My game's far from done but I'd like to know what you think of it. OK here's the story:
The main character Gary is always wandering around. A day The Empire (an evil kingdom that has started a huge war) attacks a village (Durran) while Gary is there. Gary get into a battle against the emperial general which is leading the attack, but the general is stronger than him and he has to flee. All the townspeople are killed and gary is knocked out and taken as prisoner. He wakes up later in an emperial dungeon. Gary finds out that the Empire are gonna attack the dessert town Cahn. He has to flee to warn 'em and safe his ***, and he gets out of the cell by provoking the guard and steal his armor. But on his way out he meets the samurai Kheno (I know it doesn't sound japanese but I had to name him something) and he joins Gary. They make their way to Cahn but then an unexpected prob occurs. Regular people aren't allowed to visit the sultan at less they know a certain password, but he talks to an ex-guard who're willing to tell the password if they finds some goods that has been stolen from him recently. they finds a secret entrance to the thief's den and finds the guard's stolen goods, but they encounters the thief. after taking him down they encounters a bunch of super-slimes. After killing 'em and talk to the guard again they get the password and enters the sultan's palace. After they've explained the situation to the sultan they have to go to the town of Atla which is Cahn's ally and get their aid. Before going princess Algin which is a whitemage and summoner joins 'em. They getting to Atla and recieves their help. When thay get back to Cahn they plan a strategy for the battle. The Cahn/atla army are gonna make a diversionary attack and meanwhile the party are gonna kill the emperial general so that the emperial army'll flee in panic. after doing so the general from the army of Atla (Baran) join the party. The sultan wants you to get to the Empire and find out what's going on since they've become so hostile lately. You goes to the royal engineer Cid in order to loan an airship to fly to the Empire, but unfortunately he's got no airships but he join the party. The you go through an abadonned mine and a train graveyard and fight a few bosses. You suddently discover a recently new built emperial base and you hear that the Empire are gonna launch an attack on Hon San. You hurry to Hon San to warn 'em. You get to Hon san and talkes to the ruler. He explains that the whole town is an airship so they fly away from the emperial forces. Then you continue your quest and take the train to the town Zhilon but there are emperial soldiers all over the train and you jump off the train. You continue through a lava cave where you get Ifrit the esper (summon) of fire. But when you finaly gets to Zhilon you encounter an emperial marshall which looks ecactly like gary except his hair and eye color. He knocks gary out but doesn't finish him off. The next morning you continue to the town of Arahn. There you hear 'bout an ancient ice god Shiva who have been terrorizing the town many times. The townspeople are willing to give you a good reward of you get rid of her. You go into the temple where Shiva is and find out that she's actually an esper. You challenges her and she lends you her powers and you get a reward from the citizens of the town...

you know, i almost never read those big story texts.
The graphical part seems to be ok, but u should make the game with non-rtp resources(that makes the game more interesting). ;)

Space it out using paragraphs.
Anaway, seems good! And even if you do use RTP, at least your using them correctly!

Acculy il have to agree with pedro here...
Playing with rtp resources makes the fun go down..its like playing a newbs game...
even if your game is the best game ever..after a while the players will stop playing your game...
ands it all cause of one rpt resource...lol

That is a pretty random statment... it sounds like you are trying to pass off your opinion as fact.
Something like this, maybe?
"Man, this is the best game ever! The plot is really deep, the battles are sweet, the maps are well drawn. I am having so much fun! But... it has RTP graphics. I guess I am going to stop playing now for no apparent reason."
I doubt it.

Eh, I might as well comment about the game.
It sounds like you enjoyed Final Fantasy 6 a lot. That is cool, I love FF6 too. But trying to remake FF6 by changing a few names and maps is not going to make anyone too happy.
Empire? Cid? Shiva the Esper? Mobile town? Come on now... you can think of your own cool ideas.

Basicly my game has nothing to do with FF6 at less some names. The storyline itself doesn't sound like the story of FF6. If there are any other relations, I haven't done it on purposs, 'cuz when you play a good game it's like it goes into your unconscious mind.

Oh I completly forgot to tell you that the major villain actually is your main character's (Gary) evil side! If he dies Gary's good side (The one you have in your team) will die too. So Gary'll have to sacrifice himself if he wanna safe the world. I like that idea and it's NOT taken from another rpg!

My old screens sucked and there were only one from a map so here's some new ones. Much of the game is still rtp but I actually like the rtp resources so I won't change 'em.

With the whole RTP issue. I myself agree with no rtp stuff, but thats 'cause I've seen them. Lots of people like to see new stuff. Plus a game is more original if everything in it is original (DUH!). If I was somebody who has never-ever-ever seen rm2k(3), I would think it's still great!
I try not to use RTP stuff 'cause it's been used by others alot, plus its a 'defualt'. Ugh, I hate defualt... This annoying guy who is a jerk is now part of our almighty student parliament in my school 'cause nobody else run (Thus he won by defualt) :yell: .......
Oh well, to each his/her own....

There won't be any demo out for a while 'cuz I'm making a complete graphics change to non-rtp stuff. But of course it'll be okay with me if you'll test it. And you doesn't seem to know that I actually know you personal 'cuz I'm not using my real name but you should be able to guess who I am.

