Title: Dragon Twilight
Post by: Xen on September 01, 2004, 12:39:02 PM
Started creating my own game on rm2k3. It's called Unguided Wisdom. Haven't thought of a storyline yet, though. I'm creating some of my own resources for it at the moment, but progress is slow. I've put 3 of  them into the resource download pages. Actually, I need suggestions on a better name for it. The name 'Unguided Wisdom' is a bit shoddy.

I'm open to suggestions so feel free to submit any...

Might be a good idea to plan out some sort of basis for the game beforehand actually, in my opinion..
otherwise you might end up hitting a dead end with the game or something.

Hard to progress when you don't even know where it's going.. yah know?..

You're right. But, I still have my database to complete and it's WAY far from being done. I have resources to make so I'll probably think of the story while I'm doing them. I have a bit of the story though.

It's about some unearthly force sealed away in the centre of the Earth created by the Gods. Due to a war thousands of years ago, the Gods were defeated and in their dying breath's, they sent their souls into the centre of the Earth so that they would be safe from evil there. The souls of the Gods cannot control their power which can only come to be used by Humans. All humans desire this power, some for good and some for bad, many try to reach it but fail. If someone good were to have this power, they could rid the world of the Evil that troubles it, but, if someone bad were to get their hands on it, it could lead to complete Armaggedon, the destruction of all life.

Well? What do you think?
Title:
Post by: Red Giant on September 03, 2004, 03:37:24 PM
Sorry, but that story is incredibly cliched.
Title:
Post by: Xen on September 03, 2004, 04:29:43 PM
Hmm? And what do you mean by that?

Cliched means typical, or overused.

For example, it's cliched to make a game that is about a force that everyone wants and can be used for good and evil.

Post by: Xen on September 03, 2004, 04:47:36 PM
Hmm...

Well, I still am working on it, but, I haven't really seen a game that follows what you said about the force that everyone wants. It doesn't seem typical to me....

How about some examples...
Title: It's changed
Post by: Xen on September 05, 2004, 11:36:19 AM
I've made a few changes to my RPG if anyone wants to hear them....
Title:

Sure.. come with em :)
Title:
Post by: Xen on September 05, 2004, 02:09:09 PM
Well first of all, it's the story and the name, hopefully this should not be cliched like my previous one....

Ok, here goes...

I've changed my RPG's name to 'Dragon Twilight', so it means that my RPG contains lots of stuff on the subject of Dragons(I'm facinated by them).

The story is about a young Dragonslayer called Shiuyen, who, after fighting a dark dragon and facing defeat, is discovered by some townsfolk and taken to their town, Graft.
While all this is happening, Shiuyen has a strange dream in which a mysterious presence tells him that the world is dying. The presence tells of 7 Dragon Elders, who have all the Wisdom of the Earth (you name it, they know it), but, they also have the power to sustain the world. These dragon elders are in danger at the moment, as the devil is sending armies of unearthly creatures to kill them so he can have the soon-to-be-dead planet for himself to rule.
Shiuyen asks why he's being told this but the presence fades into the darkness. It tells Shiuyen to go to the city of Unith and speak to Hydratha, one of the Dragon Lineage, to get information on the 7 Dragon Elder's whereabouts. Then, Shiuyen awakens.....

That's all I have at the moment. What do you think?

I have a screenshot! It's my RPG's title screen...

I'm still working on the system graphics for it, but I don't know if it will be changed. Enjoy...
Title:
Post by: Xen on September 05, 2004, 06:18:23 PM
I've come up with a small profile of my main character:

Name: Shiuyen
Age: 19
Title: Dragonslayer
Information: Shiuyen is a Dragonslayer, well known all over the world and admired by all fighters. He has took the lives of over hundreds of Dragons, explaining the fact of them being near extinct. He is said to hate the sight of any dragon, but, why would the job of protecting the 7 sacred Dragon Elders be entrusted to him?
Title:
Post by: drenrin2120 on September 06, 2004, 02:47:09 PM
The world is dying? Hm... FFVII already took that for itself, but if you're careful you can customize it to your own ideas so it don't look like an FFVII idea rip. You know what i mean?
Title:
Post by: Sephiroth rocks on September 06, 2004, 03:36:14 PM
That idea was actually used in FF9 as well.
Title:
Post by: drenrin2120 on September 06, 2004, 03:52:53 PM
oh, well i never finish 8 OR 9 so... my bad...
Title:
Post by: Xen on September 06, 2004, 06:37:46 PM
Well, to be honest, I wasn't thinking about the dying world part from final fantasy when I made my RPG's (second) story. You are right though Drenrin, I might be able to disguise the dying world rip with my own ideas. But, for some reason, all my RPG ideas end up having something major in it resembling a famous game or movie.....

