I bought the expansion to Civ 5, Brave New World, at 10% a discount a month ago in the pre-purchase.
I have to wait two more days than americans to play it because **** me, there is no real reason to release digital goods two days later at all.
Then, on the very day they release the game to me, they also put it on sale at 33% discount, meaning my sole incentive to pre-purchasing it is now a slap on the face.

Steam Summer Sale. My wallet is fucked.
-
I just wish I had money to spend...
I'm trying to collect trading cards and sell the foils for money to buy games. No one is buying though.
-
My bro just bought Civ 5 with a 75% discount, crazy.
So far I've only bought Bioshock 1 and 2 and some odd unit based RPG called the last remnant.
Been thinking about getting terraria or torchlight or something like that as well. Still haven't beaten the witcher that I got some weeks back
-
Get Terraria. Srsly. Also FTL is only $2.50 right now and that's one of the best games ever to pick up on the cheap.
-
If FTL is only $2.50, get it.
I bought it full price, and I think it's well worth the money I put into it.
It is one of my top favourite indie games, hands down.

GUYSE STOP TALKING ABOUT HOW GOOD STEAM SALES ARE IN MY TOPIC ABOUT COMPLAINING ABOUT STEAM
;_;

Done and done, had enough credit left on my Ecard to get them both.

I'm a cheap bastard and I'm also patient. I only buy games when they're less than $5 AND at least 75% off. So far I've spent about $20 total on 15 games. Rock bottom penny pinching up in this joint. :P

Grandy, I feel your pain because I've been there in the past, but... STEAM SUMMER SALE!
Honestly, the Steam summer sale is one of the big things that got me into paying for games rather than pirating them.. The other is actually getting a job where I can afford to buy games, but even in college I could afford to spend $3 here and there to buy games.
-
This kind of stuff always happen. Bought a game full price and it was on sale for 75% the next week or so.
It sucks, it's frustrating, but oh well. Although your case is worst considering you couldn't even play it until it went on sale anyway...
Life is cruel.
Haven't bought much yet since I pretty much own everything that I want that is on sale. Yet.

Okay so FTL is breaking my balls here. Who designed this? I keep getting into situations that gets my crew killed or my hull broken to little pieces. That or I start to run out of missiles...
First try went well, then I aided some civilians and one of my crew members died from the alien pox. Turn after that went against some ***hole rebel with drones that kept torching my ship on fire, didn't help when I had one crew member less and an oxygen thing to repair. Died
Second try was awful, I had barely started my journey when they broke my oxygen again and even though I repaired it and placed all my units in the med bay, their hp dropped and they all died.
Third try got me to the second sector, had my shields all up and ready to go, bought a neat laser. Then I get boarded by 3 guys who just shot my crew to death. I donno, but if I send my 3 to battle those 3, I kinda expect them to die, not that all of MY crewmembers get killed....
This game is almost too random, another try will commence later.
-
A coworker of mine talked to me about this game, and did mention the random event thing, which I see as kind of stupid since you have no control whatsoever on it.
I suppose some people will enjoy it, perhaps event saying it add "realism" since even in real life, some events on which you have no control do occur, but personally, I'm not too fond of it.
I still got it, though. I'll survive with $2.50 less, even if I end up disliking the game.
-
First off, with FTL, play on easy until you get the hang of it. It puts you up against ships with less brutal weapon loadouts. You're not a lesser person for playing on easy - even easy can be hard as hell, and normal is nigh impossible until you realllly get the hang of the game.
Other than that, it's a matter of knowing how the ship and the works.
Second try was awful, I had barely started my journey when they broke my oxygen again and even though I repaired it and placed all my units in the med bay, their hp dropped and they all died.
Sounds like there was no power to the medbay, possibly no power to the oxygen system. Even with 0 oxygen in the entire ship, units in the medbay when its powered won't die; they'll heal fast enough to stay alive.
Then I get boarded by 3 guys who just shot my crew to death.
Boarding is a real pain in the ***. Some races have racial bonsues, but one normal human is as good as the other, so if you have a human fight a human border, one will survive with only a sliver of health. Don't take this risk. The general rule is that it's NEVER worth it to risk a crewmembers life, EVER, even to kill borders or defend the ship. Let the borders shoot at your subsystems if you have to. Have your crew engage the enemy borders, but pull them out of the room for healing once they drop below 1/3 health or so, heal them, and repeat. You can outlast the borders with attrition. If you fight borders in a powered medbay, you'll always win, because the medbay is powerful enough to heal you faster than boarders can kill you.
Yes, you can get screwed by random events, but handling battles well will get you enough resources to stay ahead of the curve in most cases, and in a few instances good random luck early will let you just snowball through anything.
-
True that, finally tried easy and managed to get to sector 6.
I had to repair the oxy supply, went with all my units and fixed it, then I went into the medbay to repair it, but they died... Sucks.
And when it comes to boarding I recently realized that it's better to just open some windows and make them choke, only works with some blast doors though, or they will reach everything and bust it before they actually die. Hate boardings in nebulas though, no idea how many they are or where they are going.
But I made a bad turn and had to go into the whole rebel range to advance. That hurt and no rewards for it. Then the next area was just a nebula after nebula. No shops in sight, carrying 80 credits or so but all out of missiles and now no fuel left. Got loads of empty areas which is a pretty bad thing in a nebula...
I'm fighting this pirate ship, 3 shields and triple shot. I have 3 shields and triple shots. We both break each others barriers but they have the chance to recover before the next load of ammo comes. I even managed to get an augumentation that increases my shield recovery rate and an Engi to repair my stuff.
But I'm in a deadlock and will die, once I turn off the shields so that the battle can actually end.
But yes, I'm getting better at not wasting missiles for examples, and stuff like that. But it usually comes down to luck.
Hate those solar flares... I had 2x 3 shot beams and a pretty good crew then I got boarded by 4 people in one of those solar flare places. Never managed to push through.
-
You'll get the hang of things. You're already starting to say and do things that suggest you're getting a feel for it.
Even the best FTL game barely lasts an hour. It's designed to be picked up and put down quickly. A lot of times it is you that gets put down, hard. But trust me, man. I'll take some tries and a lotta luck, but it's a great feeling to finally beat that final boss. Unlocks a great new ship too.
-
FYI, RPGMVX on the flash sale for 20€
-
So far I blown my money on Civ V: Brave new world, System Shock 2 and Lone Survivor. Sucky part is that I barely have any time to play them.
-
I don't think I've seen a topic go quite so off topic.
I mean, it's pretty much the polar opposite of what it started out as.
-
Wasn't planning on spending money, then I saw the Blood Bowl: Chaos Edition.
-

