It is to a waste of bandwidth because 90% of the newbs who post here only post once or twice. In fact:

regarding to the previous conversation, maybe he's stating hi, and that he'll start being active on the forums. how do you know if he's just saying hi, then never post again?  there is no possible way, case closed.

and red giant, im sorry for your horse, unless your happy now, in which case im happy for you.  :D but if he isnt, im sad... :(
