Title: Final Era Demo 1.0 Realese
Post by: Sephiroth rocks on November 06, 2004, 12:46:37 PM
I'm almost done with my first demo now. The deadline's 1 December 2004. It's been a while since i began on it already in fall, 2003 but there've been some probs. But the demo's almost finished now and it's gonna be a long one at least one full hour of play. Info and screenshots 'bout the game can be found here. I'm sure this has been said before, but how do you make those translucent message boxes?  I've actually seen a tut somewhere on it, but I didn't look at it and I don't want to have to bother with looking for it again.

Ermm...first of all, why are you asking that here? Secondly, do you mean when the writing is like a bluish white transparent color and there's no message box, just words? If so, then go to message display options in the event database before you want the text to be like that and click transparent.

Dunno why I asked that here.  It just came to my mind when I saw it.  And no, I don't mean without a message box; I know how to do that.  I mean, with the translucent boxes like in his screenshots.  And sorry for asking that here.

To make a message box semi-transparent: There are two ways to do this, the first way is if you get a picture of the menu background. Then before you type the message, desplay the menu picture, but make sure its like 20-50% transparent (or whatever % you want). Then after the message erase the pic. When you do this though you have to make sure that in the menu options you have transparent selected. It would also be a good idea to un-select the option that auto-positions your text.

The other way to do it, (which is much easier but can only be done in rm2k3) is to go to you database, go to battle layout, and under the "battle type" box there is an option called "transparent. The only problem with doing it this way is that you battle menus will also be transparent if you like it or not.

Hope that helped :D

Back on topic: well your using a lot of rtp gfx which dissapoints me, but unlike most games that use rtp gfx, the maps are put together rather nicely. So I guess I'll just have to wait and play your game before I can tell if its good or not :D

There's like 5% RTP. I think you'll survive that.

When you say 5%, do you mean the RTP sounds to or just the graphics?

I include RTP sound when I say 5%. I don't use any RTP midis and I've replaced many system sfx with FF7 ones.

Okay a lil update. I've almost got my equipment-learning system to work and it's actually pretty neat, but still I don't think I can make it to the deadline. I might can complete the demo to the 1st december but I won't have enough time to betatest it. It'll be out 'bout 15th December instead but then it'll be fully beta tested.

I've replied. Keep 'em comming! The more testers the better. You'll be creditted in the full version of the demo (but note you'll have to have at least 5.8 Mb of space at you're mail which some crappy netmails doesn't have).

okay, I just started the game and already found some problems.
For starters, there is no opening cut scene, you just go straight to the gameplay, and I had no idea what I'm supposed to be doing.
Second, I walked into the castle place, and the walls seem to be eating people. Look at the attachment.

Actually, there is an opening cut scene. He just forgot to put the start party position where that is. I did the same thing. lol.

Yeah the party starting position thingy was a really dumb bug. It should've been at map 41. So if you think the intro suck then it's 'cuz it wasn't supposed to be the intro anyway. I recommend all betatesters to set the starting position to the right one 'cuz else you'll miss most of the story. Sorry!

Doesn't anyone have any comments on the CMS? I thought it'd probably have many bugs. In the end does anyone have any comments on the game at all?

Ok, just got finished playing the demo, and my overall opinion is that its was pretty fun.  Besides the fun-ness, there were many bugs.

1) Many of the counters (like in shops and bars) were able to be gone under (as in being able to stand next to the bartender).  I'm not sure if it was supposed to be like that, but I don't think it should.

2) The spelling wasn't horrible, but mistakes like "excample" instead of  "example",  and "thrust" instead of "trust", were somewhat common.  Also, some of the words in conversations got cut off.  (One place was where the sultan was talking about the pilot)

3) There were a couple times when after you changed the hero graphic to one with armor, or the one that represented all the soldiers, you forgot to change it back until a little while after it should have.

4) Just a personal taste, but I didnt like the fact that there were MANY houses in towns that had nothing at all in them.  I can understand if you are going to add stuff later, but I dont suggest you leave all of them empty.

And for your Menu bugs...
1) When you tried to equip a hat to the samurai (sorry, I can remember the names right now), instead of a helmet menu coming up when you hit Helmet, the shield menu came up.

2) This is more of a suggestion than a bug, but when you are in the main menu, and you press x or esc to go back to the map, you just appear back in the same spot in the menu.  I suggest that you make it so when you press x or esc (the cancel button), it goes back to the map, instead of back where it is.

There were also some graphic bugs, as seen in the attachment.

Other than that, you have a pretty good game there.  I cant wait for the full version to come out! :D