I was also thinking of making a small demo of the story I explained earlier. Although, it might just be when Shiuyen fights the Dark Dragon and loses. It'll also take ages to make but I'm working on it....
Title:
Post by: Red Giant on September 06, 2004, 07:03:00 PM
I like the second story. If you focus around Shiuyen's emotions involving dragons and his conflict in feelings, I think this could become very involving.
Title:
Post by: Xen on September 06, 2004, 07:09:38 PM
Thanks. I was going to use Shiuyens hate towards dragons to a good effect in the story, but thanks for suggesting anyway.
Title:
Post by: Xen on September 07, 2004, 04:08:15 PM
I forgot to add something to Shiuyen's character profile.....
HIS APPEARANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dammit! He can also be found on the complete resources pages (page 2 if you can't find him) but if you haven't seen him there he's here.

I'm still editing him anyway.....
Title:
Post by: VahnGrave on September 07, 2004, 04:11:04 PM
sounds good, i want to be a tester.
Title:
Post by: Xen on September 07, 2004, 04:18:22 PM
Yeah, fine, but I warn you, this first demo I'll be doing ISN'T playable, or so I think, but if that's a dissapointment to anyone just say and I'll make it playable. I was really only planning to make the fight scene with the dragon. That'll take AGES to make and I mean AGES! I have to get sprite animations for shiuyen up to scratch and make the big dragon that Shiuyen fights. I'll keep you updated on it's progress anyway.....
Title: About weapons....
Post by: Xen on September 07, 2004, 07:10:44 PM
Like most RPG's, you can get many different weapons from shops, enimies and such. But, my RPG is different. Let me explain....

Okay, in the world of Dragon Twilight, there may be cases when certain people don't want to part with the weapon they used for years on end. This is where power crystals come in.
A power crystal can be inserted into the hilt of a weapon to give weapons unearthly amounts of power. These crystals could make a dagger as powerful as a folded Titanium Katana blade or a battleaxe as light as a feather. But, these crystals are VERY rare and can only found in mines deep under the planet's surface. There is one thing needed with these crystals for them to react however.....
A metal called (are you ready?) Chrymorphasyte (pronounced
cry-morph-a-site). When Chrymorphasyte and a power crystal are put together, the crystal releases it's power, boosting the statistics of whatever the metal is attached to, like a weapon, for example. Chrymorphasyte is also rare and can only be found in the most dangerous of areas (how convenient....).
Master weapon smiths make weapon hilts out Chrymorphasyte with little insertion slots for the crystals for those with large wallets. They can also be specially made rewards for any brave fighters who are willing to bring back metal supplies from these dangerous areas. The amount of crystal slots differ between hilt sizes.
My main character, Shiuyen, has a Chrymorphasyte crafted hilt on his claymore. If you look close enough, you can see 2 crystal slots in the shapes of diamonds. They are dark grey.
 Whew..... That took a while....

Give me your opinions please!
Title: Sounds good.
Post by: Ace of Spades on September 07, 2004, 08:16:59 PM
The crystal idea is cool, but sounds similar to KH. In KH you have a keyblade (very dumb weapon) and attach a keychain to it to increase its power. But then again the appearance changes. So I guess the idea is pretty well thought out. But I don't know if its been used in other games. BTW: I think that your 2nd idea was better as well.
Title:
Post by: Xen on September 08, 2004, 02:55:39 PM
Thanks for telling me. I wasn't thinking of KH when I made the weapon system. But, the truth is, I just can't be bothered to get tons of different weapon sets for each and every charcter.

I can tell you that there is another game that use a similar system. Ever heard of Arc?

You can equip items to your weapons that give them better effects. It's not very good though......
Title: The Dragon!
Post by: Xen on September 09, 2004, 04:55:51 PM
I've just finished creating the draft for the Dragon that Shiuyen fights at the beginning! It's not all finished yet however and it still needs a lot of editing. It's just to show you what it looks like(I took the design from the RTP dragon monster set, if you hadn't notice).
Anyway, here it is.........and don't laugh, please.........

