy to use as well. There's also an option to draw stuff and there's a lot of people out there who are really good artists lol
-
They need a button that makes a toilet pop up next to you so you can continue gaming during those important moments.
-
There's also an option to draw stuff and there's a lot of people out there who are really good artists lol
I'm sorry but from experience this feature tends to evolve from "art" into "penises" after a short while. You go to a place and check the billboard, only penises drawn there. Or penises with smileys. Or Boobs, but mostly penises.
-
Nobody draws that stuff and if they do, it gets deleted rather quickly. And Meiscool, some games you can take the gamepad and play on the pooper.
-
Here's an amusing video about the ps4.

They suggest Goku loses to Superman. Their opinions are completely irrelevant from that basis alone.
I do however share about 9 of their 12 reasons for disliking the PS4 presentation. Namely their insistence on making the thing some sort of social experience. It's a game console. Give me some games to play.
-
Basically.
-
lol don't tell me you think Goku stood a chance against Superman. A man with limits against a man with no limits. But we're not gonna get into to that because that will become a huge debate that will blow up the forum. Some of that stuff is for just silly humor though.
-
And fyi I hate superman. He's so stupid and overpowered.
-
There is no need for a debate, because the simple fact is that this match up cannot be calculated. Superman is the essence of being the invincible and the ultimate, whereas Goku always surpasses the invincible and the ultimate. Superman is only as strong as he needs to be whereas Goku surpasses his own strength as he needs to. The only thing Superman beats Goku with is that "Superman" is apparently a valid word in the English language that does not get a squiggly red line underneath when I type it. But Batman gets that to apparently.
May as well discuss it anyway. The PS4 conversation appears to have died anyway, and this thread is now unoccupied. Not that it originally had much momentum anyway.
-
Well duh batman will beat them both cuz hes the goddamn batman. The writer of superman just decided to make him do whatever the hell he wants with barely any weaknesses and such a stupid boring character. Yeah, I said it! I hate superman! I dare you to comment on that death battle page and see if it sparks up a debate, but then again, it's probably still going on...
-
Superman has a law degree.
-
Dammit Meiscool. Superman is a stupid idea. Had a shot and took it...
-
Well, superman is so educated that he could probably find something that goku has done illegally and have him arrested for it.
Just saiyan.
-
Just saiyan.
Loving the pun.
So yeah, there aren't really a lot of information about the PS4 yet. And I am less interested in the console than the games that will be released for it after all. Sure, consoles can have a bunch of neat features but that doesn't make it the reason of my purchase.
-
Well, it became less shitty in my eyes since I have seen the FF cg thingie they have for it.
-
I haven't seen that. Is it a new FF or a remake?
-
Looks new.
-
feel free to link if you want. I'll watch it haha

E3 2012 - Final Fantasy 15 XV Trailer PS4 1080p Realtime graphics FF15 Agni's Philosophy TECH DEMO (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zks5W-XlghU#ws)
-
Interesting, not sure about the talibans though.
-
I hate tech demos. Nothing ever ends up looking as good as a tech demo in a realistic environment.
-
This tech demo would have been far more impressive had it not been leaked at last years E3 (if I recall correctly.) While the fact it is 6 months old does not reduce it's quality, the fact that I've already seen it, yet have seen no word on Versus XIII, Type-0 localization, or anything from Square that would signal something even remotely new or interesting, actually upset me. Maybe they'll finally have enough horsepower to tackle the FFVII remake that so many people cream their pants for. Not likely, but who knows.
-
Tech demos are worthless compared to game demos.
You're watching a cutscene, nothing that actually matters in a game environment.
I mean, remember the VII totally not pre-rendered demo from the PS3 unveiling?
Yeah, that was totally a showcase of the PS3s power, no?
-
I don't like fantasy games where the people look extremely realistic. I like them with more of an artform. FF13 had realistic cutscenes, but you could tell the characters weren't real people if that makes sense.
-

I think FFX is a way better example.
The game very clearly had an art direction (even if it led to hair antlers) and a unique (if not very sensible) setting.
These newer games are all rehashes of some stupid dystopian sci-fi setting.
I don't like Final Fantasy.
-
It's all right, I don't like Call of Duty so yeah lol. Kids shouldn't be playing those games. Whether or not playing them has anything to do with this, but kids these days are little bastards it seems unfortunately. Whatever happened to respecting adults?
-

