Title: Destiny Myst
Post by: aznmyst on November 07, 2004, 01:56:55 AM
I created this game called Destiny Myst and I have the demo all ready.  The problem is that, the demo alone is already over 100mb due to the cinema, musics, and graphics.  If anyone knows how I can minimize this, or just know a place I can store that much for free, I'd be real helpful.  What's the point on having a great game like this if I can't show it and inspire others.  The finished product that I am currently working on will have voice overs.  I got plenty of friends already recording the voice for the game.  Another help I need is the screenshot.  I can't use the print screen command therefore I can't give any screen shot of the game.  If you know how to do this, just tell me and I'll post the screenshot as soon as I can.
Note: You might be thinking that I must be some cocky little ***** to compare this game with FF7, but the truth is, it can be compared.  The storyline is just one thing to compare it with, but the graphics are as good as it can be.  Movies, Voices, and a custom made Jukebox, and Casino minigames, are the things that make this game comparable with it.  I really want to show a demo to people to inspire them to think outside the box and use the system's full potential.  Well I leave you guys to believe me or not, but as soon as someone can help me set up a demo release, It's ready to be seen.

There is a button next to F12 at the top of your keyboard. Print Screen. Press that while playing your game to take a screenshot. Then in a painting program like paint, choose paste.

And *BRAINMUSH* Voice overs? Movies? Ack! What you could do is split up the game into seperate folders and zip em up, then host them on multiple hosts.

Phew, sounds like you took a LOT of work on this one.  Good job!  Let's just hope that eventually it's more than jsut eye and ear candy.
Title: Thanks
Post by: aznmyst on November 07, 2004, 09:47:04 AM
Thanks for your advice Red Giant, I can now take screen shot except for movies since it's only taking the black background not the movie itself.  And for you comment just1question, my number one priority is still the story line and if all of those graphics, music, voices, and storyline wasn't enough, I added many minigames, including dice, black jack, wagon racing, and many more.  But i wasn't supposed to reveal this yet because it's not completely done but, i created a side quest for monster taming, it's practically like pokemon battle but you only get to use 1 monster through out the monster island.  I'm placing more info in my website at www.zone.alturl.com.

A hence the big *** file save par tof the problem has to be the mp3s.Unless those are the annoying midis of the song.

Linkin Park=Cool

Three Days Grace=Ok

Blink 182+Good Charlotte=What kind of torture is this its unbearable!

The mp3 files are the real songs, but those aren't the real problems.  It's the movie files.  And hey, what's wrong with blink 182 and Good Charlotte, I like their songs.  Oh well it's not like you have to listen to them.  Well here's a pic on one of the towns.  I don't want to reveal too much of the game so I won't show the town that is very critical to the storyline.

Erm....not many people like rtp. And also, the mapping isn't really that great. Your Inn is quite huge and the buildings aren't really assembled correctly. But the rtp thing you're probably going to have to change because not many people like it.

Yah sorry about those basic rtp but I been working on a bunch of stuff in the game that I don't really have the stamina to use a different rtp.  Some things in the game has to be sacrificed.  Maybe when I'm completely done with the game, I'll recreate it and call it Destiny Myst: Advance Version lol

Maybe passing judgment on the game would be a little easier if you'd post some more screenshots, maybe of battles or dialogue.
But you can't use Print Screen...why is that?
Title: Elodin City
Post by: aznmyst on November 07, 2004, 09:58:33 PM
Elodin City is actually the smallest city in the game.  The biggest city is Dodoran City which contains a military installation, a castle, 25 accessible houses, 30 non accessible houses, 2 Inn, 2 Pub, and an airport for airships.  An underground tunnel was also built to make it easier to move around the city.  Elodin City was made small so that it does not confuse players who just started playing the game.  I am testing out a way on using pre rendered world graphics like on ff7, but the problem with it is that I don't have all the resource that I need to create a really decent world.  I am using the basic rtp since it is very easy to work with.  Well thanks for all your comments.  If you guys have any other suggestions, just tell me.  If you think of something that you think would be a real cool mini game or sidequest, let me know also.
Title: Battle Pic
Post by: aznmyst on November 08, 2004, 12:26:03 AM
Perhaps one of the great things about this game is the battle.  Every RPG game I played before dissapointed me with their battle.  How you ask?  Well, they get very repetitive and the environment doesn't affect the battle.  I played pokemon games and I finally saw an rpg use the environment.  However, it wasn't enough, so I decided to fix that.  I also played FFX-2 which uses a great combo system when there are multiple characters in a battle so I decided to use that also.  Well I thought of something, wouldn't it be great to create a combo system that includes the environment.  So I decided to make it.  That's one of the thing in my battle system.  Another thing I used in my game is the summon spell and the transformation spell which let's you combine yourself with your summon.  I played so much Final Fantasy Games and that's where I mostly get my ideas.  Well here's a picture of the battle to give you an idea of what I'm talking about.  I'll post more pics when I get the time.

Title: Transform
Post by: aznmyst on November 08, 2004, 05:10:37 AM
Here is another picture of a battle scene!  This time is when a player uses the Transform Command.  After a player uses the summon spell, he will have the choice to Transform into that monster (In this game, transform actually means fuse).  When a player is transformed into a monster, he will have a couple of unique attacks designed just for that transformation.  They are more powerful than regular attacks since it will actually take them 3 turns to perform an attack.  1 of the attacks during the transformation is a powerful basic attack, but the 2nd attack (Fly for this event) is more unique.  It will offer the player to avoid the attack and combine it with another character's special attack for an even more powerful attack.

sounds and looks good! Except for that RTP town...

Post by: just1question on November 09, 2004, 01:03:00 AM
Sounds like it's gonna turn out pretty good.  Just use a little less RTP, even in the battle systems.  People just don't like RTP.

I find it quite amusing that you just went into paint and pasted that bahamut in there for the screenshot, instead of making an actual system.
Title: Not Pasted
Post by: aznmyst on November 09, 2004, 11:47:47 PM
That isn't just a pasted picture.  It really is real.  I wish I could show the demo already but I still have that over 100mb file size to worry about.  And alright, I'll fix that rtp graphics, you people keep hassling me jeez. jk thanks for the added motivation.

It clearly is an edited screenshot of the default battle system.
You even forgot to get rid of the parts in between the tail and wings.

I will bow down to you if you tell me how you managed to get the bahamut a better resolution than the rest of the screen.

The Bahamut graphics is much better since it was not resize like the other graphics.  The monster to the left is a resized version of it's original, therefore it is a worst graphics than the called in picture of bahamut using a page event during the battle.

-_- So you don't actually understand the concept of screen resolutions?

In that case, why was the screen resolution twice its normal size? it should be 320x240, not 640x480.

=\ RTPs, i don't care, but the mapping skills are pretty average. The battle system, i guess, is made through 2k3. The bahamut.. can't that be resized through battle animation?

FF7 is still better even though FF7 is highly over-rated.

This is awesome. Learn to edit your screens better and then come back.

No, he didn't forget them. They are there just to hide the character completely.

EDIT: And that menu in the previous screenshot's just made in Paint.

Well since I have dial up, I will never be able to download this game. Let me just say that you should not compare this game to FF7. First off, FF7 was made by a large and very experianced team of profesionals. It was labled one of the best games of all times with more then a million copies sold world wide. Plus it had 3D gfx.

Your game on the other hand has 2d gfx, is made by only one person (or maby a few) using a point and click engine with its defult gfx.

Im not saying your game won't be good, but untill you sell over a million copies of you game, don't compare it to FF7...