I'd just like to announce that the progress speed of my demo's completion has slowed down even more, by about 100%!
I've gotta complete my brother's b-charsets for him and he won't stop moaning at me until they're finished!!!!!! :yell:  :yell:
Sorry for any incovenience......
Title: And it's about time too!

I have got 2 more screenshots of my game, they're not much but here they are anyway.
Title: Number 1!
Post by: Xen on September 12, 2004, 03:13:30 PM
This is a part of the area where Shiuyen fights with the Dark Dragon.

If anyone recognises the chipset used as being theirs, can you please tell me? My brother got this one from here and I didn't see him get it, so I don't know it's author. Thanks!

This is merely what my menu screen looks like with the system set I made by myself.

What do you mean by again?
I've only put 1 dragon charset on........
Title:

The chipset in the first screen is by Mack & Blue.
I actually have a good feelin' about this. You're not an idiot, I can tell, so that's the first step.
Title:
Post by: Xen on September 14, 2004, 01:34:57 PM
Thanks Red Giant for the author of the chipset I am using.
Title: I have a question....
Post by: Xen on September 14, 2004, 05:01:18 PM
A simple question to all those interested in 'Dragon Twilight'.
Does anyone actually think they will lose interest of this RPG due to a very long wait for a demo?
It's been really bugging me due to the fact that everything gets in the way of it's progress. Mainly school and my brother's 6 b charsets (which he keeps moaning to me about)....
And also the fact that the demo might not be worth the wait and very short. Would that put anyone off?

Alot of people would be. But keep at it. I'll be waiting, and if you produce the game in the end people will play.
I'd rather wait a long time than not have anything to wait for.

isn't that from FFX-2

and i'm looking forward to the demo
i volunteer to be a beta tester and help you if you need help with

To Drace:
1)Well yes, Shiuyen is from FFX-2 but I like that name. It sounds cool.
2)Yes, you can beta test the game (when it's reached good points I'll let anyone willing to test it, test it).
3)I know it sounds selfish, but I really don't want any help with the game's resources and storyline. I want it to be a '100% Xen product' (or nearly a '100% Xen product' due to the fact that I am using chipsets and such made by people on this website). I may call for your help if it's needed and anyone else who want to help me....

BTW:What's wrong with the title screen? What was you going to change?
Title: I'm putting it on hold.....
Post by: Xen on September 15, 2004, 02:22:15 PM
The progress of 'Dragon Twilight' is going to be stopped for the time being.
I'm gonna finish my brother's b-charsets so they are out of the way once and for all. I'll be sure to continue progress after it is done.....

Sorry for any inconvenience....

I'll keep everyone updated on it's progress! :)

Title: List of stuff for Demo....
Post by: Xen on September 17, 2004, 10:16:14 PM
Here is a list of the things that I will be in my demo.
Well, most of them anyway....
I think....

- A Dragon Charset
- Shiuyen's Charset
- Dragon Roars
- The map in which Shiuyen fights the Dragon
- Battle animations for Shiuyen (not sure about this yet....)
- World Map
- Map of the Village, Graft
- Map of the City, Unith (Need Chipset though....)
- Several Charset animations for Shiuyen and the Dragon (This will take ages!)

Also, correct me if I'm wrong but I had a thought about the Dragon fight scene. Everyone does actually know you watch this fight, right?

Right?

Title: Please Help!
Post by: Xen on September 19, 2004, 04:54:59 PM
I need some help with Dragon Twilight's story. Can anyone give me advice on how to bring the game's story around without having it straight to the point?

Like, when Shiuyen has the strange dream, I don't want it to be something like this:

"You are the one who will must save the world Shiuyen. Go to Hydratha and carry on your adventures" blah, blah, blah....

It would make the game have a crappy storyline....

Also I am thinking a very special twist to the story....
But it's confidential so you won't get the info out of me!

Back to the question...

Can anyone help?
Title:

Title: Having a thought here....
Post by: Xen on September 22, 2004, 04:53:21 PM
If the Demo proves successful and grabs more interest, I may think about adding a cliffhanger to the very end of Dragon Twilight.
And if the whole game becomes successful, I may even make a new game carrying from this Cliffhanger. I know it's a bit early to think about this but, tell me if you think this would be a good idea.

Also, I've updated the title screen, here's a screenshot of it....
Title: I have another screenshot!!!!
Post by: Xen on September 29, 2004, 08:28:15 PM
I finally have a new screenshot!! It's not much but as you can see, it contains that dragon I made (I'm still checking it for glitches) and Shiuyen infront of it. I did that as a sort of scale to show the size difference between Shiuyen and the Dark Dragon.