They said that they wouldn't remake FF7 until a new game got better ratings. They are apparently working on the other two games mentioned, but the KH crew is awfully good at not leaking information about VS.
-
I havent liked final fantasy since IX sooo.... yeah, not too excited for XV. lol
-
I just feel like there hasn't been a high quality rpg from sony in ages.
I must say though, I'm VERY happy with my wii rpgs. All 4 of them.
-
I've enjoyed Xenoblade, The Last Story and Tales of Symphonia 2. Haven't played Pandora's Tower and can't think of any others at the moment. Which 4 were you talking about Meiscool?
-
Arc Rise, Last Story, Pandora's Tower, Xenoblade.
ToS2 kinda blowed dick IMO, with the english voice actors and the monster capturing/breeding and the bs plot elements.
-
I didn't mind the voice acting. They could've done more with The Last Story though, but it was still good. I play Dragon Quest IX on occasion, but it's just so boring a lot to me. I love the golden series because it kinda feeds that Zelda part in me with its Psynergy puzzles and i like experimenting with classes and the weapon skills etc. Nv heard of the Arc Rise game though.
-
Arc Rise is the best turn based rpg I've played in years. Worth looking into.
-

This I will do.
Yes, ToS2 just didn't live up to expectations, and it kinda sucks to have one male and one female and then 2 monster OR one of the characters from the previous game. Just a bit lame, got reminded of it while playing FFXIII2 as well. A guy, a girl and a monster. Sounds like a porno... Anyway!
Xenoblade was complete joy. First time in ages that I spend so much time playing and enjoying (not counting pokemon, you always spend like 200+ hours on those).
Last story, great game, great system, interesting world. But cut a little too short. And I kinda wanted to be a mage.
-
Don't forget to pick up Fire Emblem Awakening! But I'll also look into Arc Rise! I like how this went from PS4 to Nintendo games...
-
Well I looked into it. Horrible voice acting, hope those guy weren't paid much. It looked interesting, but idk how i feel about lots of grinding. Hmm...
-
I don't recall ever grinding myself, but then again, I really enjoyed the battle system so I might've done it subconsciously.
Really though, plot and characters are its stronger points.... except for the forgettable midget girl who had attacks that created statues of herself, totally forget her name.
-
Don't forget to pick up Fire Emblem Awakening!
Have to wait for the middle of april for that.
Besides, voice actors usually does a great job. I just feel sorry for them because they have to say such cheesy lines sometimes. Who can forget the classic "You almost became a Jill-sandwich!" ?
-
Not in this game they don't lol
I don't think it's worth $40 though.
-

To be fair, those voice actors were pretty shitty even without the cheesy dialogue.
-
Moar fake screams about scurry zombies please.
-
Speaking of voice acting and to really take the playstation topic off course, what do you guys think about voice acting in a zelda game? Link should never talk, but what about others? I don't think zelda needs it at all, Skyward Sword was very well written and allowed you to imagine what the characters sounded like. But that's just me.
-
I think OoT had the right track. Just a small "huh" or "yeah?" or "hyiah" or "aihfgokhhshfg" when talking to a person was enough. Kinda gave you a tone and personality.
-
what about others characters besides Link?
-
I think that there's a certain charm involved with Zelda's text-only format. The little voice cues are great, too, since they help share a character's voice without sacrificing the "silence is golden" rule. Actual voice work seems like it would detract a bit. I mean, nothing creeps me out more than Beedle's...

