Title: New Game
Post by: rhonin on November 05, 2004, 10:03:51 PM
Okay, since you guys shot down SGR, I decided to start on a new game. It's goin' good, but I wanna check it with you guys before I get too far. I don't have a name yet, but here's how it goes:

Your a sailor on a ship, but you slack off, sleep in, and are always late to your work, so the captain throws you off at Hilpale Island. At first you are freaked out, you have nowhere to go, no job, and no friends. But then you remember you have some distant relitive on the island. He's in the realestate business, and can get you a good deal on some property. You buy a little shack in the woods.

You look for work, but find out only the big shots get any real money, so you have to set out to make a name for yourself. As you become more popular more jobs and property open up to you. You become over run with this new way of life and decide you can't rest until your the most powerful person on the island.

Features:
Custom Battle System
Weather Effects (hopefully)
Battle Class Selection (Warrior, Mage, and Archer)
Buy and Sell Property
Fishing and Cooking System

Well, what do you guys think?

i agree with mrmister a little bit. the remembering he has distant relitaves on the island is pretty weak.  you want to do something about that, but keep going with the game anyways.

Itd be much better if your distant relative finds YOU and offers you the land, on hearing your situation.

ok, ok, the whole relitive thing is crappy, but the weather effect thing, I mean random weather effect. Like, it'll randomly start raining or snowing or something.

That isn't anything too new, that weather event thing, but it could be good if somehow the weather occasionally affects your progress, like if it rains, your business (if that's what you wish) is slow, or a severe storm destroys your property, etc.
The game sounds pretty decent, but what's the motive?  Why does the character want to be the most powerful person on the island?  In what way, economically or in "government?"  Are his intentions good or evil?

That seems like a bad idea. One day it's snowing, the next it's sunny, and the next it's raining?

Now that i have your attention, I must say a few things about the contributors to this website. Firstly, Everyone says that everything is Cliche, but when they create their own games they are for the most part extentions of an already existing game. Such as final fantasy, Megaman, sonic, or some other thing to that extent. From what i have seen in this game it seems that the storyline revolves, and changes around how you build your island. You can rule it with an evil fist of hard clenched doom. Thus making missions that make it so you have to make the townsfolk fear you more. If you are a kind ruler, you do things that contribute to the islanders complete well-being. My second comment is for people talking about the weather effect thing, he means that is random and it doesnt always rain at one point or another. Maybe if you asked what he meant by (Weather effects) instead of making comments that take no more intelligence than that of a tree. I myself believe that Rhonin was thinking outside of the box, trying to create a game concerned not so much with a story-line as much as something that pushes the envelope and allows you to make the game uniquely your own.  I commend him for thinking up an excellent idea for a game. One final thing, Dont tell me that this game is Cliche because i highly doubt that the majority of you people who use it have the slightest clue what it means.

The hell? We're talking like adults, we pointed out things that we thought were bad about his game, so he could make it BETTER and then have a BETTER game on his hands. Its called disscussion.
The only person who has done anything borderline flaming is MrMister, and quite frankly you topped him with the title of this post.
Just when I thought we could have a normal conversation on this forum...

EDIT
And I find it incredibly hypocritical that you can say we're wrong for criticism when you can critisize "Memory Island". Learn that the world does not always have the same opinion as you.

Alright, I've changed the storyline. Things are goin' good for you, you have a job that puts food on the table, you have a hot girlfriend, and you've got a house that's livable. But one day after working on the fields, you come home and your girlfriend burned down your house and ran away with your landlord. You need to start it all over, so your friend recommends you to a guy that buys and sell property on Hillpale Island. You decied it's probably the best way to get yourself back on your feet and you move to Hillpale.

I liked the old story better. Unless you want to make it a humor-ish game, which rarely works.

okay, another story change, your house still burned down, but you don't know who did it, and why. But you find out who later on in the story and try to kill them. But heh, wouldn't you be pissed off too if somebody tried to kill you?

As for the random stuff, it relies on random var. comands. It's kind of a long process. Just check out some of the Tuts on Gaming World.

That Mr.mister is a swack diddlin' fool.  He ain't got no hoop dreams so swanglin' ain't in the picture.  Random weatha effects means "random" weather effects not just....rain...snow...cheese.
Mr.mister is a terrible fool.

The Weasel Overall Rating:
8 out of 10

The you remember you have a relative on the island is pretty weak sounding, certainly not "cliche" as some peoples would say.  But overall the game has promise and swack diddlin' skill.

Word up tranglaz

You probably didn't want to call Mr.mister a "swack diddlin' fool" He's a hateful little ball of fury...