Tell me what you think!!!
Title:
Post by: Red Giant on September 29, 2004, 09:16:39 PM
The angle doesn't look right. I know yez just testing, but it needs to be coming out of a cave, or up against a wall or something.
Title:

Title:

The dragon is fair, and I think that character set might need some fixing up, more shading, less bright bitmap colors.
Title:
Post by: Xen on September 30, 2004, 07:18:51 AM
Red Giant: The dragon is going to fly into the scene. I was thinking of having a large shadow of it shoot over the bottom of the area, off the top of the screen, hearing it land and then making Shiuyen appear. Shiuyen will draw his sword and run up to it.

Drenin2120:I need to work on my map skills a bit so the map should contain a lot more than it does at the moment.

GhostClown212:I was thinking about that with what you said about Shiuyen. He does need lots of work, he is my first made character anyway. I'll leave his graphics till some other time.

Well, I could have something that happening before the fight scene...
It'd probably add more to the intro itself....
Maybe someone could make a charset or chipset of a large cave entrance for me?

BTW:I've decided that my game won't be a '100% Xen product' 'cause I can't make everything and I feel really selfish to people who are willing to help me make tis game, like Drace for example. So if you want to help me with a few things (graphic wise I mean) then just say....

The progress of Dragon Twilight is slowing down because of me brother's (Nightmare_777's) RPG brainwave. I've gotta help him.....
Yes we ARE brothers! I right at home with him now!
Anyway......

I may not post anything else about my game here 'cause it'll probably be on my website, but here's a list of the things that you should expect to see in MY RPG! (I'm competing with my bro so I'm desperate here....lol....)

1)Large creatures all in charset form.
2)Immaculate special effects.
3)Smooth animation.
4)Another 3 characters.
5)Hand made battle chars. (No crappy RTP format)
6)CMS! YAY! Stuff like Bestairys, Character Profiles, etc, blah blah blah....
7)A twist in the plot.....Go away, I'm not telling you what it is.....
8)A sequel........
9)My sequel's sequel
10)World Domination!!!! MWA HA HA!!!! Wait, forget that one....

Yes, I really am desperate....
My whole game should be here in about 3 years or so.....
Yes, 3 WHOLE YEARS!
Or longer, I don't know.....
The demo, on the other hand, my first demo, that is, will be here in a few months...
So, so don't rush me....
Please.....

There are a few changes to be done Drace. It's cool so far though.
Just make the title and the sub title smaller so that they can fit in the top left corner if the screen.

I don't want the title to be obscured by the menu.

The 3D effect isn't that noticable_sweat_ , but on full screen, it's easy to see.

I decided to leave the world of graphics production for a while and start focusing on the world of music. I made a small part of the game's theme which is about 24 seconds long...

Tell me what you think!

otherwise you might end up hitting a dead end with the game or something.

Hard to progress when you don't even know where it's going.. yah know?..

Even worse, even though it's fun to kind of make stuff up as you go along to surprise yourself with what you can come up with, you really really don't want to end up having to go back and change something because everything was made up as you go along and it just doesn't connect right, if you know what I mean.  I've had that trouble before.  Actually, I'm having that trouble right now kind of.

I still don't have the full story yet, but I keep thinking of stuff to put in my game, if they are good ideas, I lock them in my mind for when I need them, only bringing up thoughts about them from time to time so I don't forget at all...

Okay, I've been thinking 'bout my main character's sword and I made another sword instead. The new sword looks okay(I think) but I like the old one. I just want people to say which one they like better out of the two, so that it makes my choice for my main character's sword that little bit easier...

Here are the two swords:

Number one being the old one, and Number two being the new one I made(which needs some improvement)...

Just give sword two a bit larger handle, then I say use that one.

Sword one is a dark sword, and if it reflects the heros personality (if he acts "evil" or is bad in nature) you should probably use that one.

Thanks to one of my friends, I'm adding something extra to my games intro. As you all (should) know, the intro scene is the dragon fight scene, but the bit I am adding is before the fight scene.
The cave that the Dark Dragon resides in, was a temple, but that was five years ago from my game's current time. In this temple, lies some evil dragon armour, in which some dragons are sent to retrieve it. I'm not letting anything out about it yet though, 'cause I need to get maps, charsets, etc. Let's just say that the dragons go to retrieve the armour, and 'stuff' happens, and something happens after that, and so on, and so forth.
I'll update about the extra part of the intro when I progress further....
Title: Update...update...update...
Post by: Xen on December 21, 2004, 09:21:40 PM
I haven't progressed much further on my game 'cause a lot of stuff to do with my life has drastically gotten in the way. But as long as I am still making this game, I'm not sure that really matters...

