Post by: Neslein on August 30, 2004, 04:17:13 PM

See the poll for options.

I think you should make a mix of the all.. But you can always add some more comedy and lose some stuff from it so it doesn't have to be like an RPG..

Comedy doesn't always make it RPG.. You can make it funnier but you can always lose like the action and stick with the mystery and comedy... But I guess ppl like the action but that doesn't always make the game good.. if the main reason is the action then, but if it's something else...

I love humourous games. There are two things that keep me playing; a good storyline that makes me want to see what happens next, and humour. Since any RPG should have the storyline thing ("Ahhhhhh," they all sighed, as they finally realised why Inmi and Poit said that hfygs: The Craziness Begins wasn't as RPG), the next thing is humour.

Role Playing Game says storyline where?
Storyline is the least important thing in a game and FF9 proved that. Good game, 1 dimensional characters. Zidane had almost no story until that Bran place, and it was still weak there.

You gotta make it a mixture between all of the above. You need a little mystery to create a little suspence, and to keep people playing. If theres a mystery, people will have to play through the whole thing to figure out whats going on. You also need some action to keep the game exiting. Without some action, a lot of people will lose intrest and get bored with the game before the end of the game. And finally you need some comedy, I usually dont like games based on comedy, because I find most of them lame. However every game needs a few comic parts in them to make the game enjoyable.  :jumpin:

Have a mix of the game types! That way you can satisfy many people with your RPG! I am having a funny RPG that is also serious.

Okay i have an idea. How about we follow the example of The Gwaga Gmonk, and post what keeps you playing a game?

i keep playing an rpg for storyline, character are important too cuz if character are like '' the bad guy that wanna destroy the world for no apparent reason'' or ''the good guy that will destroy the evil because his father got killed'' it become boring and you need a bit of comedy to keep the game fun.

I agree with zillahunter.

In my game, Vengeance Quest, the hero, Blane, is out to find a guy who apparently destroyed his town for no reason.

Through development, things come together and make sense as to the villain's motives. (No, he is not a Kefka-type guy!)

Of course, I think an RPG has to have one scene where all hell breaks loose.

FFVII SPOILERS!!!

Like the scene where the Weapons wake up.

END SPOILERS!

EDIT: What is the story of your game?

A game keeps me playing if it's interesting! It should make me think that this is going somewhere and I want to find out how. Comedy makes even better but there shouldn't be too much... you know, like someone says something stupid and funny all the time. The comedy should be quite small so that people won't get bored of all the funny stuff there is.. And if there's too much it'll be harder to think some more funny stuff that is actually funny!

Characters should be interesting too.. it's totally boring if there is a character that just hangs aroung doing nothing that doesn't have anything to do with the game. Characters should be different from each other in someway.. If they're all like stupid and funny = BORING... I get sick of the same things that happen all the time...

I like some other stuff that are funny. Like minigames... They don't have to relate to the story at all and they should have some prices so that people actually would play the games.. But it's fun that you don't know what prices you can win. Some prices could effect the game but I'm not so into that cause I get sick of playing the same games...

I guess that's it..