*shudders*
-
HAHAHAHAHA!! Imagine him getting pissed off with voice acting in Skyward Sword. It'd be so creepy! "You didn't buy anything!? HRAAAAAH!"
-
That's another part of the formula. The writing can be so over the top sometimes, and by adding a voice, it could end up being pretty corny and/or annoying.
-
Good thing about text is that you can interpret it as you please. Just like you do with a book.
Of course, I thought Rayne was a complete madman who were going to kill Lloyd in his sleep after the scene in the temple at the start. First she spanks them both and then she goes of into the ruins with a "MUUHAHAHAHAHA!!" kind of message.
Arc Rise is the best turn based rpg I've played in years. Worth looking into.
So this game never even made it to Europe apparently, typical...
-
U talking aboot tales symphonia? and yea stop being lazy and read the damn words! No wonder kids suck at english in america
-
I prefer games sans voices myself. Most times, even the best voice acting doesn't add much for me, but bad voice acting can seriously mess up a game.
Bad placement can, too - the aforementioned Fire Emblem Awakening decided it'd be a good idea to punctuate dialogue sequences with little mostly-unrelated voice clips. So you'll be watching a support in text and then suddenly one of the characters goes "HMMM" or "RIGHT" or "HIYAAAAAA" even if that's nothing like what the text is saying. Super annoying. I turned the voices off for that reason.
And games with bad voices that don't let you turn them off or don't have subtitles as well? The absolute worst.
-
I prefer voices in more action-filled games like metal gear, resident evil or devil may cry or whatever. The kind of game where you are expected to be one the move all the time, staying for reading a message that appeared from your partner will kinda kill the mood.
But I did not like what they did in FFXIII2 for example where you simply walk close enough to people and they spew out some voiced typical NPC monologue, this was also done in Mass effect. I find it impossible to comprehend most of the time because of distance and ambient noise. And it forces me to stop and wait until it is all finished if I want to get it all, walk to far and it is cut off. And if I missed something I can't really hear it again unless I run far away and then come back again in hopes for the same line to play.
But adding voices to a series that haven't had any voices before gets kinda wierd. Nintendo is doing it all fine and dandy with certain sounds used from time to time, like Mario's "mamma mia" or Beedles "Hiiiyyyya!". Also in mario party where pretty much all characters got a "Oh no" line and "I gotta star!". I did prefer Samus without a voice though. Which kinda adds to my point.
-
They do the walk up people talk with The Last Story too. I don't mind the voices in Fire Emblem. I like Lon 'qu's voice because it's the actor that played Roy Mustang in Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood and the nonmanga. i don't mind the battle voices either.
There was a debate on zelda voice acting on miiverse and the dude that was complaining (Played 1 zelda game all his life which was TP) was saying how nintendo needs to stop being stupid and grow up by bringing voice acting to zelda like all of other games this modern day and age. So I said nah, zelda can do without and he called us lil kids for not wanting them, yeah i know, he made perfect sense. So i told him to not hate on us true fans who dont want voice acting which he clearly did and he denied ever saying it even though it was RIGHT there. He was one of those people that expect too much and wants everything his way and doesn't appreciate anything. I looked at his profile and he was yelling at nintendo tellin them to do things and do use this technology blah blah. ps: his mii is ugly
-
Personally, I think they need to backtrack with some game series and make more 2d games (and not the 2d but with 3d graphics crap).
-
I don't understand why people want A Link to the Past in 3D. I can understand upgraded graphics, but 3D? No, you'll ruin the game because it's made for 2D. Focus on new 3D. Just my opinion.
-
It just feels like all my favorite series have died. Super Mario 2d platformers are too gimmicky now, castlevania is focusing on this new plot that few seem to care for (even the next 2d one is based on it), and metroid... wait, what metroid.
-
i loved the metroid prime trilogy. Metroid other m wasn't bad, but it was really short.
-
Other M was dreadful and pretty much killed the series where it was standing.
The only good thing about it was the gameplay, linearity ignored, and the graphics. The music wasn't terrible, either.
-
3D Mario will come soon. The 2D one can hold people over plus their adding luigi to it for free. U can watch about it on the Feb 14th nintendo direct.
I'd give metroid other m like a 7.5-8 tho.
The two DS zeldas weren't horrible. I mean Phantom Hourglass was my least favorite, but it was still enjoyable. I just didn't like the touch controls that much. As for Spirit Tracks, i really enjoyed that one. Sure the train restricted exploration, but it was still a good game. The dungeons were fun as well.
But my favorite 2D zelda is still Oracle of Seasons and Ages because those were just brilliant. Then A Link to the Past, Minish Cap & Link's Awakening.
-
I'm just curious.
How many 'round here got a Wii U, 3DS or PSP vita? None of them sold that well over here in Sweden according to latest reports.
-
I have a wii U and 3ds. wii u doesn't have many games yet so people are hating and stuff. It's been a few months and people are already down its throat.
-
I have none. Bought the 3ds for my gf last Xmas though.
-
3ds here
-
Right, maybe I should point out that I have a 3DS as well.