Anyway, as for the update...

In this game, the dragons will have their own language, it is similar to the Al Bhed language from FFX (the letters in english are replaced with a different letter, for those of you who don't know, like A=E, and so on), but the way I did it, the language looks pretty much like utter nonesense. I'll show you what I mean:

The phrase 'The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog' uses every letter of the alphabet (well...duh!!), so I'll change it to my game's dragon language...like so:

The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog

In Dragon, it looks like this:

Xmn Vjofe Kculh dub gjtyns uinc xmn zqrw sua

See what I mean about the utter nonesense.

Anyway, more on that intro....

As I mentioned in the last update, I will be putting a little extra on the intro before the dragon fight scene. The extra part of the intro introduces a dragon warrior called .:Insert name here(I will take suggestions):. who, with a bunch of dragon soldiers, have been sent to an old temple to retrieve some armour.
This is no normal armour however (well, of course not! What would be the point of it's importance!?), it contains the ancient plague of the Xercas (Xercas are dragon zombies,  click this (http://img44.exs.cx/img44/3187/Xercasimproved.png) for an idea of their apperance), the plague that mutates dragons into flesh hungry (any flesh, dragon, human, monster, and so on) dragon zombies, the Xercas.
The armour is being retrieved so it can be destroyed in a holy ceremony, and so that the Xercas plague can be ridded from the world. In ancient dragon legend, it says that if a dragon wears the armour, it consumes that dragon, and the plague of the Xercas takes over them. That dragon can then use the plague to their wanting.
In this extended intro, you can explore the temple as the dragon warrior. I plan to have many puzzles blocking the way to the armour, but I'm not sure what yet.
Upon reaching the armour room, the dragon warrior goes on inside, but is manipulated by plague within the armour, which shows him distant, horrible memories, and it enrages him. After this, the plague has him under it's contol, and he puts on the armour....

That is all of the extra part of the intro.

I don't have screenies yet, but I'll put 'em here when I get some.
Title:
Post by: DragonBlaze on December 21, 2004, 09:49:31 PM
Cool, the intro sounds pretty good :)

The only thing is that for the dragon language, some of those words would be imposible to pronouce without vowels. I know you want it to look like nonsence, but if it is a language, it would probably be best if it could actually be spoken. If you're worried that replacing a vowel with another vowel would make the language too easy to figure out, you can always use a "made up" language.

Oh and you know what would be really cool? If you had it so that like in FFX you could get "primers" that would change one of there leters to English.  :jumpin:
Title:
Post by: Xen on December 21, 2004, 10:29:37 PM
Okay, I gotta admit, the dragon language is all one big screw up. But I may have a little play with the letters a bit, and try and give the language a bit of pronouctiation (however it's spelt). I'm still working on that language.

And about the intro, thanks Dragonblaze!

EDIT: Also, the primer-like thing would'nt work, for certain reasons which I am not entitled to say.

Oh and Xen, if the language is meant to be hard to speak (at least for us humans) then by all means you should keep it the way it is.

Well, I did wanna give the language a kind of mysterious feel to it, but not to an extent to where it couldn't be spoken with ease. But maybe it seems okay, because on my game, humans cannot translate the language in any way, unless they have a dragon with them.

Hmm...I always thought that dragon language was like "roaaaarrrr....rarrr.....rooooooaaaaar.....ROOOOOAAAR!!!!" (lol) Sorry, I had to say that, but anyway, curse you! I have an ancient language in my game too. But the difference with my game, is I am going to have primers, but they're not going to be called that though. Anyway, I'll stop talking about my game now, seeing as this is a thread on YOUR game. The game is looking cool so far, keep at it. I like the intro too. This game should become interesting...Keep up the good work! :D

Wow, looks good so far, and your site is cool too. The midi is also great, so thumbs up all round, I think.

I was a bit worried back their as your first plotline sounded too much like mine!!! But your plotline now is inventive and different.

The only problem is perhaps the speed you're going at. You don't seem to be getting much done, and sometimes that makes games grind to a halt... Anyway, yeah, good good good. I'd like to play the demo when it comes out.