Eh, Steam gave everyone who pre-purchased BNW a copy of Civ 4 to make up for it.
I'm good now.
-
Steam treats its customers well.
-
I just hate this whole trading card system. It's such a useless device to get more money rolling.
-
I don't hate it. It hasn't impacted me in any significant way, so hating it seems dumb. I do, however, feel it's unnecessary, and have no intention to participate in it.
-
Sell the cards then. They sell for chump change, but it's a few bucks off your next game.

Depends on the card. I've seen some Don't Starve cards being sold for up to $8
-
But do people buy them at that price?
There is a difference between selling something at a high price and having someone buy it!
I don't mind nor care about the cards. If I manage to get something good out of it, sweet. If not, of well.
-
I got 3 Handsome Jack cards if anyone wants
-
I'm not using the cards, because as soon as Valve decides they're no longer worth it they're just going to...not exist, anymore.
I don't want to spend work getting virtual things that won't last.

I doubt hats-above-gameplay Valve is going to delete useless cards anytime soon.
-
To be fair, their games are incredibly fine-tuned. I guess when you don't need to balance things, you get bored, and hats fill boredom down-time.
-
I personally only use card money to buy cards, and craft badges when I get enough cards. I don't spend a cent, I don't make a cent. It's a demented little game, but it passes the time.
-
Yeah, the cards aren't going to cost Valve any money, and all they'll do is profit from it.
Cards are going to be around forever.
No, scratch that. Fiveever.
-
Until people stop paying attention to them.
Which will happen...eventually, maybe.
Point is, I think it's ****ing stupid and refuse to participate in it.
-
I still think hostile and aggressive attitudes are stupid. No skin off of my back, so no reason to care.
-
Fair enough, I'll tone down the jerkitude.
Sorry for being a jerk.
TL;DR, I don't like Steam/Valve nearly as much as a lot of people out there, due to bizniz practices.
-
You free not to participate it if you wish, it is your choice just as I half-assed almost participate but don't even bother straining myself for it. So you know, no badges for me yet.
Also, got to the end of FTL, beat the boss the first time, but my ship was so beaten up that it got me during the second attack...
-
I hate the steam summer sale! I just bought 10 games in the last week that I'll probably never get around to playing. I look at a game, notice it's 90% off and only a few dollars, and think to myself "I can see myself playing this sometime" and then buy it. I feel like i need to start a support group called Steamaholics Anonymous.
-
I will be first in line to attend meetings.
-
Yeah I would even recommend you to kidnap Archem, he's like 500 games ahead of me.
-
I sold a bunch of cards I had doubles of an no friends who owned the games they belonged to and bought Bastion using the money. Bastion is pretty good so far.
