Title: SHOTGUN
Post by: Moosetroop11 on December 08, 2004, 05:57:13 PM
I've been making My RPG, Shotgun, for ages, and before that I made Wrath of Sinrad 1 and 2. I just thought I'd make this thread as no-one knows I make decent games. (I don't mean 'Decent' as in I think they're great I just mean Decent as in worth playing.)

Shotgun is based around a planet where there used to be a large force of starships. A huge amazing Starship was made, that was powerful enough to destroy anything. It was more a celestial ship than a normal ship. Anyway, an evil presence broods and threatens to take over this starship(The Starship's called Shotgun). To stop this great weapon from being used against them, the people on the planet seal Shotgun away underground. They Put magical seals over it so that only good people of innocent intentions could have access to it.

Hundreds of years later the people on the planet are less powerful and ignorant of Shotgun. They don't have starships anymore, as they lost a war with another planet, and this other planet has banned them from using starships so that they can't rise up and try and beat them again. Only certain people know about Shotgun, people like the Galtians, a noble race that lives on another planet far away, and the evil people that tried to take Shotgun in the first place.

Now Evil threatens to try and take Shotgun, and the innocent person who will unlock it is Zack, the main hero, and oblivious to all this going on. Three Galtians race to protect this kid before the agents of evil can manipulate him and get Shotgun...

Whew! Pretty long winded, but what do you think?
Title: great story

not bad, but i have a few questions.

1. whats the "evil peoples' motivation to steal this ship, world domination, or to get back the tacos that the bully people on the panet next to them stole?

2.if theres still those magic seals on this ship, then why do they have to worry about the evil force stealing it?

3. if they can design a ship to blow up anything...then why are THEY in captivitey?

coldwinter44: I use the normal RPG2003 battle system for symplicity, but I've added limit breaks.

oooog: 1:The evil people are from another galaxy so that would be universal domination.
2: They didn't have to worry before, but the evil force is gonna trick the main character into breaking the seals for them.
3: Shotgun is ancient, the people of the planet don't know of it's existance anymore.

Any more queries? Want screenshots?

Uh-oh. I've been making this for about a year. Sorry I thought up the same name! I guess most of the people that play mine won't even hear of yours and vice versa, so It won't really matter.

This game seems pretty kewl. got any screenies?

PS: calling your game SHOTGUN is like naming your cat fluffy, or bob. It's universal, it's simple, it's very common.

I've seen one, but only briefly because my throat swelled up and I smashed my head on a desk and woke up in the hospital :/

You were making a game called Wrath of Sinbad?

You know, you're right... neither have I. but doesn't it seem like there's always a janitor named bob? My skewl's janitor's name is bob, in the movies, if there is a janitor, his name is most likely bob...
 anyway, you get my point.

Whew... One, It's Wrath of Sinrad, two, I know no cat's OR Janitors called Bob, three, I've worked on Shotgun alone so far it doesn't seem worth making a partnership BUT I do need a custom chipset so is anyone good at those?

And I'll put some screenshots up soon.

Here's one screenshot: I Know One of the battle chars doesn't go with the others but I feel if you worry too much about tiny details your plot will diminish.

UPDATE

Yes, after two years, I thought you might want to know that I'm still working on this _sweat_

There's been a lot of setbacks, and I started anothjer rpg in the middle, but I've sorted things out now. This has changed, due to KOTOR1 and 2, to be a 'choices' game.

Because the game is so long, It's divided into several parts.

There is a 'password' system- basically, upon finishing a sidequest or whatever, you get a password. At the beginning of each part you are prompted for a password, and depending on which one you enter, you'll get different things like extra money of a special item. For the duration of that part.

Going with the KOTOR inspiration thing, I added a GOOD/EFIL system. Not nearly as exciting as it sounds, your actions affect the GOOD and EFIL variables, and depending on how GOOD or EFIL you were during the part, you get a password. Entering that password next part will give you a bonus befitting your true nature.

Because of a shortage of battle chars, I unfortunately had to do the sprite thing :(. However, this means I get to make my own battlechars easier which is good.

Despite it being 2 years, I haven't done much _sweat_ so don't be surprised if there's not much to look at.

SCREENZORZ (OMFG)

^ Grav city is a huge place, in which the hero gets trapped for some of the game. He must deal with some dodgy characters and the local crime syndicate to escape.

^ The forest I made for the competition grew and grew, and entered my game. The player only goes here if they make a certain choice. In the bottom right you can see a typical GOOD/EFIL decision.

Here you can see the password entry system. It's really just an edited enter name thing.

And here's an epic battle against an efil mushroom!

I think its looking pretty good :) I'm loving the coca cola sign, but if it's not on earth, then I kinda doubt they would have coca cola, then again, they wouldn't be speaking english either  :eyes:

I like the screens for the most part. I think its better to go with the sprite sized battle characters rather then having the normal sized battle characters that were out of style with eachother. :)

I jsut got an idea for the password thing, you could get a faceset of like, a control panel with like the number pad, that'd make it look more interesting.
