Totally didn't steal the bot's post.
I think that bot said, Chrono Tales, not sure if that even is a game.
-
Well ok then. I'm a pretty big fan of Half-Life, but Viewtiful Joe also has my heart.
-

After much deliberation during a very deep conversation with a few friends, I do believe this is what I narrowed it down to. These are the titles that scratched me right where I itched, the ones that have stuck with me for the longest time, and the ones that I can play endlessly.
Top 5
1. Shadow of the Colossus
2. Crash Bandicoot 2: Cortex Strikes Back
3. The Witcher 2
4. Shin Megami Tensei Persona 3
5. Legend of Zelda Oracle of Ages/Seasons
---Honorable Mentions---
Fire Emblem: Awakening
Golden Sun: The Lost Age
Ni no Kuni Wrath of the White Witch
Valkyria Chronicles
Super Mario 3
Catherine
Mass Effect 3
Duck Hunt
Shin Megami Tensei Persona 4 Golden
Many of these honorable mentions are too recent to put in to a top position due to still having a bit of a bias lens on *cough* Fire Emblem.
-
I'd say my top five are (in no particular order)
Mech commander gold
Final Fantasy 8
Fire Emblem (The Eliwood and such one)
Final Fantasy 7
...and something kooky. Let's say a three way tie between Slash 'Em, Minecraft and pokemon heart gold.
-

Double post, but I think we should have a structure for this. Like....
Favorite Puzzle, Favorite FPS, Favorite Platformer, etc.
Then less genre specific ones like Favorite Plot, Favorite Gameplay, Favorite visuals, etc.
-
Good idea.

3PS: Uncharted 2
2D Platformer: Super Mario Bros. 3

WRPG: Diablo (no, not Diablo II)
JRPG: Mario & Luigi: Super Star Saga (close enough)
ARPG: The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past

RTS: Company of Heroes (to be fair, it's the only RTS I even like)

Yeah that might be a good idea, lets go with that. Categories. Should I be all douchy and add some to the first post or just let people do what they want to?
-

FPS: Metroid Prime
*eyetwitch*
My absolute favourite game ever is this little PS2 game called Dark Cloud 2.
You guys have heard me rant about it before.
It's the game that made me want to be a game developer, though.
-
I consider metroid prime more so a fps/adventure, but I guess that doesn't matter haha. I don't usually play fps's anyways.
-
I wish I could throw Metroid Prime in somewhere, but it's just not the best of whatever category I try to stick it in. And yet, it's so damn good.

=D That's my favorite Steam Punk game and close rival for favorite Action Battle System!FPS: Metroid Prime
Action: FF Crystal Chronicles
Fighting: Soul calibur 3 (customization and the tales of sword)
Sim: Can only think of the sims series, oh how cruel I was
Stealth: Metal gear solid 1(remake)
Multiplayer game: Super Smash Bros Brawl
Mini game: Gummi ship in KH2
Dude no wonder we get along so well. O.o We like alot of the same games. Also you reminded me of the Gummi Ship System from KH2. X3 I forgot that was a minigame. Guess because I always though of it liek the ships in the FF
series: A transport with a little battle system built in and allot more customization and youy reminded me of the only Metal Gear I ever played. XD Of course that was back before the remake and during my days when I didn't know
exactly what I liked outside of 3D platformers and turn based RPGs.Yeah, it was amazing. If you made sure not to get the random rule.
XD Augh Random and the one where you had to do Algebra just to figure out what card to play next. @_@ Reverse or something. Gosh it's been too long. < <; *Debates buying FF8 for a third and final time*
-
I loved FF8, it was just too easy once you knew what you were doing.
-
Let's just give metroid prime a new genre. First Person Adventure. There.
-
Would that cut in on games like Deus Ex (which I'm still not sure how to categorize. RPG, FPS, adventure, what?), or would it be more exclusive to titles like The Darkness (recently played, loved to death, wish it wasn't console exclusive)?
Maybe we should just have a hybrid category and limit ourselves to two or three games.
I'll add all three titles related to this question if we agree to a hybrid category.
-
Who would've thought making a list would become so complicated... Go us!
-
*eyetwitch*
Still, Metroid Prime was the first game using first person where you could only shoot that I actually enjoyed. Simply because it wasn't the traditional going through levels with cannonfodder that can't aim for shits.
Also, a HD(yeah right) version of Age of empires 2 will be released on steam pretty soon. Gonna be swell.
-
High definition (or "HD") in this day and age just means it supports higher video resolutions than 800x600 (or 1024x768 for those revolutionary mavericks who would dare to dream big), and widescreen formats are recognized as a thing.

That makes sense. Some old games gotta be played in Window mode or everyone looks chubby. So the HD remake is actually more of a "it can be played on new screens"
And yeah I thought it was wierd to call age of empires a HD remake as in super ulti cool graphics a the game was made purely with sprites. No 3d models or effects and stuff like that.
-
It's incredible how much I have in common with you guys. I think you've virtually listed my childhood.
-
how come nobody said call of duty as a fav? lol
i just noticed how u spelled 'favorite'. interesting how u guys spell differently over there!
-
Right, it's the British spelling. I tend to keep to it just because them isles are close by than them states and everything. Same with Armour, honour, colour, grey and stuff like that. Also, I pronounce the H in herb. Madness!
PS: never liked call of duty, just another pvp fps.
-
I slightly have a philly accent. Like to blend words syllables together such as "gonna" "whataya" or whatchu lol we're lazy.
But back on topic, nv like call of duty since people started over rating the hell outta it.
-
I used to love the hell out of Call of Duty, but those days ended around the time everyone else caught on. Once the series started getting heavily console-ized, I lost interest. I also played for the campaigns, and ignored the multiplayer, so when it went from incredible moments of history as seen through the eyes of a soldier in the middle of the chaos to being a one-man army in a Michael Bay film, the magic was lost.
I still have some part of me that is loyal to the brand (I had been a fan for so long, it's hard to completely shut out an old friend), but I tend to find ways to either get the games for free or for a heavily-reduced price. I can't justify supporting the shameful mess that the series has turned into by paying full price, but I can't help myself for grabbing a game for $15.

That's the spirit!