Well it is good that your switching to non-rtp graphics. As you can allready see a lot of people don't like them. In my opinion, one of the major resons why peeps don't like the rtp stuff is because most people use rtp stuff in there first game. No offence but normally someones first game isn't that good. Now if I play a bunch of crappy games that use rtp graphics, pretty soon I don't think too highly of games that use rtp graphics.

Okay I know this is a uber topic kick but the demo'll soon be out! I've almost finished it and Neslein are making a site where you'll be able to download other rm2k3 games and demos from me, Sabin and Neslein as well.

No I don't 'cuz I began my project last year and back there I didn't know you could have facesets in messages and when I found out it was too late unless I'd be doing nothing else than setting facesets in messages for a week or so I just dropped it. It's just an unneccesary luxury anyway.

the game ni am currently making is my first, it has no rtp resources, and sum people really like it so... thats not always true.

this is my third game, but its only because the last two were either on rm2k or i scrapped the ideas, his game sounds alright.

Good news! I'm making a CMS with an FF5/3j job system. It's the same as FF5 apart from you'll have to have capacity to change job like in FF3j. It'll be hard to make but I've already made the some of it, I'll post some screenies from it once I get home (I'm currently at school :() And the demo'll come out really soon. The demo itself is 97% done the big issue is probs w/ the website.

You know, you shouldn't make any custom systems in your first game. The first game is usually a test where you test different functions and commands in RPG Maker.
So I suggest: Don't try too hard when it's your first game.

Actually this isn't my first game. I started an rm2k project 'bout a year ago but it seriously sucked. But I've been working with rm2k for a year and rm2k3 for a half year and I've been on this forum for 5 months so I know much 'bout it and more than enough to make a great game w/ great CMS.

It looks quite good, though I don't like the layout and the jobs are direct copies from Final Fantasy-games.

Actually, In My Game You Go THrough About Five Generations Of Main Heros, ALl Of Whom Either Die, Go Into Hiding, Or Become Evil.... Of Course, THe Game Takes Place Over Twenty Years, So...

I've already shown planty of screen from maps and battle on page 1 and 2 though many of 'em are outdated now that I've changed to non-rtp. Here're some new ones!

Yeah. I think one of the poor things in most rpg's is that every time a 'huge' battle's going on it's usally only 10-20 soldiers fighting so I wanted to make a big battle with many soldiers. At first I thought that there were a limit of 999 events per map but when I found out the limit was on 9999 I just keept making soldiers 'til there were 'bout 1500!

All those events would destroy most computers, and that is before you make them walk in place, or fight, or do whatever.

Nope they don't fight or anything they just walk w/o moving. But it didn't lack once though my comp just got rebooted and runs faster than ever b4. Wierd o.O. Anyway it only lacks when you walk but I've got a pretty new pentium 4 comp so older comps might crash there. But it's not that bad.

Actually it's just the defeault rm2k3 battle system I've just changed the layout to 'gauge'.

I have to agree with Saikar. He is right. You should make the number a bit lower.

Okay I've decreased the number of soldiers so there's only 'bout 1000 or so and it has completely stoped lacking. I haven't made the battlefield smaller I've just made a lil space between each soldiers. That looks better too anyway.

I've never heard of that game.
And why is it hard to make a job system? Think of 12 different jobs with 10-30 job levels each which has to be applied for each character. Though I've only made 'bout 5% of it it already takes a huge common event just for the first character's first two joblevels!

I've trashed the job system 'cuz it took ages to make and it didn't fit in with the story and the characters. So do anyone have an idea to an [GLOW]ORIGINAL[/GLOW] skill system?

No as said above I mean like how to learn new skills like magicites in FF6, materias in FF7, etc. rather something original but not too hard to make.

Well, I don't know if this idea I have is really orginal, I've never noticed a game who has it or maybe I have but I forgot, anyways...
Let's say there are Fire, Water, Wind and Earth crystals all around the world... When you go to an fire crystal you get Fire lvl 1 and go to another and you get lvl 2 and on and on.
Or you could make 3 other elements maybe Sand, Ice and Thunder. And when you go to a crystal you get an item instead getting the skill. If you use this item you get fire lvl 1 ( if it was a fire crystal. ).
And if you combine items with eachother you can get the other elements, Sand, Ice and Thunder.
Earth and Fire= Thunder.
And like that, what do you think? :bend:

Sorry but I don't like your suggestion. First of crystals are way overused secondly Nes's making a game where you combind runes so that idea is already taken.

Hmm... i am sorry to say Sephy, but i can't do it.
The best skill system i evolved is my own, and it took me about a little month, just to figure out in my mind how i want it!
... so coming with something completely original and not similar to anything else, is kinda hard!
If you want me to continue, i can, but i won't promise it can think of something. And even if i does, it can take ages to finnish in my mind.
BTW, Robotamīs idea is not that similar to my skill system. And, you can use something similar if you want. Take the FF games for example, there is job system in a few of them. Why not put my rune system in your game, since we are making a game serie?

But I have another idea! ;)
I saw earlier that you had your own job system, the skill system could have some conncetion with the jobs.
Like if you choose the job "Dragoon" you get element "fire".
The longer you have this job equipped the effectiver is the fire element and by that way you can learn Fire lvl 1 and Fire lvl 2 and that stuff. ^^
What do you think?

I've decided to make an FF9 like skill system where you learn skills from equipment. Fortunately it's not that hard to do. Oh and new design agaan.

1. You can see the skills and equip it when you select it. This make it a lot easier since I can just show the variable code in a message!
