Title: Memory Island
Post by: MrMister on August 20, 2004, 04:42:29 PM
The badly generated main character wakes up in a crevace(sp) under the earth not remembering anything recent and when he finally climbs the plants out of that bastard hole he finds a small shelter. On this cliff he finds some usefull stuff. A garden shovel thing and a big flower full of seeds. He is on an uncharted uninhabited island. As he explores the island, his memories start to come back and revive certain things around the small straw shelter. As you build your village, you can find items that bring back people. When the people live in your town, they can assist you in different ways. These people are not in history, but the character can somehow remember them.

Comments on the story? I know the whole amnesia thing is a huge huge cliche but I wrote this years ago.

Well, I'm entirely adept with RPG Maker, and it can't be any harder than making a monster raising game..
And it's not really complicated like a Dark Cloud georama thing, it's more like Digimon World type town building, or Soul Blazer.

What he said.

If you can pull it off, it'll be worth the hours of coding.

I might make a demo once I finish the first jungle level, since you need to find the stone in the level to bring back the altar from the blood on the ground so you can start bringing stuff back from your memory.

Is it like Harvest Moon with a plot?
Title:
Post by: MrMister on August 20, 2004, 09:26:20 PM
Hey, give dat **** some respect dog
You do have a farm part in the town once you restore the farmer, and you can plant seeds that you get.
The game isn't entirely forward like a Final Fantasy, you can basically choose where and what you want to go do, other than having to get the altar stone first, and the last boss.

~Super Happy Mask Shop~
Restored when you find the tribal mask
Headgear changes the character's appearance, I have a tribal mask and a Santa hat done so far.

~Blacksmith/Tailor~
Restored when you find some raggy old clothes and a hunting knife they revive the tailor and blacksmith.
Blacksmith can upgrade your pick-ax +1 if you have an iron material, and tailor can upgrade your black clothes +1.

Super Sexay Update

Jihocabua Tribe Card Shop now completed.(I was using a romantic/european name generator hoping for some cool Italian thing and ended up with some African thing)
The cards can teach you skills. Yeah. The one you find to restore the card shop is the popcorn card.

It gets restored at the little grass shack by the cliff. So, yeah.

Popcorn lets you cook meat faster, Wave makes you able to call a boat to you where ever you are as long as you are by water, and I haven't thought of many else.

I have a lot of respect for Harvest Moon. But no one could argue that it has a plot. Not having a plot is one of the highlights of the game, in fact. You do what you want, and what happens is mostly a result of your choices.

I obviously like the idea: I am working on a game with a similar concept.

Record Store/Walkman System

When you find the headphones, the record store gets opened.
You can buy background music which you can change anywhere when you open the jukebox menu.

Karaoke Mini Game

Using Xen's Piano tutorial, you can karaoke it up. When you find the microphone the record store expands and gets a karaoke machine.

Please donate musics for the walkman system. Keep in mind that it takes place on a tropical island and most of it should be upbeat. Still need some alternatives for everyone, like heavy and techno tracks.

Alright I know I may be an idiot, because I am told it often enough. But may I say that the maps you have posted look pretty bland. All It's proven to me is this, if you have a name on this site, even if it is one that the majority of the little people hate. Simply because you hype your own game so much and put down everyone elses. I'll have to see a demo, because so far I hate what I see. and usually im a pretty nice guy when it comes to rating games. And though you all say it doesn't sound cliche to you, I feel I've heard it before, too many times. _veryangry_

Whatever. I like my game, and don't like yours. That's how I can feel okay about putting down your game and 'hyping up' mine.
Thank you for your opinion, but I already know about the me sucking at maps.

Also, in the first post of this thread I said it was cliche.

Okay, the whole "my God, I wakened up in a hole and I cant remember who am I" is, and will forever be, a cliche, but that about making a sland and all... Is a little original, but not that much. But hey! All the Final Fantasys are just cliches and more cliches, and everyone loves them( I am everyone). When u finish it I will play, but only if u finish, I never play demos, I hate games with no final.

well, I don't personally like Mr.Mister, and the begining, as he said, cliche...

with that said, I think the game looks great. sure the maps are a little lacking, but how many towns still being built from the remains of nothing look full and vibrant to you. I like the open ended game play, very nice, and I like the concept of finding items that bring back people. It's like people don't exist unless they have a purpose.

so anyway, I'm holding out, and can't wait to play it.

Ey, it's MrMister making a game. If he wants it to be cliche, it can be cliche. You know what cliche is? A really good concept that a lot of people use. Cliche isn't bad. It's just overused, but it can be done quite nicely sometimes.

And dun mind goatulon. He just appeared out of nowhere and decided to rant in a few threads to look smart. He's an idiot.