Some advice on the dragon language. Change the vowels to a different vowels otherwise the wors won't make much sense. And just mix all the other letters up. The game sounds very worthwhile and i suspect will be big. Keep up the good work kid.

Yeah, the progress of this game is very slow, but I can't help that. I've got loads of school work to catch up on(my fault), and my motivation to get the game done isn't great either.
I don't see this game grinding to a halt though, I mean, look at what I'm planning to do. I'm not gonna give that up when everyone really wants a demo. It's my first RPG too, so I really want to complete it.

Post by: Xen on December 29, 2004, 06:13:52 PM
A small update, I'm getting maps complete at the moment, which are maps for the inside of the temple. I'm gonna have to use colours from chipset I'm using for the temple to create a few custom things. But I can take care of that.

Screenies may be available in a couple of days, I'm waiting for Dragonblaze to finish a Dragon charset for me, so screenies won't be able to be put up until I have the charset. But while I wait, I can work on the temple itself.

Oh, and I'm having a little go with midis, but I may need help with that. I'm getting a little practice. Although I have something to update on that too. I was playing with midi sounds when I cooked up a little tune. It sounded okay, so it's gonna go in my game, but it's gonna be spruced up a bit. I kinda was thinking of making it the Dragon's holy tune or something. I've attached the song.
Title:
Post by: Xen on December 29, 2004, 11:05:52 PM
Here's a screenie... (check bottom of post)

I did the things with the coloured gems in myself, taking colours from the chipset used. It's inside the Dragon temple in case anyone was wondering. The gems are activated when each of the 4 puzzles are completed(one for every gem), when all gems are activated, the door (there's no door, yet, I'm working on it) opens and the way is made clear.

If anyone has any puzzle ideas for me, let me know because I have only one idea. Which is basic block pushing. I really need some ideas...
Title:
Post by: Robotam on December 29, 2004, 11:24:59 PM
Pretty good.
But you should detail it somehow, there's allways a way to make a map look better! ;)
Title:
Post by: Xen on December 29, 2004, 11:29:19 PM
Yeah, the map does look a little barren, there is a little bit more downwards from the gems though, but still, it needs detailing.

Title:

Changing color tiles? Like, you have to have a certain pattern. Each tile could have 2 colors, red and yellow. You hit enter on it, and it changes to the other color. When the right pattern is put in, then the puzzle is solved.
Another idea: Switches! You have to hit them in a certain order to solve it.

Do you still need Ideas for puzzle?
One Idea for you is one where there is a field of ice, and when you walk on it, you slip until you hit a rock or a wall or something.  And then you have to navigate it right to get out.  May even be able to add it so you can only step on each tile once, otherwise it breaks.

Hope these work.  (Oh ya, and the language looks cool)

(Forgot to check this thread, so the reply is a little late)

Hey, that's a good idea Tomi! I think I may use it, although, the puzzles will be done by Dragons, so an ice floor room would'nt work, because they could just fly over it, unless I have it so the dragons cannot use their wings because the room is too cold or something.

But thanks for suggesting anyway!

I haven't been able to update for a while, as I haven't been able to work on my game, because of school.

I want people to give me feedback on a MIDI I'm making for the game's intro. It's not very long at the moment, as it's still in progress, so there'll be more on the end of it's current state.

Any feedback would be kindly appreciated!

I'd like to share the CMS I'm currently working on:

http://img208.exs.cx/img208/3690/cmsdraftforforums2nk.png

I'll explain the menu list:

Item - Obvious, but I'm gonna try and have my own items menu for this, using the items in the already made rm2k3 menu.

Techniques - Also obvious, but I'll make 'em all myself, with variables and switches, and such.

Equip - Also obvious. And again, but I may do the same for this as what I'm gonna do with the items...

Status - *sighs* Obvious...again. The stats will be made using variables which trigger pictures and stuff.

Journal - The journal will have 2 sections, which are: Quests (including Side Quests) and the story so far, from the main character's point of view.

Bestiary - This contains a list of all the monsters encountered in the game, including Profile pictures (Not sure yet), stats, and descriptions.

Information - This part will contain all the things you may(?) want to know about the world of Dragon Twilight, includong Character Profiles, info about the lands, towns, cities etc, and other stuff.

Tutorial - A guide to some of the features in the game. Although I haven't got any features yet...

Options - Obvious.

