I smiled for about 20 minutes when I discovered this.
This is big in Japan.

Topic's topic: Do you like beer?
-
I don't get it. What's going on?
Also, I'm not much of a drinker. When I do, I end up with something vodka-related most of the time. It's not planned, it just happens. I think it's just because there's a lot of vodka around the house.
-
Beer is typically nasty, expensive, and small in Japan. This is however, big, cheap, and pretty tasty. I was overcome by joy to find it.
-
Oh right, you live in Japan. Now I get it.
I think the taste of beer depends on where you live and what you can get your hands on. Swedish beer tends to be pretty terrible and not worth drinking unless you want some cheap alcohol.
-
That right there is a man's beer :)
But is it actually any good?
-
We have Asahi here. I seem to remember it being pretty nice.
I drink beer a lot, though I drink in general less than I used to. You go out less as you get older...

It's not phenomenal by any stretch of the imagination, but it's a solid mid-tier beer. Taste better than anything you'd get in a thirty pack, but not as good as something you'd pay $4 USD and up for. A vast majority of the beers commonly sold in super markets and convenience stores around here are secretly malt liquor disguised as beer. They do not taste good, hence why finding actual beer, in a massive quantity, at a responsible price was such as a shocking and welcoming thing.

Isn't Absolut Vodka Sweedish? It's obviously not beer, but it isn't bad vodka either. I've drunken it a lot in the past.

I really quit drinking so often after I graduated college, however after a long days' work, it's nice to have a beer and relax.

Correct, it's both Swedish and not beer. They are making tons of money on it, apparently people like their fancy bottles over most Russian Vodkas.

I heard Japan has a fetish for Pabst Blue Ribbon. Is that true?
Also, I ****ing love beer. Working at a liquor store was the best/worst experience ever. I became an unashamed microbrew hipster over night.

I've never seen PBR over here, but maybe I'm just not looking in the right place. I'll keep an eye out for it.

Beer is great.
-
I drink extremely rarely. Like once every 10 years. Main reason; I despise the taste of alcohol. Unless the drink does not, or very, very, VERY barely tastes like alcohol, I won't drink it. So, obviously, I don't drink beer.
"It's a taste you acquire."
It's a taste I don't want to acquire.
Oh and also, being drunk isn't something that appeals to me.
I also dislike being around drunk people, as they tend to be utterly annoying. Yes, I know it depends on the people, but turns out I've only been around the annoying ones.
Now of course, I have nothing against people who drink, but if I'm invited to some place where the main motivator is beer, I'll pass.
-
Not a big beer drinker. If I had to pick one Budweiser. Anheuser-Busch/St. Louis raised.
Question. How is Sake? I never got to try it.

I've heard you talk about this a few times and you're always so defensive and militant about it :p You could say "I don't like drinking; I gave it a go a few times but never really understood it" but intead it's all "I don't want to aquire the taste! I'll pass! I don't need it to be cool, thank you very much!"
Don't worry about it. Lots of people don't drink. Having said that, you can be too closed to unfamiliar experiences.
EDIT: Oh aboutso; sake is quite sweet... It's hard to remember the taste because I got really sick of it (literally) after a few separate occasions where I rounded off a night drinking it. It was ok though, before that...
-
Nah, I'm not being defensive. I'm just a very bitter man.
Pretty much just explaining why I don't drink, albeit in a rather negative tone I must admit.
Where have you heard me talk about this, though?
-
Not a big drinker either. My brother's 18th birthday present was to take me out and get me throw-up-at-the-bus-stop-wasted with everything included such as tequila and shots and vodka and whatnot.
I guess my body still remembers that since any strong alcohol upsets now stomach these days even though it wasn't a problem that one night.
But I still drink, just not that stuff.
-

Hmmmmmm\..\..\..
I don't remember to be honest. Some thread where we were talking about drink, or parties or something. The conversation crops up about once a year or so.
-
Eh, I suppose that's possible. I don't remember this, but then again, we can't remember every conversation we ever had, indeed.
I suppose I could add a line of positivism and mention that I do like certain type of cocktails and cream liqueur, though. So long as the taste of alcohol isn't too strong. If I could find a beer that fits that category, I'd be willing to try it.
