Title: Dying Embers
Post by: byrdbrayn on September 12, 2004, 02:07:16 AM
A demo and character description will hopefully be relased soon.

I have not figured out the names of some people/places yet. If you would like to help, scroll down to the bottom. If you see ________, that means I don't have a name for this thing yet.

While making this game, I am trying to focus on doing something that's new; never been done before. If I can't accomplish that, than I atleast must combine aspects of things that have been done in a way they've never been combined. Although the name sounds like a stereotypical RPG (spiky hair main character, fire user, home gets destroyed, etc basically as played out as that JoJo song Leave) trust me, its not.

Basically, this is the game's style. I am using the Suikoden/Legion Saga style recruit/duel system (although these aren't new, they aren't played out either). I am also including a really cool assasination system (if you've played splinter cell for the cell phone [only nokia], its kind off like that). Also, your base will be very customizable, almost in comparison to a sim game. All along, I am pulling at a storyline mildly similar to Rurouni Kenshin.

Storyline so far: The main character Tai, short for Taiga, which is tiger in japanese (this is his nickname, you will find out his real name later) is a member of a squad of free-agent assasins, who were very successful during the Kage War (kage means shadow, referring to the fact that this war was mainly fought in the shadows, between assasinations and dirty alliances). Now that the war is over and peace has been reached, they are not ding very well businesswise. One day, as they have just about given up hope, they are contacted by the government of ________, and asked to assasinate some government officials for a very hefty amount of money. However, after assainating one of the officials, Tai uncovers some files on a suspected secret allaince that was the true end of the war, and plans to stop it. Upon realizing this, he meets up with the next offcial he was supposed to assasinate, and realizes he's killing the wrong people. He then goes after the members of the secret alliance, after having all the anti-alliance fake their deaths.

Names i need help with:

____________=Country (French sounding, like Capulet; everything until the dotted line should be in this French-sounding style)
____________=Leader of this country
____________=5-6 Towns (I already have a town named Griss)
____________=3 government officials
--------------------------------------------------------
____________=Country (japanese sounding, but not a real japanese word)
____________=Leader of this country
____________=Secret dictator (really cool name)
____________=Name of an elite guard, can be in japanese if it sounds cool
____________=The 7 members of this guard
____________=5-6 towns

Good looking screenshots. In fact, the bright cheery RTP characters look almost out of place in that fairly modern drab 3rd shot.

The game sounds... well... evil. I am not sure how we are supposed to relate and care about characters who murder people for money as a living. Kenshin worked because Kenshin had such set-in-stone morals about not killing people and was trying to escape his past. But your story sounds like the assassin is just switching targets. Hardly epic stuff.

I suppose it is too early to tell though. Might be fun anyway. Keep us updated on that demo.

I don't think you should use sano for Samurai name.

2 wrong understangings.........as i said his name is sako not sano, and the story is MILDLY like samarai X.......

and i dont want to give away too much, but  they have a very high code of honor u will find out later, and assasination is needed at the time of corrupt politics, kinda like the Shinsengumi, slay evil immidiately, and can you not relate to Saito? if not than u are very shallow.

also, the only assasinations portayed in this game have purpose, the first is belived to be a corrupt politician, and once tai finds who the real corrupt ones are, that is who he assasinates, with his private army, out of pesonal reasons, not for money.

also, throughout the game kenshin like regret recollections occur, and dont say i stole this idea because not only kenshin, but if u think about it most assasins probably regret their past

Hmm.. in case you need any pseudo-japanese names, you could try naming people/places in Kirbyish (my invented language!). A bunch of words are on my website (I don't know the opinion of links to websites that this board has, so I'll only link to this specific page, with Kirbyish words... some boards get really annoyed at linking to front pages for some reason). Some words in there sound japanesey, but aren't actual japanese words as far as I know (they could be, who knows.. I don't speak japanese, so I only know the words people overuse in fanfiction and stuff...)

Also. The List of already-made Kirbyish names that = english names.

You said its midly like Samurai X,Do you mean Samurai X or RK.Both were made by diffrent company directors and authors and are both diffret they only include the same main character.Samurai X is realistic,RK includes Kenshin jumping 100 feet in the air to scream and do special attacks.

No, Samauri X is also unrealistic. in the samauri x movie, kenshin does his ryutsuisen, and jumps about 50 ft. into the air. And no matter how good you are, you just can't move at 100 mph.

Anyway, it is kinda like either but more or less RK.

Heres how:
Both
-Main character assasin
RK
-Regrets past
-Has a mojor change in personality
-Has a dirty past, and is differnt now
-takes place in a new era
Sam. X
-Still kills

but thats it. not toooooo much in common, like I said MILDLY.

No, I really cannot relate to Saito. The whole "slay evil immediately" thing sounds good but, in the end, was little more then an excuse for him to go murder people haphazardly. His whole character was right in the middle of the gray area between good and evil. He did some noble things such as trying to save villages from being controlled by crime gangs, but then he also went and killed people, which is never a good thing. He is a terribly complicated character that probably needed a few past episodes to explain what his deal was.

I do not think this confusion makes me "very shallow" though.

sry for putting it that way.

however, personally, i relate to kenshin in some ways, but also i relate to saito in others, 1 being the fact that saito, after the revolution, never really takes one side and sets it, but instead he follows his heart. also, he puts on a tough front, but if he was still shinsengumi-hard like he was during the revolution, he would have killed sano instead of wounding him, and probably killed him in tokyo so he wouldn't come to kyoto and become a disurbance. also, he only kills when neccisary.

did u enjoy legion saga triology?(i assume you played it) personnaly i think nastra's had a kill evil immidiately viewpoint, and kima followed orders from the peregrin guard without even thinking at first, but of course he changed. anyway, you have to play the game to know what i mean, in in a way saito had better ideas than kenshin, especially when it came to shi shi oh. kenshin could have saved many more lives by killing him, because a person as hard as him could never change like aioshi did, and saito knew this, but kenshin still didn't want to kill. in a way, not killing is nice, but even kenshin says that using the sword only to protect is a nice ideal, but could never happen (when he saves kaoru from the fake battousai)

sry if i offended any1. im not tryin 2 start anything with you or nandez, or any1 else who doesnt share my viewpoints, and i dont want to change your mindset on anything, because i understand that people have different opinions, but please respect mine. if u dont like my game, dont play it. im not offended in any way, and i dont mind your criticism, but it doesnt neccisary mean i am going to change my whole storyline to fit in with what everyone thinks, and if u really do play my game, i have no intention of making tai and the rest come across as cold blooded killers, and i never have. im jus trying to keep my game real, and in the real world, corrupt people must die, in my viewpoint

I have just thought up a new feature for my game:
 a series of tournaments that goes more in depth than most RPGS (not just a 1 time tournament), maybe kinda like the kingdom hearts tournament

anyway, i thought id do something creative and use the people from charas as the people tai and crew will fight in the tournament

so, anybody who wants to be in the tournament, provide a faceset, charaset, and atleast a 1-pose battlecharaset (i only need 1 pose because i will set u as a monster) if u can't do the battlechara, atleast try and i will touch it up, and im not guarunteeing everyone a slot, so dont get mad if i say no (especially if ur chara is a pokemon or sumthing dumb like that no offence, pokefreaks, but it doesn't fit into this game)

Yea, i know this is a kick, but i would have to kick it to say that my demo was done anyway

well anyway the demo is almost there, and im about done the first little stealth splinter cell mission (the first one is relatively easy, but they will definately get harder)