Quit - Obvious.

Also, the black background on the CMS will be slightly transparent, so you can see the game still behind the CMS, although the game will be paused.

Well? Any good?

(Note that the CMS is not a screenie, but I'll post it in action once I get it working)

The thing is that usually CMS's don't work as good as the DMS, and if your system is basically a copy of the DMS, I say just stick to the DMS. I may be wrong though :). Just make sure you pack it with a bunch of cool features the DMS dosen't have  :D

Anyway good luck with it!

Yeah, the CMS is practically the same as the DMS because I'm a little short for ideas XD, but it will also have a few extras, such as the area you are currently in (labelled in bottom left box on CMS example) for example. Not sure how I'll set out the character display area (big box on right) yet though...

I'll be sure to update as the CMS progresses. It may take a while for me though, as I've never done CMS before. XD

XD

Heres a little progress report, I've finished getting the cursor to move between the 10 options in the menu list. I can't really work on everything yet, as I'm not far enough through making the game, I have insufficient resources...or maybe...both...
I'll post a screenie of it in action soon.

I've been able to make it so that the 10 different areas of the CMS (Items, Equip, Status, etc) can be highlighted. Also, I've just finished the 'Quit' part, as it's the only part I have the right resources to make XD. Here's a screenie of the quit screen:

Meh, not much, but it's still an update...

I'll update more as I progress.

I've got another MIDI I need some opinions on. I decided to redo the intro theme, as, in my opinion, it sucked. I'm not sure if this one is better than the previous one, but I believe it has a better feel for an intro to it.

I must also tell everyone that I've halted progress on the CMS at this moment, as I'm not really going to need it yet. I'm progressing with certain features as I get to needing them, so I'll be contuning this CMS for when it can be used in the game.

Anyway, the MIDI's at attached to this post, enjoy, and any feedback would be appreciated.

Cool. I like it.

By the way, do you still need puzzle ideas?

Yeah, I still require some. I won't need them right at the moment, but you can still post any ideas if you have any.

Righty, my puzzle idea. By the way, I used this in my game:

1) Go to Seventh Sanctum (http://www.seventhsanctum.com) and then to Equipment. Click on the Bookspinner.

2) Think of a password, or some word that you need to complete the puzzle. Take note of all the letters of that word.

3) Then, generate some book names, the first letters of which are the same as the letters of the word. So, for example, if the password is XEN, you could have: "Xylophones through the ages", "Enemies on the World Map", and "Nala the Bold - Myth or Fact?".

4) Put them as events in a bookcase, and set choices after them; something like "Take this book off the shelf?" should be just fine. Put some other books there with the same option to make the puzzle harder.

5) Set up some sort of system where, if you take off the three books I named in the right order, it turns on a switch. For explanation purposes, we'll call the switch "Bookcase".

6) Set up your door, with a fork: If switch "Bookcase" is on, open door. Or something like that.

7) For extra difficulty, make the other books set the number of books which are correct and in the right back to zero. That'll really throw 'em off. >:

I used this in my game as a sort of optional sidequest, where the books spell out HADES, and the prize is entry to Hades' Chamber, where you fight him. If you win, you get to keep him as a summon.

Hope that gives ya some ideas.

Just so everyone knows, I've not halted this project. That'll never happen hopefully  ;) .
I've completed the game's first puzzle which is a 4 digit number code for a door. You have to follow a riddle for each of the digits of the code, but here's the twist, every time you play, the code will be different AND there are 36 different riddles. The digits are the number 0-9 and there will be a riddle for each and every one, like the riddle for 1 in the first digit of the code will be different from 1 in the second digit of the code.

Here's a screenie of the puzzle room:

I did the graphics for the number panels and door myself.

Which leads to my next problem, I need people to help me get riddles for the numbers. 36 is a lot, but they aren't my main concern as of yet, so just fire any in you think of. Thanks in advance.

I've started the second puzzle and I'm about halfway through it. It is simply a memory thing (so it ain't really a puzzle XD) where a certain number of pads flash on the room's floor and you need to memorize them and step on them in the right order. There are 4 Phases for it, Phase 1 has 3 to remember, Phase 2 has 4, Phase 3 has 5 and Phase 4 has 6. If you fail any phase, you go back to Phase 1. The pads you memorize are random too.

Also, I may consider using the puzzle you suggested Dragonium, with a few adjustments. Thanks for the suggestion.

That's all for now (I think). I'll update again when I can!
